Pull Down Faucet Won't Retract

- Kitchen faucet hose won't retract? The fix is simple and will take only a few minutes. The kitchen faucet pull out sprayer gets pulled out and should retract back into the faucet. Many times you can let the sprayer go and it just dangles down in the sink. It may be getting caught in the piping below sink, or the weight may need to be adjusted. This video will show you what to do when the kitchen sink hose isn't retracting.

dude, you're the man! Made my day!
Sweet! Glad to help!
This video was posted 2 years ago and in 2024 is STILL saving the day. Thank you!!
LOL
Was about to return a brand new pull down faucet because I thought it was faulty and wouldn't retract. Glad I found your video before sending it back! Cheers Mike.
Glad to hear it Layla!
I just moved in to an expensive rental and thought I broke the faucet on the first day!! Turns out I had just moved a tool box too close to the weight under the sink. This video saved me time, money on services, and the embarrasement of calling our landlord to tell them we broke something already!! Saving this video!!
LOL Alex! Saved an early eviction!
Same here!
Read this and figured out the problem!!
Had no idea there was a weight! Whoever set my faucet up (just bought this house) installed the weight upside down, so it fell off.
After this video I went back and found the weight in the floor behind a tub I keep down there. Easily fixed and the weight isn't upside down anymore.
Much appreciated for the video, boss
LOL glad you figured it out!
Thank you!!! You saved the day, my 8 year old grandson pulled it & he felt so bad. Came across your video & within minutes we were back in business. Our grandson learned a lesson & so did we. 👌
Glad it worked out well for everyone!

Thank you. My brand new less than 2 weeks old faucet stopped retracting. I’m a senior and mobility challenged. But I got down in my knees and looked under the sink. In my case the weight had caught itself on another hose and was easily freed. Saved me a call to my plumber. You are my hero today. ❤
LOL-glad it helped you!😃

Such an easy fix. Thank you!
You're welcome!
I didn't even know they had weights. My landlord installed one a few months back and suddenly it just stopped retracting and couldnt figure out why. I always thought it needed a weight to keep it down. Turns out the weight just fell off under a pile of compost bags (unused) and it works now
Awesome!
Thanks for this! Simple and easy fix for me!

