      Thanks for watching :) I probably wont, because it doesn't need much of an explanation and it honestly would end up being some kind of ego thing... and i don't need to explain or prove anything because to me being vegan is the truth. and i don't feel the need to justify my truth unless it wasn't clear. there's a bunch of "why i'm still vegan" videos for people who want to find more reasons though and i'm sure they're still super helpful!!

    • @Rinaa11214
      @Rinaa11214 Před 5 lety

      Thats okay!! I didn’t ask because I want reasons as to why I should go vegan (I’ve been vegan for 3yrs and I don’t plan on going back lol) its just a thing a lot of vegan youtubers are doing to combat the “why im not longer vegan” videos. But if it doesn’t seem right to you then you don’t have to! that’s completely okay, I understand :)

  • @CassieTranthesuperfitbabe
    @CassieTranthesuperfitbabe Před 5 lety +11

    I genuinely think a lot of these former vegans haven't focused on a root cause like you said, OR followed an imbalanced vegan diet for far too long. What I have a problem with is when these former vegans claim to believe in the ethics of veganism, but as soon as they ditch the label, they become full-blown fast food mukbangers or they start buying non-food products with animal derivatives and become sponsored by these companies that use animal cruelty. I understand if they make a living off of social media, but they can easily find a niche that isn't health or diet related.
    As for the root causes, I find that some people will focus a bit too much of what's going on inside the body rather than the outside. If they're not happy, it may not necessary be due to a "lack of this and that" in their diets. A lot of these vegan CZcamsrs weren't in very good living situations with unstable jobs or toxic relationships. It's okay to take some time off social media to find what works best, even if that means taking time off a plant-based diet, but you REALLY need to be trying and not half-assing anything. After all, veganism is working so well for many people. And it's because they understand that veganism isn't their whole world, especially with food, and they know how to balance out the rest of their life to be happy.

    I had eating disorders for 3 years and I went vegan but it was still sick and so my eating disorders continue for 1 year. So I decided to stop being vegan until my mental and physical health will be better (but I was still vegetarian ) and I actually I think this is the best choice that I have done for my health. :)

    • @misspullip8327
      @misspullip8327 Před 5 lety +1

      @Cindy Wallis yes of course but my main problem was that being vegan was an "excuse" for me to not eat. I was restricting myself and I was constantly stressed when I had to eat outside. So now I am like 80% vegan : at home I eat what I want and I am now able to adapt myself at any situation

      I had a same issue for over 12 years. One of my root cause is overthinking about eating. I had to stop it. So I opened all source of edible thing for the head stop thinking. Perfectionism was killing me. Now I feel what is good or bad by the experience not by the thinking and determination. Eating must be natural. It shouldn't be a willpower game. It's waste of life.

      Aurelien B I only would eat less than 1/4 a cup of beans at a time. I am well aware that these foods are not solving my problems- it’s what they are replacing which is the excess fiber I am getting in my diet that causes my stomach distress, bloat & an inability to stand up as a result. Hope you can understand where I’m coming from, but if not that’s ok. I have to put my health first.

    • @AlexaDaFonte
      @AlexaDaFonte Před 5 lety +2

      Aurelien B thanks for your input but I actually have been a vegetarian for 10 years now and I have eaten healthy consistently for 5 years. I actually study nutrition in college right now and I’m about to complete my degree. Disorders such as IBS, ulcerative colitis and others cannot be simplified down to one treatment plan as everyone’s body is different. Living with IBS is a huge difficulty for me and in order to find the diet that works best for me I have to try different things.

    • @AlexaDaFonte
      @AlexaDaFonte Před 5 lety +1

      Aurelien B i don’t eat dairy because I am lactose intolerant but there would be no way for you to know that because we are communicating THROUGH A SCREEN. That’s the problem with the this platform- people think they know more about your body than you do. As far as symbiotic relationships, our bodies all have different microbiomes and that’s what makes us all unique. So my population of gut bacteria (which is at an overgrown state right now) will react differently than your gut bacteria. Certain foods like dairy absolutely aggravate IBS and GI disorders and that’s why I don’t consume them. For me, eating foods that do
      not ferment in my gut and cause my bad gut bacteria to grow even more is extremely important. It takes me days and sometimes weeks to even pass food I ate a week ago, so continuing to contribute to my discomfort is not ideal.

      Gastroparesis might also be caused by a lack of production of gastric acid due to a damaged mucosa within the stomach which may disrupt the correct functioning of the muscle.
      Dr Esselstyn showed that the health of the endothelium can be corrected by eating a lot of cooked greens (5 times a day, the size of the fist) and a low fat plant-based diet.

