The scene with the computer is so dark. He isn't just seeing other heroes dead, he is seeing his old friends, people he invited to his wedding...all gone
The OST and the pacing between the shots of the supers, and the "terminated" on the screen. Absolutely stunning stuff.

Indeed. And it took me a long time to understand the darker and more mature elements of "The Incredibles", because I was a little kid back then. And now as an adult, I understand it completely.
Drives home just how evil Syndrome really is, too. He comes off like a lunatic most of the time, but he’s as vile as the Joker from Batman. Easily. I wouldn’t even remotely put it past him to do what Joker did to Batgirl, either. (Few things say “I’m a real piece of shit” quite like r*ping someone you’ve just paralyzed.)
This movie could’ve been so much darker. Imagine if they included Gazerbeam a lot more during the wedding. Would’ve made the cave scene even sadder. But I don’t blame Brad Bird not including it

When I was a kid, I didn't really understand this part cause I was only there for the action. It took me watching this as an adult to realize that Mr. Incredible thought his whole family was DEAD and his only goal is to protect them from ever being in danger again. Sheeeesh.
That scene also shows a lot of emotional depth with Helen coming to the realization that He thought his entire family was gone, and the wound that created. Her expression goes from frustrated anger to pure sympathy
I love the subtext in the film. The final battle is literally the entire family fighting over the remote. They even argue about which button(channel) to go to!
Pixar in the 2000s were unstoppable; Incredibles, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, Wall-E, UP, Ratatouille, Cars. Just straight up masterpieces, especially Wall-E which my all time favourite.
And Cars 2 broke that trend.

There's a couple of theories around Edna Mode, one being that Syndrome might have come to her for a costume design, and having worked out he was 'unstable', made sure to include a cape.

Bob's story arc is a take on the phrase "No Man is an Island" (literally, Syndrome's island is named Nomanisan), that a man needs to learn to rely on others.
Syndrome's name comes from Hero Syndrome, where a person wants the glory of being a hero without the responsibilities or consequences.
Also it took me too long to figure out that the first robot Mr Incredible fought was originally meant to take out Frozone. In that environment with the Lava Frozone wouldnt have been able to use his powers

yea! remember the first time we see Mirage, she talks to the phone and says that the big guy was still with him, refering to mr incredible being with frozone, since they were aiming for him first. But after bursting out of the building she realises that the big guy was mr incredible, and thats when she says that she is sure she found the one syndrome was actually looking for. Frozone was saved from a certain death.

"Hundred Mile Dash" is by far my favorite action sequence in any Pixar film ever. Dash realizing what he's capable of, piece by piece: hitting the thug at super speed, taking sharp turns on a dime, and then, running on water..... and that final, 'holy crap, this is awesome!' laugh. And at that moment, the music just EXPLODES with Dash's energy.
Pure gold, start to finish.
Dash's laugh when he realizes that he can run on water is everything.

It's kinda like what happens when someone realizes that super speed is more than just running fast. Coming to terms incrementally with what speed can really mean until you realize "oh wow...the Flash is actually just OP then"
I really like how this movie satirizes everything superhero related. Like from how all superheroes where capes, to villains always monologuing. It’s a Pixar classic, and a great superhero satire.
It's as much a superhero homage as parody.
I still consider it best superhero movie ever, and that includes the entire MCU.

Did you ever see Jack Jack attacks? It's the hilarious short that fills in the blanks of what he was doing while with the baby sitter.
It goes with the scene where the mom was listening to the phone messages from kari.
The two old men towards the end of the film are made to look like and are voiced by Frank and Ollie two of the "old men" of Disney animation. They worked on films like Bambi and Cinderella. It's kind of like a passing of the torch moment from the old guard.
They were also the two engineers on the NYC Hudson that got hit and derailed in the Iron Giant.
The Incredibles is one of the best animated movies I have ever seen, unlike a lot of movies which usually age badly and have uncanny stuff about it, this movie ages like fine wine, the jokes, the fight scenes and the character development gets better and better, Syndrome is also a great example on how you do a twist villain in which he doesn't turn evil out of nowhere and we actually see him be evil most of the movie
18:51 Frozone was actually the person they intended to approach earlier in the movie (at 7:18), until Mirage realized by 8:10 that Mr. Incredible (Syndrome's ultimate target) was with him.
I love the role reversal: during the interviews, Elastigirl didn’t want to give up superhero work, while Mr. Incredible talked about settling down and raising a family.
Real men want such things. Boys want to play around.

