This is what the past generation is like always respect or automatic respect seniors there was seniority in the industry especially if the senior is popular or path way for future generation as they feel is bringing pride and honor to the people of Hong Kong a very different perspective from the new generation. You must know this is Tony we talking about who didn't shy and told Maggie Cheung since day 1 that she can't act. Look down on her. They overcome it and have made amends and films a couple more films after.

This is different from all the other Marvel interviews. He was not trying to sell the movie or compliment everyone and everything. @@lq9734 I think what SamtonPh was referring to is that it is nice and important that HK artist and HK people preserve the Cantonese Dialect by speaking more Cantonese during interviews. In case you are not aware, but the Chinese government are enforcing that the main language is mandarin and that teachers must teach and speak mandarin at school. This has been enforced in China already even in the Canton province, and they want to enforce this to HK as well. by doing that Cantonese speaking are being decreased along the years in China already. Judging at this at this rate , As years goes by, In future, China will probably be only left half of what you say , less than 30 millions canton speakers and then gets lesser and lesser Cantonese speaking peoples in China.

Ok, about his depiction of Wenwu; no one has mentioned it anywhere, but if you want to see him at his best, go to the scene when he was in his study reminiscing about his family when his henchman came to tell him that they were ready to move out. Tony Leung is amazing & he was born to play WenWu. Shang-Chi was amazing & WenWu had so much complexity & depth. Like he said in the interview there was a lot of sentimentality & humanity to WenWu. He wasn’t some formulaic or generic “villain.” He was driven by power as he was enabled by the Ten Rings but gave it all up for love & family. The tragedy was he lost it all & had to go back to the only other thing he had known his whole life, using the Ten Rings. He was now driven by grief & wanted to reunite the family. It was such a good story & Tony played him amazingly.
When he saves Shang-Chi’s life but is grabbed by the Dweller & unable to use his arms, he loses his soul. I nearly cried. Despite WenWu’s flaws, he is a character you like. Actually a character you love. He is the perfect anti-hero. Shang-Chi ended up being one of Marvel’s best movies & WenWu is one of the best “villains” though it is flawed & shortsighted characterizing him as such.

    EDIT 24/10
I FINALLY WATCHED IT! IN CINEMAS! Wenwu was, as described, nowhere near a regular villain, and Tony brought so much nuance to the role! What do you mean I'm getting drawn into MCU--
02/10: Here's one of the first TV dramas starring a 21 year old Tony (and subtitled by the poster)! czcams.com/video/UIVQBPRdq8c/video.html
17/09 - 08:37 - Revised subtitles: "Ooh, a villain, we've got The Joker here, this will be fun!" -- thanks Schweppes for clarifying! It adds a lot more to Tony's view of the role having this line corrected. Have revised in the soft subtitles (turn on CC to view).
    ***
Hello! Shoutout to the folks who originally posted this in subtle cantonese traits -- I'm glad the subs have helped with #learncanto! As an Aussie with Chinese heritage I hope to keep a working knowledge of Canto in the years to come.
This is my first (hobby) translation project :) It's also my first attempt at using Aegisub to time subtitles, having input them natively on CZcams for my previous transcription projects, but I need to tweak and play with Handbrake a bit more when exporting the video for clearer subs even with standard definition video.
Some phrases don't have a 1:1 translation (like 文藝片, even when Tony himself loosely translates it as "drama") - this was what made the exercise so fun :)
I haven't watched MCU films (Spiderman: Into the Spider-verse just barely counts) but I'm keen given Tony's in it! haha