      I once bought a supplement and after I realized that the concentration of each pill was so small that I would've had to take 3-4 pills each day to achieve the dose at which studies have shown it actually has an effect. 😂 So yeah, since then I make sure the concentration of whatever I'm having is the recommended dose or at least half (so I can take just 2 instead of a quarter of the bottle).

    This is so interesting! I really like Kimberly Snyder because she addresses a lot of the issues around vegan eating and digestion and extracting good nutrition from a plant based diet and I feel like she has a lot of the answers to some of the things you addressed here as a nutritionist. I couldnt believe how many people slammed those IG vegans who went back to eating meat seems harsh. Somes times environmentalists cant avoid using plastic or petroleum either. I feel like the same negative things can be said about ANY kind of diet not being good for you because of individual experiences. But totally wrong to judge a persons health. I dont want to take painkillers a lot of the time, and yet pain gets real sometimes.

    My story is opposite to Bonny Rebecca, I had really bad digestive issues from eating meat eggs and dairy, so I stopped eating meat and dairy 18 years ago, I would cheat and have a small dairy chocolate, but then get I'll after, I stopped eating fish, because it just didn't feel right , but I still never felt well, I was tired and always had sore throats, and depression, so 3 years ago I made the step to go vegan, I was one of those people that thought it would be really hard , so I set a date March 1st, 2016 and I've been totally vegan, ever since, I even make my own body products, and cleaning products, and I feel well, I do yoga and walking. I have energy, so I know I will be staying vegan for the rest of my life.

I know for a lot of vegans its skin issues, so i wonder what it is about the diet thats causing the skin issues. i was vegan for 2 years and it only made my acne so much worse so i couldn't continue, but i still choose to buy as ethically as i can and as little as i can, but yeah I'm just so curious to know what it is, or maybe its different for everyone

    I strayed... was gone for about three months (I tired of product enforcements and the "poor little privledged girl" syndrome... just being truthful)
    In that time I gained 10 lbs from sweets and eating out. Not healthy! I wasn't very enticed by my usual veggie plates and smoothies. I would look listlessly at my cupboards, bored by its contents then have a hunk of buttered (I'm not 100% vegan) French bread for dinner. FOR DINNER! Grr... sabotaging my own health and wellness.
    This morning I chose to dig back into some Amanda while doing my food prep and I have a lovely plate waiting for me with romaine, celery-almond butter-sliced prune, cherry tomatoes, carrot sticks, avocado with hemp, raw cashews, grapes and a GORGEOUS kale and cabbage slaw.
    The difference is listening to people (love my Miles too! #CrazyHealthyCool) glow about their love for healthy food. The passion is inspiring and is encouraging me back to the plant side from which I strayed.
    If you are a bad vegan like me ("bad" to me is 95% vegan, 5% "that tastes great") find folks who inspire your health goals with their passion.
    Passion inspires passion.

    How to move forward from here is to just be you, enjoy being you, and allow everyone else to be themselves too. Stop trying to change the whole world your way of thinking I guess. (not meant as a criticism but if everyone lightened up a little! the world would be a more loving and forgiving place which would have a positive knock-on effect. x

    damn, this really inspired me, ive been vegan for 5 years I wish I could do more in the community but its just so black and white. To the point where I feel like I use to be so vocal about it and now its more like I try not to get identified by it because that's just who I am (as of right now) and try not to be so conditioned around it but at the same time deep down im passionate about it. a lot of my thoughts in a day are around the cycle of vegan and just curiousity of whats going to happen and what studies are going to show up in the future. I know it will take a lot for humanity to just eat more damn vegetables!! But the point of me pausing the video to comment was that I thought about how long this video in particular is going to be on the internet unless someone hacks the main source of where the internet comes from and swipes everything out, but this right here and now, this video is going to be here from 40 years from now. It makes me want to use my social media even more and start spreading even more knowledge.

    First of all, fantastic video. Sadly I agree with you that it isn't realistic for us to think a plant based world will happen in less than 100 years. What is truly tragic about this is that from an environmental standpoint we really don't have that much time. So I guess we'll see what happens, all we can do is our individual bests

    how do you know that meat is unhealthy? if your primary motivation for the diet is optimal health, why rule out meat? Most studies on it are done with factory farmed or overly cooked meat, or processed. It's obviously been the diet of our ancestors, so what is healthy about going against your nature? Why do you scrutinize meat so much but not medicine or plants? I also want the best health for myself, but if meat is giving people good results, then there must be good to it. This vegan drive is purely ideological, you're ruling out animal murder and not considering animal products at all in the name of better nutrition but really it's because you don't believe in killing anything. I'm not being mean or hateful, just honest