I love that they subvert a lot of superhero tropes in this. Like Bob. He's a super-strong, almost unbreakable tank, but he isn't a meathead. He's intelligent, tactical, quick -thinking, and when he's on the job, very professional. Same with Helen. She has far more skills than you'd think, including being able to pilot a jet, with combat evasive maneuvers. Both of them are professionals, and it shows.
The brassy, James Bond style, soundtrack goes a long, long, way to making The Incredibles the movie that it is. You just can't beat it.

“And got busy!” Gets me every time 😂 we were too young to understand this adult joke.
The last voice you hear in the movie is John Ratsenburger. Back then, Pixar, the maker of the movie, was still a fairly new company, and so far all its movies were huge successes. Not wanting to tempt fate the part of the Underminer was created specifically for Ratsenburger, who had participated in all the movies thus far. He was considered a good luck charm.
The director, Brad Bird, made sure that in the final edit, there was equal family time and hero time to show that neither was more important.

Syndrome was inspired by Batman and Robin and the director Brad Bird thought to himself “What if Robin was rejected by Batman and felt bitter about it?”
If you haven't yet watched The Incredibles 2, I can't advise you strongly enough to first watch the 10-minute featurette "Jack Jack Attack" before it. It is an excellent segue between the two. Originally, it showed up as a dvd special feature for The Incredibles -- along with an impressively large database of all the Supers during their glory days.

"Where's my super suit?" is one of the greatest scenes in any superhero film.
Sarah Vowel, the voice of Violet, is an incredible author among other things. But I graduated college with her, and did have a couple classes with her...not that she'd remember me at all! Ha! Go Montana State Bobcats!
The fact that the voice of Edna was actually performed by a man escapes all the reactors.
Who happens to be the same guy who directed "The Iron Giant".
When you rewatch it as a kid, you realize that it’s a bit darker than you thought. When they mentioned Stratogale’s cap disaster, she was actually a teenager when she died. Also, Bob has pretty fast reflexes. When Helen punches Mirage, she was trying to punch Bob as well, but he invaded it. I remember hearing people laughing when Mrs. Incredible was looking at her butt and noticed that it’s gotten bigger and as a kid I didn’t understand the joke. Boy was innocent.
Lucky you....when I was a kid even back then I was like "damn" 😂
The first robot that attacked Mr. Incredible in the island was very likely intended to kill Frozone.
There are several hints about this in the movie:
Frozone was one of the heroes that were already located (but not eliminated yet) by Syndrome's computer.
Mirage was undercover spying what Frozone was doing (you can see her in the scene where Mr. Incredible tried to convince Frozone to go save people in the burning building). At first she couldn't identify who was the person he was talking in the car but that incident in the burning building was very likely the moment where she realized that she found Mr. Incredible.
And because Syndrome had a personal grudge against him, he changed plans and invited Mr. Incredible to the island instead of Frozone. Which is probably why the robot went out of its way to lead Mr. Incredible to the volcano (because extreme heat was Frozone's weakness).
9:27 As someone who works in insurance, I can say that I have actually been congratulated for doing something a lot like what Bob did at the start. Memo got sent round the whole office. It was really heartwarming, I forwarded the memo to my parents.

The names of the children are so clever if you haven't noticed. Dash can well dash, Violet can go into ultraviolet which we can't see, ultraviolet cameras would be able to pick her up though. Jack jack, Jack of all traits.

