- Nestled among them stands a tiny turquoise house, a unique anomaly in this picturesque landscape, on the windswept shores of the Faroe Islands, where the quaint houses of the historic Tørnshaven district tell tales of a bygone era.

STORY
Once the abode of Michael Thompson, a solitary fisherman who dedicated his life to the sea, this house holds the echoes of a simple yet meaningful existence. Rarely interacting with the townspeople, Michael returned each winter to his humble abode, leaving a lasting imprint on the coastal town.
Discover the story of Michael, who lived a long and solitary life until the age of 96. Found on his boat near Nororagato, where he spent his final days, his house now stands empty, a silent tribute to a man who embraced a life of self-reliance and determination.
Michael's craftsmanship is evident in every detail of the house, built with local materials like turf, stone, and wood. Thick, sturdy walls protect against the harsh Faroese winters, while a thatched grass roof provides natural insulation, showcasing a harmonious relationship with nature.
Today, Michael's house serves as a poignant relic, transporting us to a time when simplicity and connection with nature were paramount. Join us on this unique adventure to one of the world's most remote corners as we uncover the untold story of Michael Thompson and the tiny turquoise house that stands as a testament to his legacy.

Every fisherman I grew up with hoped when their time came to pass away on their boat. This man met his perfect ending.
Old man and the sea. ❤
Bless him. 96 is a great accomplishment. It feels like an older person's home. Such a cool home
If those walls could talk. What a guy! 96yo! 😢 That's just heartbreaking to me he died alone, but don't we all. Great video guys! Beautiful story.
I'M 46 I DON'T HAVE NO ONE CHICKS ON ME. OR COME BUY EXCEPT THE BUG GUY COMES BUY TO SPRAY FOR BUG 🐛. IF I PASS AWAY 2 THANGS HAPPENED IS SMILL OR RENT HAS NOT BEEN PAYD
Most seafarers are loners. Every heard that song "Brandy"
@@randomvintagefilm273.....
Yes they are.
And I love that song.
He clearly collected teapots and books, loved music, and fished. What a full and marvelous life he must have lived.
The Faroe Islands are fascinating! Hugs from the warm US state of Georgia.
Hello, Lesley! It's really interesting to find out about the people's life on this island ! A special place indeed with great stories ! Thank you for sharing !
❤
An interesting little explore. I knew as soon as you walked in he was like me. No cleaning lady nor wife in his life. He'd lived a simple, but fruitful life actually thriving well. I too wish to live in a place and community like that, but can't for it's not my home. I saw a video recently where Faroe Islands had China build a new bridge for them so they don't have to drive nor use boats as much saving time. They're really rich today and very safe. I'd love to have been from a nice place with a solid family and community. That is the dream we can't have nor achieve unless one is born into such scenario. They don't have to worry about war, homelessness, and poverty for sure.
This is what you guys showed me with this video: make room for people in your home. Everything cannot be a work space. Or one day you will be surrounded with nothing but projects, and you may go out to sea and die alone.😶🌫️
again without fail leslie and danny spin an illustrious tale and make majik happen even in a tiny home. always a pleasure to follow these 2 on their travels.
I love the drone shots … all the colors!! what a beautiful area!! ❤
Im amazed at how close together these houses are. Wow
I noticed that too, made me think that people have a lot of respect for each other and they don't need the distance of space to have privacy. When I visited Rotterdam in Amsterdam, most people didn't close the curtains on the front windows of their home. I asked someone why and they said 'I have nothing to hide and why would I look into another person's home?'
@@derekmahon1652nowadays though you can not live thinking like that . Living life is like driving a car you have to assess the danger miles ahead of you . Precautions it’s important .
Amazing life ! I bet he was truly happy . ❤ 96 !
Books give a great insight into people's interests. It will be a loss when one day people no longer keep bookshelves of books, as we won't have any idea what people liked to read and learn.
I hope the good Lord was there on the waves when he passed to take him home. He died doing what he lived for. ❤
Interesting neighborhood. They don't have any yards. Their yards are on top of their houses. 👀
Hey Leslie and Danny, I've missed you guys. Love, love your show ❤
You didn’t go into the basement which is where the fireplace to warm the house would probably have been. Thoroughly enjoyed this one. Much love from Australia
Hello Lesley and Danny! Interesting history of the owner of the house. Very tiny but full of item's and memories. Sad the men died alone in the sea. I am hope the new owner keep some item's and donated the other's to people needs. ❤The panoramic views are amazing 👏 😊🤗👌👍
How cool. What a beautiful area. Bless this little man who lived in existence of fishing. This was not an easy life. To live 96 years it’s just amazing. Thank you for documenting this. Very interesting.
Faroe Islands!! Had to google that one Lesley! What a neat place. Sad he died alone at sea, but you know, he was doing what he loved and lived how he wanted to!! But my goodness that is a tiny place.!! Needs lots of work inside and out but they want how many dollars??
Real estate in the Faroe Islands is extremely expensive.
A house of that size costs around 500.000 Euro in Tórshavn, but because of the location of that house, central part of Tórshavn, near the old part of the city, Reyni, the price could easily be double that, despite one had to invest the same amount of more to update/modernize the house to current standards
Everything is super expensive on the islands
@@teldupostar Not worth it
That little Grundig is an open reel tape recorder, it doesn't take cassettes.
Would be neat if you could go see his other house and boat, wouldn't it?
The Faroe Islands were beautiful. Visited about a decade ago.
I love this old house 🏚. It is so cozy. Thanks for sharing this story. Have safe travels ❤ 🙏 ❤
Kisses from São Paulo, Brazil.
Sorry I will miss it! I will watch it later today. It looks amazing 😍🎉
Hi Lesley and Danny! Such a sad tragedy. Thank you for exploring. Stay safe 🙏
Hey there, dear Lesley that looks somehow interesting. I am already waiting with excitement, what you are going to show us about that abandoned location. - Take care, and stay safe, my friend!
Peace, many hugs and very snowy greetings from now freezing cold Switzerland.
Omg that's a lot of money for such a small house with no yard and so run down but its expensive to live everywhere now. Beautiful island!!
Wow very beautiful and rustic

