  • Ryan Bomar and I endured 8 hours of bus transit to make this flight happen but definitely worth the long hours to fly this classic before retirement. This plane was originally owned by SAS as an MD-81 under the reg OY-KHK, and later upgraded to an MD-83 before changing hands to Allegiant. Flight data is as follows:
    Airline: Allegiant Air
    Aircraft: MD-83 (Upgraded form an MD-81)
    Reg: N866GA (Formerly OY-KHK)
    Flight#: 503
    Route: SMX - LAS
    Seats Shown: 34F, 27F, 33A, 30A(approximately)
    Check out Ryan's view from Seat 34A here:

    The bus ride would have sapped my will to live. Cheers.

      Ryan Kenyon The adrenaline rush from the MD-80 pretty much numbed the bus rides haha.

    Awesome Catch! I love the MD-80 models. I still remember them being introduced back in the '80's. Flown on a few with American Airlines over the years. Connected out of KDFW (Main Hub) a couple of times. I used to live close to KDTW and have often driven at the exact spot where Northwest Airlines flight 255 sadly ended up after crashing in August 1987.

      Eric Lozen Sounds like you lived in MD-80 heaven back then :) Always thought the polished silver livery on the AA MD-80s complimented that aircraft nicely.

    I like the combination "right seat / left seat" take-off views! Must be a trade secret!

      Dean Rushmore Thanks! Lots of empty rows on this flight being Super Bowl Sunday.

    Sadly Allegiant retired all of their MD-80s in November

      Cheez Boi The Mad Dogs will be missed. I always thought the T-tail aircraft looked awesome.

    3:23 I thought only DC-9s made that “siren” sound when starting up?
    Also 4:39: whoops too much power xD

    • @LoveJT8D
      @LoveJT8D  Před 5 lety +4

      I thought so too, but apparently the sound is picked up in the PA due to bad electrical shielding. This aircraft was also a former -81 variant so maybe still older electrical technology in those birds.

      @VoraciousAvgeek Před 5 lety +1

      @@LoveJT8D Ah alright then. Must be older engines!

    • @LoveJT8D
      @LoveJT8D  Před 5 lety

      @@VoraciousAvgeek Engines are most likely standard as to what most remaining MD-80s are using. Most likely the poor electrical shielding is tied to the PA system which picks up that siren sound from the fuel igniters.

      @VoraciousAvgeek Před 5 lety +1

      Oh ok (I’ve always wondered why there is a hum whenever someone is speaking over the PA.)

    Amazing video! I flew this aircraft not long ago from PGD to LCK and then back.

      Eden Roshberg That’s awesome! Sadly I think this bird is now parked in the desert.

    I remember flying Allegiant MD-80’s from Santa Maria to LAX and LAX to Sioux Falls, South Dakota

    The MADDOG as it's BEST > FANTASTIC!
    I've seen, that G4 has 42 MD-83 in service yet...thumbs UP!
    What's the main difference between the MD-81 and MD-83 Model?

  • @VMCAviationVideos
    @VMCAviationVideos Před 6 lety +1

    That's a long bus ride just to fly on a Mad Dog. I remember the days when I hated to fly on those things 😬

      VMC Aviation Videos Haha, yeah those bus rides = dedication :). Back in the day, these jets were so common that you don't think of them is sentimental until they're almost gone.

    • @VMCAviationVideos
      @VMCAviationVideos Před 6 lety +1

      I do like your dedication. Back in the days I was making sure I get some rides on a Caravelle, BAC 1-11, 707, 747SP, Concorde plus some other jets and props while they where still used by airlines.

    Multiple vantage points??? Your videos are impressive as hell man. I feel like such an amateur! 😩
    But awesome route and aircraft, and amazing high resolution shots. Do you know how they convert MD-81’s to later editions?

    • @LoveJT8D
      @LoveJT8D  Před 6 lety +1

      Zach Lang Thanks Zach! The plane was fairly empty so that helped with mounting a couple extra cameras :) I'm glad fellow enthusiasts can grab ideas from these videos. I started with just a SD pocket camera before GoPros were even popular or even 720P for that matter haha. Some of the early footage is pretty rough haha.
      I think the conversion to the 83 was more range and improved avionics but not 100% sure.

    @gabesuper80 Před 5 lety +2

    Holy crap, those are definitely older JT8D-217 engines... you can still hear the ignition "siren" that's on the Dc9 as well! Crazy! Also, how did you get to sit/take a video in multiple seats?