We all need an Edna Mode in our lives.
Edna Mode's voice was provided by Director Brad Bird :) - The one spot where the CGI looks really funky in this movie is where Elastigirl turns into the boat and her face looks weird.
One of the dvd extras is a short called Jack Jack Attack. It's all about the mishaps that the babysitter has to endure while watching over Jack Jack.
For some reason I find that everyone agrees that this movie is great and yet it still gets ranked in the middle by most critics and websites in favour of Toy Story, WALL E and Up.
The Incredibles is BY FAR the best Pixar movie ever made. It is consistently funny, the dialogue is incredibly mature, the script is first rate, the villains are excellent, the story is literally perfection, the score is iconic. I can’t think of anything wrong with this movie aside from the animation not aging super well, but it’s still pretty good today and was game changing at the time.
I remember watching this movie sometime around 2013-14 for the first time and while I thought it was great at the time, it’s gotten better and better as an adult. 10/10
For some reason I've never thought this through, but the Incredibles is my favorite too. It is far more meaningful to me than Up and Wall-e, which I also enjoyed.

Yeah, the Incredibles is an impressive example of a movie where all 4 main members of the protagonist-family have story arcs... and it deals with many real-life issues.
The character of Edna was based on Vera Wang, who among other things, made skating costumes for figure skater Michelle Kwan (why Pixar had Edna make "super suits").
Not so much Vera Wang, but epic Hollywood fashion and costume designer Edith Head. Look her up. The resemblance is uncanny. Also many of the non-super costumes in this movie are very much influenced by the style of Edith Head.
The Underminer was voiced by John Ratzenberger, the only person to perform a voice in every Pixar movie. Two of the most recognizable are Hamm the piggy bank in Toy Story, and John in Wall-E.
Despite his superhero outfit, Syndrome is basically a mad scientist.
Man I love the moment when Mr.Incredible is about to kill Mirage and become a killer. "No, there isn't. In fact, there's no time at all". The seriousness on his voice, the lower rendition of the main theme. It's my favorite part of the movie.
When he throws his boss through the walls is my all time favorite Pixar moment. When Dash runs on water is a close second.

Like he doesnt just mean no one will be special anymore when everyone has powers, but also that he knows people will use their new powers to wage war on one another and destroy the world in the process and hes fine with letting that happen
The Incredibles are pretty much a prime example of what the Fantastic Four should be in the movies. Amazing that there are three versions of them in film, and the closest is the 1994 unreleased one.
The 2005 team was quite accurate, at least as far as the team itself. Doom was mishandled, of course.
Sadly the best Fantastic Four movie didn't have the FF. Here's hoping the next one will be as good as the Incredibles.

FYI Syndrome is also a technical term in computer science and digital electronics.
I think that his Villain name is pretty cool, considering that it's threatening but also that his 'superpower' is being skilled in computers and electronics

As someone who spent many years in insurance I can assure you that we did exactly what Bob did. Legally, the policies have to be worded VERY CAREFULLY to explain exactly what we did and didn't cover, but most people (especially the elderly or those with basic English) couldn't understand them.
People: If you want to know how to get your claim put through, ask the customer service guys. The company will make a note of what you asked about, so be vague. Remember, you're only asking HYPOTHETICALLY!

VKunia near the end you asked how does jack jack have so many powers.Well the answer is simple really,think of it as if his body has a wheel of powers and it is just spinning and spinning around until at the right moment or age it will finally stop and land on his permanent power or powers.So until that time comes he is just going to have random powers,maybe if he’s lucky all of his abilities right now are his permanent powers
One thing I love is how this movie reflects the actual history of superhero comics. Post WWII the public lost the taste for them (then other stuff happened) and superhero comics basically went away and ended The Golden Age. Then in the 60s they came back in The Silver Age and we got the new Barry Allen Flash, Hal Jordan Green Lantern, and most relevant to this movie The Fantastic Four (along with a hundred other heroes)!
To your question as to why they made ElastiGirl dummy thicc: Animators long ago had to decide how they wanted to differentiate youthful female bodies and adult female bodies. They basically came down to giving adult woman a large bust or a big butt and they thought big butt was the way to go. Some animations have diverted from this but many stay in line with it. So if they weren't dummy thicc than most animated mom's would have had a voluptuous rack.