Love the little 2 story house & Michael Thompson`s Life he Loved & Died Fishing on his boat & lived to be 96 Yrs Old!!🤩
It will be Great IF the little House & all his Memories are Saved & Bought...Hopefully his books to a Museum!!
Thanks Lesley & Danny for this Truly Remarkable Story of Michael Thompson & His Little House!!❤
Take Care & stay safe on Your Next Journey, have a Wonderful Day & Evening!! ❤ Love Barb from Central Illinois USA❣
I live in New Zealand, we have corrugated iron on our roofs. The grass idea would be good though.
Very interesting home & explore. It's enjoyable to see how people in faraway remote areas live. 😊👍
I had a fisherman neighbor who spent weeks at sea on an old boat & this house reminds me of his boat cabin - cramped, dark, low ceilings & a bit messy. By comparison, though, this home is spacious compared to a boat cabin. I'm glad he died where he seemed to love most.
In the future , you said they are going to restore this house. They are going to preserve his whole life in remembrance.
Thanks guys.❤
The books suggest an intellectual mind, philosophy, math, Homer, and any admirer of Bertrand Russell is someone I would like to have met. You found a tape recorder, there might be some audio recordings somewhere.
Me in Denmark wanting to go there just to see the island, but to be honest your videos are always very therapeutic
What a great video and cool story! Thanks for sharing

