- Mary Annella Zervas was an American Benedictine nun and victim soul, who died after an inspirational three year battle against the painful and disfiguring skin disease Pityriasis rubra pilaris. Prior the the mass secularization of American culture in the 1960's, Sister Annella's grave in Saint Joseph, Minnesota was considered a place of Christian pilgrimage and began to be once again around 2008.
On 15 October, 2023, Bishop Andrew Cozzens of the Roman Catholic diocese of Crookston announced that preliminary steps are already being taken towards formally opening Sister Annella Zervas' cause for Sainthood.

She wanted to suffer, she asked Father for this and He granted her request. Hallelujah! Our Father is true to His word. I once suffered painful facial disfigurement from an illness no doctor could figure out. I could no longer work or take care of my children. One night it all got to me and I cried and cried for hours begging Father to take me home. In the morning when I awoke my first thought was, "Oh no, even my God has forsaken me." I walked in a daze into the washroom and was urged to look in the mirror, something I had been avoiding because my face was so disfigured. Alas, my face peered back at me completely healed. God heard me and answered me yet not the way I wanted, it actually never occurred to me to ask Him to heal me lol. Hallelujah!
No Halle... In lent please 🙃

@@for_a_reason we can't say Hallelujah in lent?
@@HesusEleison yes dear
@@HesusEleison There are certain words that are triggers for me to share testimonies, beautiful happens to be a word that triggers remembrance of one of the most touching and amazing experiences I have ever had with our Heavenly Father. It happened a few years ago during a time I was involved in the battle for truth with some very powerful people. I had to become stronger than I have ever been to. However one day I noticed that I was no longer aware of the child within me. This was a special part of me I kept hidden from the world, so much like a beautiful innocent child, curious and full of good thoughts yet here she felt lost me and I felt so darn ugly within. I spoke out loud to Father in a child like voice that surprised me given my previous thoughts as I asked, "Father, do you still think I'm beautiful?" Believe me it had nada to do with physical beauty. He answered immediately with words that felt like liquid gold flowing into and around my brain and then into my heart where they exploded in love and humility. His words were, "You are more than beautiful, you are Mine." Who but our Father could answer with such sweet perfection? Hallelujah!
Wow, what a model she is for those of us who suffer from painful conditions. Servant of God Mary Annella Zervas pray for us.

Same here! I have the flu for the past one week and felt like I was suffering! But it seems nothing in comparison to Sr. Anella’s suffering and pain.

I've lived in Minnesota all my life and have never heard of Sister Annella. I'm grateful for finding her story here. Sister Annella please pray for three of my children who have fallen away from their faith. ✝️ ❤🙏 And please pray for your childhood state that has one of the most liberal abortion laws in our country 😢

I LOVE the Saints! They led me to my Catholic convertion !
Wonderful nun a victim soul🙏
I’m sure she will one day be canonised🙏
Thank you so much for your ministry. You make the saints come alive with the stories of their great devotion. ❤ God Bless you
I wish the Catholic Church would return to Pre-Vatican II Traditional Catholic Services. I think there would be an increase in attendance and interest in future women and men joining religious convents and monasteries to serve our lord. The Catholic Church was always so good about teaching it's parishioners about our Saints as role models. So thank you for creating this channel to honor these blessed individuals that lived in God's Grace.
There are still Latin Masses said all over the world. ICKSP, FSSP, and SSPX. Look and see if you can find which order operates in your country and then attend, God bless you 🙏
Thank you so much for these videos and stories of the saints and holy people. They are truly enlightening and make me proud to be a Catholic . Without these stories I would never know these heroes of the faith, esp Sr Annella who was born in our own country. Thank you, Mr. Chong, for your faithfulness.
I hate how people say God makes people suffer but its actually rather that God allows evil to come to us not that he is directly doing it
Agreed. I myself kinda dislike that phrasing of God making ppl suffer or sending suffering, as in most cases God rather allows evil in order to defeat it by having greater good come from it in the end despite itself, not for the sake of evil or suffering itself.

i never knew about this. i live in minnesota and st benedict is only about an hour and a half from my house. i should visit her grave.
James chapter 1 and verse 13 & 14 & 15 says…”when under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God”. For with evil things God cannot be tried, nor does he himself try anyone. But each one is tried by being drawn out and enticed by his own desire. Then the desire, when it has become fertile, gives birth to sin, in turn sin, when it has been carried out, brings forth death! God’s word speaks Truth, imperfect humans speaks lies about God!