Awesome Myra!
I'll try a second weight
Thank you!!!!! 🎉🎉
Welcome Debbie!
You’re awesome 😂
Great clip Mike!! Our hose is not getting caught on anything under the sink. I've moved the counterweight up and down the hose in both directions and tightened - but the hose is still not retracting leaving the hose having out about 3 or 4 inches. Any idea on what else I can do, save calling in an expert?
Maybe add an additional weight right on top of the old one. The added weight should help it to retract so long as nothing is impeding the travel of the hose
I’m having the same problem now 😢
Thank you big brain
LOL
Dude bless you
Glad it helped you Gabriella!
THANK YOUU
Welcome Alexandra!
Like many others mine just sits on the hose because it has a hole in it and looks like a donut. It hits the cutoffs and some piping so I'm going to devise a method to affix it up higher on the hose.
A little chewing gum and duct tape!
ok, im going to look & see if i can do it....
You can do it!
Love you
Ur a legend
LOL😄
Ever since we've moved in ours won't retract and I just checked and it doesn't have a clamp it's just a weight with a wide hole so it won't sit higher it only hangs at the bottom
Worst case break out the duct tape! Tape the weight to the hose!
Hi Mike, my pull out spout has the weight but placing it higher didn't retract the spout. Do I need a heavier weight or W-d 40, I just don't know.
Make sure the hose isn't getting caught on a pipe or valve under the sink as you pull it. If it's clear, try adding a 2nd weight on the hose.
Awesome thank you
Thought I broke it
Glad it helped you!
What could the issue be besides the weight? Mine will retract all the way when I push it back in, but not on its own. I adjusted the weight and checked that its not hitting anything on the way down, but it sounds like there is friction with the lines. Underneath there are four lines going into the sink (both end of the loop with the weight, and hot/cold lines) so I’m guessing there are too many things and they’re rubbing against each other? But they’re all the parts that came with the faucet so I don’t know why they wouldn’t fit right.
It could be a small space with lots of things that are contacting it (friction). If you're sure it's not hitting anything, try adding an additional weight to the hose.
It seems like there's a spring needed to pull the spout back up. I'm confused 😕
Nope no spring! It's just the weight. If not getting caught on something under the sink, the 2nd weight should work
Good video but you should mention that the higher you raise the weight, the less the faucet will pull out.
Very true, although if you put the weight just above the point where the hose turns back up, you should have plenty of distance
Do I have to press something to slide out the door on the battery compartment ???
Yes, it will either slide open or there will be a little tab to open the compartment
I have pulled on the hose and it goes so far and stops. I tried to push it back down and it refuses to move. Is there any way to pull the crooked part of the faucet off of it's base?
It sounds to me like the hose is getting hung up on the piping under the sink. Look under the sink as someone else pulls the Fossett out and puts it back in and I think you’ll find the hose is getting stuck on a shut off valve or some thing similar. It should be easy to figure out and you will be able free up the hose.
How do I retrieve the retractable cord to my faucet? It got loose from me when I removed the spray head for cleaning and it disappeared into the pipe.
Reach under the sink, and push the hose up through the faucet body. Then you can grab it or have another person grab it and pull it out so you can get the sprayer back on it.
@@MikeKlimek thank you. Will get my son to do this for me.
I'd like to know how to untwist the water hose. The sprayer is now aimed outside of the sink.
Do you have a clear vinyl hose?
@@MikeKlimek no, it is a metal mesh and this happened just recently. I don't know what I could have done wrong.
@@georginahudspeth9996 Hmmm. Try pulling the spout out as far as it will go and then feed it back in to the faucet in the direction you want. You're looking to release some tension on the hose.
What else could it be besides the weight? I had a plumber come out and loosen something under there but now it is not retracting again, only a month later. Thanks,
Maybe he loosened the weight and it slipped down? Best suggestion is to look under the sink with a flashlight while you have someone pull out the spout a few times. It might be getting caught in the drain lines or valves. You should be able to see the problem when you are under there.
@@MikeKlimek I got under there before I asked. There doesn't seem to be a weight, but it was working fine until yesterday. There is some sort of clip and I am wondering what that is for - the weight possibly? But I have never seen a weight.
@@pattiel1108 Is this clip heavy enough to pull the hose back to the bottom of the cabinet? Or maybe the weight was held by this clip? Here is a picture of what I think you are talking about:: www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-Pulldown-Faucet-Weight-Kit-813189/311598800
@@MikeKlimek What else could be making it tough to retract? It hasn't had a weight for quite some time. A plumber recently did something under there as I stated, but it is back to being hard to pull out and retract.
I asked a neighbor to take a look and he loosened something under there. He said there are 4 hoses or pipes all competing for a small space. Anyway, it 's much better now . I hope it stays that way:)
mine has a magnet part that holds the faucet it and it'snot working
Did you follow the video and check the positioning of the weight?
What faucet is this? Is there a link to it
I don't have the link. It is a Moen and I got it on Amazon
@@MikeKlimek thanks.
Would it be suitable for Singapore ? How’s the faucet compared to delta essa?
@@sadeeqah They look virtually the same. I'm not sure about the Singapore question though.
You just saved me a very embarrassing phone call, thank you
LOL You're Welcome!
What if it doesn't retract even after you relocate the weight to the correct spot?
Then it's likely the hose it hitting something on the way back down, like the cord to the disposal or drain piping. Look under the sink and have someone lower the hose back into the faucet to see what is happening.
@Mike Klimek there is no retraction at all and nothing in the way. Wife admitted that she reefed on the hose too hard, and now it doesn't spring back at all. Probably just need to buy a replacement hose at this point
@@19bunts So while you are under the sink, can you pull the hose into the cabinet as if it is retracting? If so, add another weight to the hose (and make sure it is above the midpoint).
@Mike Klimek yes I can, but adding another weight would only make the problem worse. Their is absolutely no spring back at all. U pull it down and it doesn't go back up
@@19bunts Is your hose plastic or vinyl?
No weight on mine. No help
It may be the installer didn't put it on, or it fell off and was thrown away. The weight will solve your problem. You can order something like this: www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-Pulldown-Faucet-Weight-Kit-813189/311598800