Nice video 👍🏼👍🏼 thank you
Hi waiting as always to see where you’ve been
There are quite a few of these old dilapidated houses spread around the islands. I think you might have found one of the more interesting ones with some rich history.
Very cool vid.
Hello Leslie and Danny I have missed your show so much , it is very sad story ❤❤ but the house is so nice 🎉🎉 thank you so much for sharing and love your show so much .🎉🎉
Beautiful
I hope you also take notice of the books, their titles, dates etc. It shows a lot of personality of the owner.
Thank you for bringing all these wonderful places to us.
If I may ask, what happened to last week's episode on the school in America? I was half way through then it was gone?😮
Keep up with the good work 😊
The same thing happened to my sister! She messaged me when it happened and she said what the heck is going on??!! lol I don't know what happened, but I suspect it may have been because of the biohazardous materials that were left behind. I'm guessing someone is in a bit of trouble for not taking the proper steps of disposal. But I don't really know, that's just me making a guess.
Thanks that was awesome house
Great!

Beautiful historical home, love the look of the island, the house is unique and enough room for one person, look like this person love children stories book, it’s great way to keep his harts young, he probably loved to read a lot when he at the sea that why he had a lot of collection of books, very interesting to discover someone journey and unique story life, thank you for sharing.
Thanks!
We are not danish. We are 1300 kilometers away from Denmark. We speak Faroese. Not danish. We CAN speak danish, but it’s not our first language. The books you thought were in danish were not. They were in Faroese.
It’s not an island, but islands(plural). 18 islands.
It IS a country. We have our own parliament and make our own policies. Our parliament ‘lögtingið’, is the oldest parliament in the world as it was formed in the start of the 800s during the viking age.
The Faroe Islands are however within the danish kingdom, as we share a monarch. Denmark only controls military and airspace.
Faroese is a very special language as it is very close to Old Norse, because of the isolation of these islands.
Just wanted to clear those things up! Very interesting video!
ps: your pronounciation of Tórshavn(Thor’s Harbour) and Norðragøtu were terrible 😂
Amazing lesson for all who have no clue. Thanks for sharing this information .
Beautiful video!! I loved those colorful houses! I don't think I could live somewhere without trees, though.😢
I have the cream and sugar houses that match the house teapot! They were given to me by my late 100 years young friend😊
Adorei essa casa do Senhor Thompson ammo vocês
Nice work keep it up 🙏🏻✊🏻
He had no need for things we could not do without. I hope he had a good life. We will never know.
Maybe the childrens books are things that he delivered to the less fortunate children of the places he went for his fishing.
What an interesting place. And beautiful as well. Even tho ive nrver heard of these islands it would be wonderful to see them. I love what you do. Its so amazing.
❤Cute little house, ❤
That tape player is a reel to reel. Before cassets.
Muito lindo pôr dentro uma relíquia

YES hello good evening my friends Bro fo Decay very good friend thankyou
What you showed us was not a tea cup but actually a tea pot
Me Too 😮❤but I'll watch,For SURE Tonight !😅 Hi Brandon 😻😘💋
Maybe people should buy on the shetland islands first property i spotted on-line was £295,000 you got a stone built house,a wooden building that could cheaply made into a house or b&b a massive agricultural building oh and 120 acres of land, this is of course if the faroe islands is too expensive or you're not Danish not bad for £295,000 and you have muness castle virtually in your back garden its at the end of the lane where the croft is....
Nice house.
Good evening 🙏👍👌✋👌💐🤔
If he had married and had children when he was in his 20's, his children would be in their mid to late 70's! Grandchildren would be in their 40's. It is possible that he married young, possibly lost his wife early. Children moved away to have a better life. I think that there is possibly very few people in that town left who were young when this man was young. It is probable that the towns people who saw him, only saw him after he was left alone by his wife dying and children moving away in the 1970's.
❤تحياتي من مصر 🇪🇬🇪🇬🇪🇬🌹
I loved this one. It's hard to imagine living in that small. How do the bigger families do it.
Love the work you and Danny do. Blessings and ❤ from Teena, Lafayette, Indiana. Home of Purdue University.
