    i personally prefer labeling myself, but i totally see where you're coming from and you're right, labels are not necessary at all. it's all just a matter of preferences. loved this video

    Me saying to someone "I'm Jackie" when they want to get to know me isn't going to help them. Saying "Yeah, I'm gay, but more importantly my name is Jackie and my sexuality isn't everything" works better. Gay is a trait/quality just like "athletic" "tall" "artistic" "introverted". These are all labels that help people understand who you are. We are human. Yes, we use language and dialogue to relate. If you take away labels you take away individuality.

    This is good Lex, i've basically always felt the same too it sucks when we think we have to label ourselves just so we have a straightforward answer for when people ask. Good thoughts tho, hopefully other people can stop being so obsessed w labels

    You just explained my situation on point ..every single thing I'm feeling and I thank you soo very much just because you posted this video. I'm beginning to accept myself for who I am simply because it's me and not a label. So thank you Lexie... you're my inspiration❤❤❤

    Just to respectfully give you my opinion, labels are necessary. So are stereotypes. The brain works in categories, everything we know goes into a category- musical instruments, parents, children, animals, colors, materials, etc. That is how we use language to differentiate between everything we know in our lives. It is a great idea to want everyone to be viewed as an equal, however taking away given names to certain things is not going to solve that. Labels allow us to come together with people who are similar to us. They allow us to understand who exactly we are. They allow us to feel like we fit somewhere. There is nothing wrong with using words. Gay, straight, bisexual, and transgender are words people use to turn their thoughts into reality. If no one was labeled gay, if rainbow didn't represent LGBTQ+, we would have no way of expressing ourselves or connecting to people we had similarities with. Same with race, there's nothing wrong with using the words white, black, Hispanic, etc... they just categorize us. We can learn to be proud of being gay or straight without having to eliminate them. These are just words. You can be "gay" and be creative. These words put no boundary on how you live your life, if anything they help you. If you want to change at some point, you need the labels. If no one knows your sexual identity or sexual orientation, and you decide to change one day, you can say "yes I am straight now! i figured it out!" because without language and NAMES for things, what would you say when someone asked you if you liked girls anymore? you wouldn't reply with "oh im (my name)" in a real life scenario. That doesn't make sense or answer the question. Stereotypes allow us to view certain people as a certain way, and they shouldn't have such a negative connotation. Without stereotypes there would be no culture, nothing to be proud of or confident in. There are good stereotypes, and if there wasn't people couldn't connect what they were feeling to where they really fit in. Categories are how the human brain works, and your idea and philosophy are wonderful- but language is real and conformity and everyone just being called "human", is not how this world works.

    I completely agree with you, and I’ve had conversations with people about this. I don’t like stereotypes because I’m pretty much getting stereotypes by my family. I love this video though.

    so i totally like 100% agree on the thoughts you have and how you think about labels and stuff but now i wonder what i should tell my friends and family because for them it would be pretty weird i guess if i suddenly came home with a girlfriend or tell my friends that i have a crush on that girl... it would be so awesome if everybody could just be themselves and not have to use any labels to put themselves into but i don't think that society has reached that point yet :| so do you have an idea what i could tell my parents and family without using labels too much?

    Honestly, this helped ALOT because ive always thought that i needed a label to be able to say that im one specific thing. But now, i dont think i necessarily need them because we are all indeed, human. This inspired me so much! Hope you had a great day! ❤

  • @retour2flamme
    @retour2flamme Před 7 lety +3

    There are labels because we are all differents and it's just because all that happened in the past and everything, now we have to identify to someone or to a group of people to feel more confident, if you're feeling already then it's okay but I mean not everyone is attracted to girls or boys or trans and it's okay and we have to accept those differences and similarities, but labels are not just a way to discriminate, it's a way to be with people with similiarities between them and you, you can't deny the fact that some people like "star wars" and some don't. I understand the fact that it's a way to be free and to be really who you are and I agree with that, I totally prefer to say " I'm in love with this person" than " I'm gay or bi" but you can't deny the fact that you are attracted to girls. It's just that the way you said it was kinda like " I don't accept that I could like girls". But I still understand that you wanted to say just that you don't want to put labels on everyone.

    I personally dont like labels but if im getting to know someone and they ask i simply say well i dont really do labels but if i had to use one then i would say im gay. But I completely agree with you when it comes to change because everyone does and being put under a stereotype or label makes things complicated because you are gonna want to change and when you do you shouldnt have to explain which label or category you fall under. If that makes any sense lol.

    I agree with what you said, but it's sort of human nature to try and stick things into boxes. The time you're born, you are put into a box. You're male / female, you've got a certain nationality, are probably raised with a certain religious believe, technically, even your family name is a label. People can't figure things out if there's no label and things are left out in the open.
