I hit 9 years clean from a 15 year opiate / heroin addiction in just a couple weeks on 5/27/24. I got on a bus from my hometown of Jacksonville Florida to central Ohio where I only knew one person, which was a cousin I hadn’t seen in 20 years. I have been clean since that day. I was able to do it cold turkey. 3 months later I met my now wife. 2 years and 5 days after moving here, we bought our first house. I forgot to mention, when I got on that bus from Jacksonville, I woke up that morning in my tent that I had be living in for 2 years. There is more to the story, but that’s the basic idea

@@VegasKlNGz here in a bit, I will try to find the time to fill in more of the blanks. But to answer your question. I honestly didn’t care, but the last 3 years, the preferred was heroin. Started with Lortab, Vicodin, and Percocet (I broke my ankle and had to have surgery in 2000 and those were the 3 they gave me immediately) but I will tell my story every chance I get and my wife used to ask me why I told everyone. My answer was always the same “you never know who you are talking to” basically, you never know what that person is going through or if my story might be what they need to hear to get out of addiction. I had no money for rehab. I just had a bus ticket and a duffel bag of clothes when I moved.

I've been sober for around 10 years give or take, and Mike's transparency and honesty about what he went through, what a lot of people go through dealing with that specific substance and the crazy things that we would do to get it, and to not become sick. I think his total honesty, and trust me he was absolutely a hundred percent honest about everything he said when he was talking about that time period in his life. I lived the same thing, just a different state, but I resonated with literally everything he said. I'm so glad that he listened to that voice and those coincidences, and his loved ones and realized this is serious and I got to get it together or I'm not going to be here. And that's quite the reality check when you get to that point and you realize you are at absolute rock bottom and there's no going up easy again. It's going to be one hell of a ladder to climb, and I'm so proud of him for doing it and for all of the years that he has under his belt of sobriety. It is a badge of honor and he should wear it and be proud of it, I'm proud of him for it! And he has a wonderful wife that has stuck by him and supported him and loved him and went through the ups and downs and never gave up on him because she knew that wasn't him in that time in life. I think she knew there was someone inside that she knew was the real Mike, not the situation, not the famous Jersey shore guy, not the ripped abs guy. I really give him so much credit for making that decision in that moment and throwing it away and flushing it, which I will tell you probably was one of the hardest things even though he knew it was the right thing I bet it was incredibly difficult and he probably regretted it to a certain degree just because that's just how the brain works when you're in active addiction. But I'm so glad that he was strong enough to be able to do it and not go back to it and to get the help he needed immediately. So proud of you Mike!! Stay blessed and keep sharing your story for the younger generation, you save one person or you make a difference in just one person's life, then it was all worth it to help someone else not become the people that the drugs made us into. Much respect, great interview, I've also met Steve-O, he's a wonderful guy and I think this was the perfect person to have this conversation with. Well done gentleman!! Keep up the amazing work that you're doing on yourselves because I know myself it is a daily struggle and a daily choice to live the right way. It just goes to show how strong you really are, that people really are if they want something bad enough. Wishing you just all good things in life, everybody at that table, you're all amazing guys and you've changed Your lives completely and that's amazing and I myself am in awe of people who have that mental strength to work through it and continue to better themselves everyday. And to help better other people's lives. It takes a really special person to do those things so hats off to you gentleman!!👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏻💪🏻 And the women that stand behind you as well, they also deserve major credit!!🙌🏻🫶🏻❤️ It takes a special person to weather the kind of storm that we will put our loved ones through when it comes to addiction. So I think that just goes to show what amazing wives and fiance's that you have and how much they truly love you and want the best for your life. ❤🫶🏻👍🏻🙏🏻

But you gotta be self centered to be on those type of shows anyway. If everyone was super humble it would be boring, I get it. But still, respect for changing his life around. But yeah the sober is thing bringing it up a lot is something I heard someone mention. Steve O or a comedian maybe? They said that people shouldn't clap for soing what they should've done from the beginning.