However it is not always true moms would have huge racks, it depends 'mostly' on genes and diet. I'm sure we've all seen at least one skinny mom who steroetypically might be bigger post-pregnancy.
I personally know someone who was less than 90 pounds but was forced a ridiculous fatty diet and is well over 200. Is it cuz of diet or genes alone? No, it was definitely both from the 14+ years I known her.
There's no end to the surprises from the human race.
I know a woman who has birthed 4 kids, and she still looks like she could be 20 years old, both in her face and in her very slim physique. I sometimes wonder if other women hate her. She also happens to be very pretty. She's kind of a miracle, I guess.
This movie is on my list of like maybe ten absolutely perfect movies that I wouldn't change a thing about.

From my perspective, The Incredibles is absolutely based on the Fantastic Four: Elastagirl is Mr Fantastic, Violet is the Invisible Woman (obviously!) and Mr Incredible is based on The Thing. Dash is less obvious, but I think his speed and hot headedness is meant to recall the Human Torch.
Even The Underminer at the end is a reference to Moleman!
I’m so grateful for a kids film that isn’t patronizing or full of magic or quips or stupid moments. It still holds up for adults, It’s such a real story with real people and they don’t really make films like this for families anymore as they just assume kids are thick.
Helen thinks Bobs having an affair, their family isn’t perfect, Mirage flirts with Bob, Mirage tells Syndrome to basically F off after gambling her life, Helen screaming at her kids to help her out on the plane, they are just real people whereas films tend to make everyone perfect

This is still one of my favorite Pixar films and I love that even now that we've been inundated with superhero ideas, it still holds up, can draw tears to my eyes and keeps my attention. Great reaction V

This is one of my favorite movies. Must have watched it 10 times since it came out. Brad Bird really nails the balance of action, family dynamics, style and comedy in this movie. Will never get tired of it. The best Fantastic 4 movie ever :p
The funny/fascinating thing is, Elastigirl's curviness is a great example of changing beauty standards in our culture: 20 years ago, larger butts were generally portrayed as "undesirable" in movies/TV, and so her bigger butt was originally meant to show how she'd gained weight as a result of motherhood and retirement, and no longer had a "perfect" body. Hence why she sighs sadly after looking at her butt in the mirror.
But nowadays, most people who watch the movie for the first time think her body (and especially her butt) look amazing, because our cultural beauty standards have shifted to appreciate curves again. :)
And yet it could shift again unless stagnation and devolution is happening

@@BluEx22329 I'm mostly talking about the sad "mainstream white people culture" of the early 2000s - the culture that said Britney Spears and Kate Winslet were "fat", body-shamed Jessica Simpson for gaining like 15 pounds, and gave us that scene in Mean Girls where Regina grows a slightly bigger ass and it's enough for her to get mocked and laughed at by the entire school.

You'll love Incredibles 2 if you want more Helen. It's basically her movie in the same way they this was Bob's movie.
Crazy part about the database scene is the fact that some of the superheroes were at the wedding, and Bob knew gazerbeam's identity when he read the newspaper. Meaning that some of them were legitimate friends of Bob and Hella. Syndrome was straight up murdering all of their old friends.
Wish I watched this more as a preteen/teen, it really is one of the best superhero movies ever made.