    you handled this whole ex-vegan thing very well, kudos!
    however, just as a counterargument to the whole "my health is requiring me to eat meat/dairy/eggs etc." I truly believe that it not true. your health may require you to eat more of a specific nutrient, and it may be a hell of a lot easier to get said nutrient via animal products, but EVERYTHING is possible to get a plant based version of.
    also on a side note, I've been vegan for going on 7 years now, and I've suffered with GI issues my whole life, veganism never solved it. A couple years ago I was diagnosed with severe gastroparesis, which is essentially paralysis of the stomach. So for me, all foods, whether they are the healthiest combination of veggies and super foods, to animal products, make me very sick. In fact, vegetable and fruits are some of the hardest things (along with meat) to digest bc of the fiber. I have been unable to eat fruits or veggies for almost a year. I am 100% feeding tube dependent, meaning I get all my caloric and nutritional needs through formula. Now, most formula is dairy derived, but I did my research and found amagnificient company that is a sole-source form of oral or tube feeding nutrition that id vegan/gmo free/soy free/gluten free. the point of this - no matter what your health situation, there is always the choice and opportunity to choose compassion.

But if your brain is messed with eating disorder, system is messed, it is their choice to do what is best for them for right now. There is no perfect eating. Health is not just coming from body. It is coming from a lot of many ways. If you have not lived in their life, in their mind, maybe your advice is just for you.

    The reason a lot of us are upset about people turning their back on veganism is because of the animals. If I had health issues I would do anything and everything in my power to stay vegan for the animals no matter how long it took for my health to normalize. My question is, if Veganism is more healthy..they should not need to eat animal products and THEN go vegan...surely if veganism is such a good diet, it should be the answer. Love your video but that point does not really make logical sense ESPECIALLY as a nutritionist. If veganism is the way it should solve all other body issues etc.

    • @yonniehan
      @yonniehan Před 5 lety

      Veganism will not solve all body issues. No one way of eating will do that. Science and research has shown Whole food plant based eating to be the best diet for people and shown to improve many chronic illnesses and diseases like diabetes, heart disease and shown lower rates of cancer. But that doesn't mean your health will be perfect and you won't have issues with digestion or skin or never get cancer. For example, even though soy has been shown to be beneficial for the health and longevity, if you have a soy allergy then you will not feel good when you eat soy. That doesn't mean soy is bad or that humans aren't meant to consume soy. It just mean you aren't meant to consume soy due to your body's biological system. That's why Amanda says go to the root of the problem if possible. Hopefully these ex vegans have seen a doctor who is either vegan themselves or at least knowledgeable in plant based diet. Because I have learned that most doctors receive so little training in nutritition and even then, they only learn essentials like macros and micronutrients.

    • @The1WinningTeam
      @The1WinningTeam Před 5 lety

      @@yonniehan I understand what you are saying but what I am saying is simple logic. If veganism is the healthiest diet then it should be the solution but its like she is saying you need to build up your body to be able to withstand the vegan diet. If the vegan diet is the best then it SHOULD fix the root problem. Having said that I can appreciate what you are saying about soy etc. I just think it's dangerous to promote a 'one seize fits all' diet. Yes veganism works for a lot of people and I respect the vegan movement for making people more aware of what they are eating! However as a scientist myself it seems different people thrive from different diets. To me it is scary that all the vegans are jumping onto the 'no longer vegans' as it seems that some vegans are more concerned with continuing the movement than they are SEEING if it is actually working for that person. To see Bonny Rebecca experience so much hate when she had years of turmoil is honestly disgusting. I do think Amanda has definitely been one of the nice people who were understanding. I just think its very dangerous to promote veganism for everyone and to say if you can't hack it there must be an underlying issue. The truth is in the western world veganism is relatively new so any science we have right now is limited in terms of showing long term effects because these are things you can only soundly judge after hundreds of years. I dont knock veganism as i believe it works for some people and that it has helped society to be more aware of food and what we are actually eating. However I believe it is VERY dangerous to make these blanket statements when each and every human being is so different. I worry that soon young people will stick to a vegan diet even though its hurting them cause they feel like they have to because of how the community is. I can understand youtubers wanting to comment on these videos and they have a right too. However I think its ignorant to just assume 'they weren't doing it right' or had 'underlying issues' in all cases where it didn't work out. I think there needs to be acknowledgment that that diet may not be for everyone. This obviously depends whether people care more about the movement or the actual people. Sound science is built over years and years and 100s of studies. Less than 50 years ago we still believed childrens genes were simply half their dad and half their mom. Now we know it is extremely more complex than that. Again its not to say veganism is wrong. I am just saying we should be careful about having a 'one size fits all' mentality. And yes I am aware there are people who have lived long lives as a vegan but again that does not mean the whole world should.
