He's got a 1950s, self-help or documentary kind of voice. It's easy to listen to, makes the lesson all the more fun to learn. What a great teacher, and a fantastic lesson!
Howard Stern
@@iamhere444 What do you mean? Lol
I had this maniac for single string class at MI. It was a 9:00 a.m. class and Dan was always ready to rumble, while I was ready to crawl back into bed. Monster player. It's great to see you still around and rockin' it man!
me 2 he was a maniac
Yes, he was my single string improvisation teacher too. Great man, great player, very humble and he respect to the students too. Great teacher!!.
Same here. What a player. No excuses kind of guy. Practice 10 hours a day every day kinda dude
Had him for single string back in the late 80's, too. One of the good guys at GIT during that time. I learned a lot from him. I loved his no BS approach to teaching.
"Never underestimate the listener" Beautiful. Thanks for this video dude, it's great.
As a jazz guitar player for 30+ years..you are the real deal. I love your take on theory and the geometric explanation... this channel is an invaluable resource as an instructor and just an old session player looking for a fresh outlook from an amazing craftsman.
One of the best lessons on YT. TY.
Great lesson Dan!! Its really good to see you again in YT. Cheers.
Great video. He speaks really clearly and his scale technique is so clean. Nice stuff!
Changing the key root a whole step apart is such a simple idea but it really is helping me connect all the parts together when I'm improvising!
howard stern is rippin it
Great lesson and concepts!
Awesome lesson, beautiful guitar

Thank you again Danny,i attended in 84,and learned so much from you ,and my personal guitar teacher Jamie glaser. at that time your wife had a consession stand at GIT.keith Wyatt was my neighbor on Murray Drive in Silverlake, and I thought you were a world class player even then. Write when you can . your pal Jesse ,just like Keiths uncle.

Very helpful Mr Gilbert! Your a Great Teacher! Youve given me the next three months of good stuff to practice on! Exactly what I needed to learn! Again, I dont use this lightly, your a Great Teacher and specifically I like your no nonsense approach!

Finally someone explaining clearly what I’ve been struggling on.
I love the parting message 'work on that... that'll take a while.' hahaha what legend
Great lesson, very informative ;-)
good stuff!
This was great, thanks, been searching for "how to make solos on guitar" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Ganyatty Guitar Gainify - (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my mate got amazing success with it.
Just wonderful, I been tryin to find out about "advanced electric guitar techniques" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Ganyatty Guitar Gainify - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my co-worker got amazing results with it.
Finally someone who knows how to jam without crunch! Haha Thank you.
This was great, thanks, been searching for "blues guitar lesson video" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Wanichael Corylexander Equalizer - (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my colleague got great success with it.
This was great, I been tryin to find out about "blues style guitar" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Wanichael Corylexander Equalizer - (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my brother in law got excellent success with it.
Thank you
Came here looking for more advanced guitar lessons. Definitely overshot it.
really really GOOD
Thanks m8...great lesson..:)
I heard of Dan Gilbert from Jen Trani, on her channel, (her mentor) she said he is outstanding, best guitar player she has ever known, he is phenomenal. This is bit advanced for me, but getting lots from it.
Makes me realize I don't know my major scale as well as I thought I did...
Playing in position is great for fast tempo tunes or tunes with complex chord changes. Playing along a single string, pairs of strings, or groups works better for modal tunes or more static harmony. Just my opinion...
Muy buena...recomendada 100 por 100
Nice
I like you. You're a cool, smart guy. A great combination. Thank you and may God bless you.
Anyone hear Grateful Dead's Fire On The Mountain? When he was playing the chords slow?
It's the same progression in a different key! I love that song.
"Okayyyyy. A little taste of that!" 🤣🤣🤣
and i have been enlightened
The neat part of this lesson is when he creates a backing track for you to give it a go at improvising over the c to d changes without him soloing.
RobTackettCovers you can do ir yourself, and use the tempo you need. it's really easy, band in a box or similar, or soundforge and you record ir yourself with a metronome. the neat part of this lesson is that it's neat.
where do your chord tones fall on rhythmically?
On the strong beat of the tempo, like on a 4/4 you do on 1 and 3, or in a jazz acentuation on 2 and 4. In 3/4 is on 1.
This guys upper lip could cut diamonds 1:34
this guy is a god
I don't trust guitar teachers with clean cut haircuts.
The more hair, the better the guitar teacher lol
Is Jamplay better than GuitarTricks?
Pauls brother or uncle?
2 advanced 4 me
i watch this video, and im overcome with extreme confusion
for real? I watch this video and i'm overcome with extreme joy that i've found what i've been looking for for a long time. He's taking everything i've learned about music theory and my guitar and helping me put it into practice. This is so awesome.
cool story bru
23 who disliked this didn't know their scales.
Why does this guy look like a rockstar from the 60s?
If Gilbert Gottfried and Pat Metheny had a baby...
This was great, thanks, been searching for "acoustic guitar soloing tips" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Ganyatty Guitar Gainify - (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my buddy got excellent success with it.
Kylo Ren got old.
who knew Howard Stern taught guitar?!
What's the point you not showing how to play the lead notes. Did some one show U that fast. Completely waist of time
What? ya gotta know mixolydian.. that leaves me out.
That moment you realise that you can play some advanced shit... But are not able to do this... Shame on me for being so shitty :(