One of my favorite things is (it’s probably an behind the scenes thing) they got an orchestra, who focuses on classical and other movie soundtracks, to basically make that jazz like music for The Incredibles, which is usually NOT played by a full orchestra, and the players had little experience in playing in that style, so it was a learning experience for everyone.

is the best scene I've ever seen in my life😂
There were some comedic parts, but the story was a solid superhero movie! And the island was a total Bond villain lair! While stylized, this movie is, well, to steal a quote, totally wicked! And Edna was my favorite character! And as you pointed out the kids were had a name similar to there powers. In the case of Jack-Jack, he has many different powers, as in jack of all trades. Not to spoil, but they go into that in Incredibles 2
The costume designer is a parody of Edith Head, a legendary costume designer from the golden days of Hollywood.

I love the naming conventions for the kids in this movie.
Violet = Ultraviolet manipulation / Teen girl nervous about interaction.
Dash = Super Speed / Young boy always full of energy, always dashing off
Jack Jack = Jack of all trades / A baby, full of potential, endless possibilities.
I always also associated Violet with the phrase 'shrinking violet' which means 'A very shy person, who avoids contact with others if avoidable.' It kind of fits her personality throughout the movie until she gets her confidence.

The Incredibles and Up are Pixar's best work.
Even though it's a superhero story, a lot of the film is James Bond-inspired, such as the car at the beginning, and Syndromes evil island lair. They wanted to get composer John Barry (who wrote the score for the Bond film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service") to write the score, but he declined, so instead they hired Michael Giacchino, and told him to write something "Barry-esque." And he nailed it.
(OHMSS is one of the older Bond films, and the guy playing Bond, George Lazenby, only appears in that film as Bond. But the music for the film was iconic and its theme was echoed in a lot of the later Bond films.)
It's funny how some of the best movies of various genres are the ones that are satire of them. The Increadibles poking fun at the super hero genre, Galaxy Quest poking fun at Star Trek, yet they're some of the best movies of those genres.
Still my favorite Pixar movie. Great action, family portrayals are near perfect (kids fighting over the remote, parents fighting over directions...), and an insightful commentary on society.
I love how they showed 2 different methods to infiltrate the enemies lair based on their different powers

The music, the island base, and the egg monorails are all borrowed from the Bond movie You Only Live Twice. It is worthy to see, and when you make the connections you will have a few "aha" moments.
I could never forget this movie lol! If you forgot meet the Robinsons 100% HAVE to rewatch! :) it’s honestly so underrated by Disney there should have been a ride or show in tomorrow land another one is ratatouille.

These were the beginnings of the years when Hollywood started thinking "crossover" en masse for the first time. And the biggest crossover here was that adults walked out having felt as entertained as their kids. For most of my childhood (I'm older) there were "kids" movies (although they called them family), but the parents really don't want to be there. A really good movie with an amazingly developed aesthetic for the time. Lots of adultts were at work the next day going "Saw that movie 'The Incredibles,' you gotta' check it out!" Hollywood quickly learned this was very good for profits.
What's cool about this family's particular superpowers are their powers represents their family roles. The mother stretches and bends for her family. The father is strong. The girl is shy and protects herself and creates shields and walls around herself and wants to be invisible. The boy is hyper and can run like the wind.
The beginning of this movie was nostalgic. Every time I saw it as a middle schooler, I knew some kick-@$$ scenes are gonna come up.

Myself, I like the humor, like Bob starting out modern times with a spare tire, and him not fitting into the capsule on the first island drop. Frozone's argument with his girlfriend (Samuel Jackson needs to do more comedy).
As you perceived, their powers are symbolic of their life roles. Helen needs to stretch herself to take care of the family, Bob provides the strength, Dash is the classic hyperactive boy, and Vi is almost literally a shrinking violet.
Snoop around CZcams and you'll find Jack-Jack attack, which is a cut scene of the babysitter dealing with an unpredictable super-powered baby.
I can recall back in 2005, Rolling Stone Magazine called superheroes goingunderground a "hidden right-wing agenda"...
Jack Jack Attack wasn't a cut scene, it was a short before a movie.
