So his ability manifested as a bunch of hands all over his body holding him so he would never feel alone. Really really sad when you think about it. Most demons forget who they were when they were humans, only having their past lives coming back to them as they are dying. Just something to keep in mind!

His mouth is shaped like that because that's how you blow fire into an oven or forge. With time, people also thought the mask looked funny and associated it to comedy. That's why Tanjiro calls it "clown mask".

The characters are using actual Japanese language and wearing traditional based Japanese outfits of the era. It’s ok to find them intriguing and surprising but it’ll be a little more respectful to the culture not to actually laugh at them.
