- It's been almost a year since I built a plastic hammock. Over the winter, it fell into disrepair and now is the time to do something more interesting and also useless in his place. But very exciting.

It might function like a Faraday cage. If so, the lightning would travel along the outside skin of the aluminum and then arc to the ground. She would be safe for the first lightning strike. That being said, it would either be obliterated or instantly turned molten.
Nothing says I love nature more than using 10 massive rolls of clingwrap to make a tent you'll use once.

We live in a closed system. Nothing is lost or gained save energy, and since the sun isn't going out any time soon, I don't think you need worried. Over time "waste" is simply recycled.
When I go camping I always carry 300 to 400 rolls of aluminum foil, doesn't everybody?

Do you have any idea how much energy it takes to make aluminium foil? I'll let you look it up but let's just say it's a lot. The carbon footprint for this exercise is MASSIVE. Why not try making a tree shelter from tree parts?

I was making the point that the energy usage to manufacture aluminium foil is extremely high (ton for ton, compared to processing other metal products such as steel girders) & as such its carbon footprint is right up there at the top of the chart. In most cases it becomes a single use product with a service life of just a few hours before it goes in the trash. An 'expensive' product in every sense.

@@thecreaturescorner539 I'm afraid you are spectacularly missing the point. I never said that the process of melting aluminium causes carbon dioxide to be released from the molten material. I said that the amount of energy needed to produce aluminium foil was very high.
It is the energy that has the carbon footprint, my friend.
I presume that when you melted some aluminium in your home you didn't do it with the power of your mind? Probably used a heat source of some kind? Probably a hydrocarbon based heat source?
Look at rolling mills & consider how much work energy is needed to reduce a billet from 24" thickness to 1/64th" thickness - that's a lot more energy that it took to form the billet in the first place.
This creates the conclusion that aluminium foil is an expensive product to manufacture as it's energy cost is many times higher than it's material cost.
Edit: On reflection, more like 1/128" thickness

True, what are you going to do with it once you’re done? Can’t disassemble and reassemble it elsewhere. And it won’t take long for it to start flaking off (and what repair it with even more foil?) and littering everywhere. And if you do take it with you (home) when you’re done, what are you going to do with it? Toss it?

Just showed this to my son and suggested that this also could be used as an outdoor smoker for hunters curing their catch for the winter. Have to fix the floor a bit but I think it would be perfect for multiple meats to get one (at least started) at once away from home.

I have seen hundreds of videos of people making their own version of the plastic wrap shelter. You have the honor of making the ONLY aluminum foil shelter I have ever seen. I loved it!
One of the most interesting things I thought of with this is that aluminum is conductive and trees and plants do have a central nervous system so the balls the tree the occupant and the forest/ fungal networks/ ground are all nervous systematically "integrated"
