Unreleased footage of Vaughn Benjamin and the Midnite Band with an awesome performance at Reggae on the River 2004. See more Midnite videos here --@VirginIslandsVideo
I was 13 years old in 2004 when this Band was introduced to me, my father played it. The first song I heard was "Jubilees of Zion". I had been listening to a lot of 70's and early 80s Roots reggae at the time as first generation American raised in a Jamaican household in Brooklyn. The newer reggae coming out of Jamaica at the time didn't resonate as its pass (no disrespect). When my father put on Midnite I assumed it was old, because it was so deeply rooted, he then said "no this is happening now". From that moment my life changed, Vaughn's lyrics played a major role in my cultivation, my research and my own musical expression and journey through Rastafari. Devastated that he is no long with us in flesh but his work lives on and as he said "not fearing the inevitability of death" - The eyes are the light. So grateful. To be connected to this music as a human being his to be a seeker of more, feeler of more. Give thanks, love to everyone.
Blessed brother. You are a real just like me, this man music of sounds of beats made me starting flowing and I was so ready to meet of see this man once I get the time in festival here in Europe I missed one and guess what then I saw some notification of reggaeville THAT my teacher was gone 😓 i cried even today and yesterday I listened so many of his tune. He was a good one. The good ones never last longer in life #akae the beka the law of

I and my old company made this video. It’s great to see this which I live directed at the time on a Panasonic MX-50 switcher. I don’t think we even had real communications with the camera ops that year. We were using some jerry rigged motorcycle intercoms that didn’t really work as I remember. None the less it’s great to see this footage again. I probably have the masters in the archives somewhere.❤
Vaughn Benjamin took reggae to another level but the reggae community did not appreciate are acknowledge him because he wasn't a JAMAICAN, it was reggae's lost because he had surpassed them all
Love how Ronny’s backing vocals are right there with Vaughn syllable for syllable. Which is amazing when you consider that live performances are not scripted. The two are truly in tune with one another on stage
