- Two days of powder, early ups and beers at the Snorting Elk Cellar is the short story of our trip to Crystal Mountain. Exploring the resort's terrain with pro skier Drew Tabke and freeski coach Wayne Grevey is the long side of things. In episode two of our trip around the Pacific Northwest, we take a wrong turn, find out Crystal is empty most of the time and fall in love with terrain we didn't even know was there.
Crystal Mountain is located on the border of Mt. Rainier National Park, and views from the summit include Mount Rainier, the 14,400-foot volcano. Nearly half of Crystal's terrain is "inbounds backcountry," meaning about a 1,000 acres normally out-of-bounds is opened by the ski patrol when conditions are right. The lifts don't operate in this area, but you access it from the top of inbounds lifts. Woods, chutes, and deep bowls challenge your inner-balance mechanisms and you eventually arrive at the Crystal access road where regular shuttles await to take you back to the base area. Crystal Mountain is popular with Seattle skiers and riders because of its comprehensive terrain, but you hear stories of Canadian ski hill employees taking their vacations at Crystal.

Beautiful snowporn... thanks!
I’m a second year Lifty here! Head to Green Valley (Chair 3) and say hi before we close, April 22. If not, see you all in 2018-2019. And remember, if you’re not riding hard, you’re not riding at all!
1:52 "our first taste of crystal." I had no idea they gave you meth on the gondolas
I've been there it's amazing!
Awhat??? No chair 6??? Wow, they missed what that mountain really has to offer.
J V yes they did
My thoughts exactly. The gnarliest lines in that whole area are accessed via 6. Warren miller wannabes anyway.
100% agree! Worked there a couple years, both seasons, and lift 6 is wicked!!!
Least they got up the mountain though, whole place is fantastic.
@@raechelgood4881 Its loaded with stashes all over! Hope you're still able to make it up there!
Thanks! We took an small RC heli with us. Check out the episode today at Stevens Pass where we used it while skiing.
OnTheSnow hey guys could you please tell me the name of the song at 3:00?
Great video, love the skiing but I love your road trip and taking the wrong turn, I would do that.
Nicely done video.
One of the best clips I've seen for Crystal, I'm stoked for this season 2013-14. Bring it on....
how was it?
Awesome episode. Stoked to see Stevens!
great job again guys
nice work guys. :)
since you went the wrong way, you should have went for the hidden gem that is White Pass.
sbeutler Yup they were 20 mins away from White Pass lol
they don't know about white pass? Shhhhhh!
No they were not. In the winter Chinook Pass is closed so you have to go around Rainier, it adds on 3 hours from Seattle.
speedyredfish Yes they were. If you keep going up Hwy 12 for 20 mins from where they turned around they would have ended up at White Pass
sbeutler oh, i was confused your right
I have the hardest snoner ever. Makes me want to move from Boise to WA immediately.
My dad loves crystal mountain
Chinook pass is always closed during winter
LOL OUCH AT THE BEGINNING

I still go there I live really close
I apologize, do not know why it showing those symbols. I was not using bad langue, just a hyphen.

Could a beginner snowboarder get by here ? Or is it more for experts
There's a good mix of beginner terrain! Give the resort a call for details.

PNW is the place to be!
Don't lie us!
Damn it! I just started skiing, and I decided crystal mountain would be a good place to go; But global warming got to the mountain before I could get there. The snow didn't even reach the base camp, and I kept getting caught in muddy areas.
+multimagictutorials the mountain opened 6 days ago, of course there is not going to be snow yet.
Living for Now I meant last year.
On a side note, HOLY SHIIT REALLY?! IT DID?! I'M ON THIS!
+multimagictutorials yeah. its pretty sweet.
It's more to el niño than global warming although climate change does have a little impact. Hopefully we'll get a La Niña Storm soon.
Thomas Blans hopefully!
Now it’s a big cooperate fest
yes, everyplace is good sometimes -- I have not yet been there, but I guess if I am going to "travel" (as in longer than just a day trip and back), I would go east to get less stormy conditions and lighter snow
Where’s the girls.
I snowboard
Skiers fuckin blow
Geez...stop censoring every dirty word! :/ Nice shots though...