As a practicing Catholic, I do not believe that God torments his servants in this way. No!!
Yeah, I think a better phrasing would be that God allows people to suffer, rather than outright sending suffering normatively.
Trials tribulations tests come from God.He gives life and death n life again. How difficult was the trial of Jesus peace be upon him? Then how was He raised in might n glory by God the eternal.
His only son He tormented this way. Why ? For us otherwise it would have been hell for us.
Same with Sister Mary whose heroic torture saved so many.
Come Holy Spirit Come through the powerful intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary your Beloved Bride so people understand Redemptive Suffering. Amen.
@@jdosvd God Himself did not torment His Son, but gave Him over to the sufferings, which wasn't directly caused by God but by men. Christ had a unique role to fulfill there that no other human could. Our suffering can be redemptive in several ways, but that doesn't mean God generally sends sufferings nor that He likes suffering.
Have you ever heard of the stigmata? Thousands of souls have asked our Lord for sufferings and they got it. Take up thy cross and follow me”. Learn your Catholic history…
I know that many Saints suffered, and that even Our Holy Mother had to go through the great anguish of seeing Her Divine Son being crucified, but in all honesty I do not understand why God values suffering..🤷🏼♂️🥲😳
Because there can't be true love without sacrifice.
Seems to be only in this existance. In Heaven, where God is, there is no suffering.
It isn't that God values suffering. Our suffering is the result of sin. Sin equals death and suffering. God doesn't like the fact that we have to endure suffering. We have all died already because of the darkness in our hearts. God's compassion holds death and agony off. In God's great mercy, He only allows Satan so much reign over us. This is to give us a clearer path to finally accept Jesus as Lord and Savior so that we are 100% forgiven and able to be one the God again and eventually reside with Him for eternity.
Praying to God for disease is actually backwards.
@@SilentNoMore64 Thank you for your input. There are countless examples of Saints who suffered greatly during their lives on Earth. Padre St Pio, for example, suffered the Stigmata for around 50 years, and St Bernadette also endured great physical suffering, and verbal abuse by her superior during her time in the convent, or as in the example here of “the sufferings God sent to this Minnesota nun”. As I said, I don’t have the mental capability of getting my head around the value of suffering to God. I also do not understand why God allows satan and his demons to destroy people’s lives, and Eternity, instead of just confining them to the hell which He created for them.
@@zeejimi4044 The disciples of Jesus truly did suffer because of their faith. They never ASKED for sickness or persecution. They only asked for the strength to do the will of the Lord and for His name to be glorified.
Ask yourself if this young woman would have prayed for God's healing and mercy so that she could go on to accomplish his plans for her, would that not have been more glorifying to God?
I know you have difficulty understanding God's toleration for our suffering, but in actuality, if God just locked Satan and his demons up, we would still have people among us murdering, lying, stealing, coveting etc. The enemy took hold of the world at the fall of mankind in Eden. That was the point that Satan had a foothold on us. The suffering we are experiencing now, we brought on ourselves. We chose Satan. Satan hates God and wants to devour God's children. We are caught in the middle, but God's word tells us that our sorrow will become joy. Our enduranceand reading scripture ads to our faith. Without adversity, we do not seek God.
I’ve suffered MUCH MUCH worse than anyone I have read about, known, heard about, etc. and not a single person has offered me sainthood. Y’all wait until you hear everything I’VE been through!!!!!!
The only difference is the saints "ACCEPTED" their illnesses.
God, who is Love, who is of purer eyes than to behold evil, does not send suffering or evil to us
The cross is God's way of transforming pain into love.
Amen st father pio godbless amen

GOD Does NOT Send Suffering. The Devil does.
Amen 🙏🙏🙏💖
Christians before the bible all considered mary superior to themselves in holiness. Do the research.
Not true. They respected her as the mother of Our Lord JESUS but she was not above anybody. The Holiness was only for JESUS, The attention was only to JESUS and their minds and thoughts of all the Christians before the Bible was focused only on GOD. They knew Mary was the mother and they loved her but she wasn’t above everything.
🙏❤️Amen
God does NOT send suffering or pick and choose just who he is going to mess with.
The title is an insult to Christianity

Truly a loving daughter of god 🙏

Do we worship a CRUEL GOD to inflict such multiple pain to HIS servant?
🙏🙏🙏💜💜💜
She was beautiful.
I wonder if they had a medical prognosis. I have asked God for many things, but continued agony is not one. I am Catholic, and I listen to the need to pray for those in purgatory because of the pain they are in and how they need it to leave.
🙏😇
Hi would someone kindly explain to a Non Catholic what is the reason for asking for such suffering ?
Who is inflicting the suffering and what is accomplished by it ?
Thank you very much
He wasn’t painting Marys image he was painting a lamp post by the Grotto of our Lady of Lourdes on the campus of the Benedictine College in St Joseph, Minnesota.
What's wrong with some of these people commenting saying such hateful things. Saddens me. God forgive them for they no not what they do.
They hate Catholics because they are jealous. I know which is the true church not their churches
I wish I could suffer without complaint. But my extreme anxiety and depression and fear of life makes me want to not be here any longer.
She had a hopeless kidney unsuficiency… probably, she had no correct medical diagnostic😢
Enduring the tests.
13 When anyone is tempted, do not say that he is tempted by God;
because God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;
14 but each one is tempted,
when he is attracted and seduced by his own desire.
15 Then desire,
After she has conceived, she gives birth to sin;
and sin, being consummated, gives birth to death.
16 My beloved brothers, don't err.
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift
comes down from above, from the Father of lights,
in which there is no change, nor shadow of turning.
18 He, of his will,
He made us born by the word of truth,
so that we may be the first fruits of his creatures.
James 1
Amen. I had hoped to see more scripture references in the comments. This story has me a little bewildered in a lot of ways.
Jeremiah 29:11
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Also, when Jesus himself, was praying in the garden of Gethsemane, He asked God if any way this cup could be taken from Him, to do so. BUT not MY will Lord, only Your will.
I believe it is important to remember that God has a journey already mapped out for us. Praying for disease and pain is a little puzzling. Praying for God's will in one's life is more in line with scripture.
There is of course, a possibility that God chose a life of intense suffering for her, but still, Praying for more suffering instead of for God's will with an equal amount of faith and hope that He will deliver her from all sickness, would be more in line with God's word.
God will put hurdles in our life, but our faith is in Him to sustain us. God Himself does not cast evil and sickness upon us. Those things come from Satan. God has him on a short leash and allows certain things.
Lastly, the ultimate test of that which was done as Holy, to glorify God. Does this video glorify God? Or does this video glorify the person.
If we choose, we become the judge of another of God's children. But there is that question.
