    Guys Just open your windows sound mixer, and you will notice that this video has no sound at all. It clearly shows that the volume never exceeds 0db. If there was a sound that we couldn't hear, windows should still be able to pick the sound up and graphically show it in the volume control tab. ;)

      also, it 480p - anyway all youtube videos get compressed again by youtube and lose some of the sounds

      BoostedChimp69 Minsung The audio is less than a second long, it's just a quick chirp right at the beginning and then 29.99 seconds of silence. I checked audio levels on my computer, had my headphones at full blast with an amp, and everything, there's nothing beyond that first millisecond

    I hooked it up to an oscilloscope - NOTHING. This is an EMPTY audio file - to fool you. Chances are, however, that your speakers wouldn't reproduce it, and even if they *did*, you'd not have heard it. But BOO to the poster of this.
    :-)
    I used to be able to (when I was 22) hear alarm systems - they were at 18,400. They made me so nauseous that I had to walk out of the given store. Also, I could always hear a television (CRT) - at 17,200.
    Now, nearing age 60, I can "only" hear 14,000. I always wear ear plugs when out in loud situations (even amusement parks), and I highly recommend it!

    • @BITBOARD_DEV
      @BITBOARD_DEV Před 6 lety +1

      PyroSax thanks for actually checking this, but the main problem isn't the up-loaders file, CZcams REALLY likes to compress the crap out of the audio and most tones above 17 Khz get mixed with different tones and the whole thing either doesn't play or it's not a true 18 khz sound.

    Yay I can hear it. Thanks to you I now Know that I cannot hear 19000 or 20000 but I can 18,000 with the volume up and on excellent quality. I could not hear it with the low quality settings.
    But this is exciting to me because the last time I did this it was on a different soundcard (same headphones) and I couldn't hear past 15,000. I'm actually relieved my hearing is not as bad as I thought. I'm 30 by the way. So 30 years old still hearing 18000. I've heard that's decent. but it varies.

    Windows sound mixer reports that there's no sound at all above ~17.2k. That must be where CZcams cuts it off, so if you're hearing up to 17k+, you should try out other tests around internet.

      ***** I don't know what to tell you. I really do have a means by which to determine if there is a presence of any sound at all attached to video playback and so far as this video is concerned all signs point to no.
      My audio system certainly can reproduce frequencies in excess of 18khz and nother that sound or any other is attached to this file. whether it's being filtered out via youtube's data compression or not I don't know.

    • @Sid-sh4xn
      @Sid-sh4xn Před 9 lety

      Brendan Peery as u mentioned the meter it showed nothing on my meter too but in practicality i could hear and the reason ur not able to hear is cause ur too old i guess or impaired hearing (no offence) u should research on this thing.People of a specific age only can hear this for example this frequency can be heard by people below 30 or something.For me i cant hear 19khz but this freq i can because i am 22

    • @brendanpeery2655
      @brendanpeery2655 Před 9 lety +1

      Offering that you hear something when your computer is telling you there is nothing has me suspicious about your noise floor and line level noise. If you hear a hiss or a buzz and interpret that as the 18khz sound file then you are hearing something I don't hear.

    • @ehcmier
      @ehcmier Před 9 lety +1

      Brendan Peery I played it through a pitch-shifter, halving the frequency to 9,000hz, and yowch, there's a definite tone. I can't hear the 18,000hz tone, but I can feel the pressure of it. Looking at the soundwave itself, it's not a sine-wave, nor is it even. It's only a third of the full possible amplitude/volume.

  • @inductor1.77
    @inductor1.77 Před 9 lety +2

    I have a mac. I couldn't hear anything at all at first with max volume. After plugging in my headphones I can guarantee you there is an obvious tone that stops when you pause the video. I am also 28 years old but have always had pretty sensitive hearing.

  • @GilesyBoyMeOldMate
    @GilesyBoyMeOldMate Před 6 lety

    You need to be sure that your device and earphones/speakers can transmit at this frequency. Most phones cut out about 10kHz. The iPhones we tried cut out about 9kHZ. Try it on your laptop with a decent pair of headphones but turn the volume down to avoid damage to hearing.

  • @kdavis45
    @kdavis45 Před 10 lety

    First, unless you are under 20 and probably under 10 and have the volume up really really loud, you will most likely NOT hear a clean 18 KHz sine wave. If you have bad speakers or poor audio amplifier what you might hear is a lower harmonic.
    Second, CZcams recently switched out its transcoder and retranscoded all videos and while this and many other hearing videos use to work fine at high frequencies, the new transcoder has effectively created a low pass audio filter which pretty much takes anything above 16 KHz out even at HD resolution. This is not the fault of whomever put this video on here. CD quality (44.1 KHz sample rate) audio SHOULD allow frequencies up to half the sample rate or 22050 Hz. I don't believe, with this new transcoding process, there is anyway to get true CD quality audio on a youtube video anymore.
    However, no one is being scammed here. At least on purpose.
    And no this is not my video nor are any of the other hearing test videos.

      darayneman Yea dude thats Tinnitus. Mine started at 20 and I'm 25 now and it will get worse if you listen to loud things. Go see an audiologist. Its totally T just a low pitch case. Seriously protect your ears so it doesn't get worse. The worst kinds are horrible and then sudden bursts ugh. Protect what you have! Also don't trust fracking reddit with medical advice lol. But also if it changes pitch when you bite down it might be TMJ induced T so I really recommend an appointment with a good ENT doctor. Though most people ignore going to the doctor now a days... Also no mercury fillings and keep your teeth healthy its all connected. I have seen many doctors for this so I know a bit but its hard to help people who haven't seen a good ENT doctor or orthodontist yet.

    Really???? I just tested this with a meter to be sure but I already knew that even if you did submit a video with 18 KHz in it, the youtube transcoding software effectively eliminates anything above 16 Khz. So I don't know what you people think you are hearing but it aint 18 KHz. My meter reads a slight spike at 11758 Hz (which would be annoying to some ears). No 18 KHz here.

      No I know what "speaker noise" sounds like and it definitely wasnt sound from the speakers being used.

    • @miketaylor6214
      @miketaylor6214 Před 9 lety

      Speakers DO have a "quiet" sound
      And they pretty much sound the same (the sound file and quiet speakers) but you heard the noise. As did i.

    All these people saying it's obviously an empty file because their windows computers can't pick it up, for real? I can hear it, so obviously some people can hear better than a computer can. I am using a mac though, so I have the upper hand to begin with. I'm also 18. But, I'm also a musician who plays loud and doesn't use ear plugs, so I shouldn't hear this, it's pretty crazy, even I'm surprised.

    • @Davidn1
      @Davidn1 Před 9 lety +3

      It has nothing to do with the fact you have a mac.

    • @patrikrusinko
      @patrikrusinko Před 9 lety +1

      Actually, MAC hardware could be way better than other computer's HW. For example, my PC doesn't play some of the 16k videos for sure, but some people do hear it. However, other videos play 17k with no problem. IDK what exactly is going on. I should get a software and try a legit high pitched tone :c
