Unfortunately they say it's not rare for this kind of thing to happen. It's something like 30% of couples the man will cheat on his ailing or dying wife. I guess a lot of people don't take the words " Till death do us part", very seriously.

I wouldn't call it rare. It does occur, however. Both ways. I've been ill and battling cancer for a few years now and know many other patients whose families stand by them my own included. Families rally around the patients more often than not.
During my first hospitalization I was introduced to the hospital's department of counselors and legal teams that it put together to deal with cases like this. There are people, men and women, who decide they just cannot deal with a diagnosis like cancer and have up and left while the diagnosis was being given. It's heartbreaking. But, more often than not, the family stays and cares for the patient. Hospitals have a lot of supportive resources available for families and caretakers of cancer patients.

This is why if I were to be diagnosed (I have autoimmune diseases that increase this probability significantly) I told my partner he'd be in charge of taking care of the kids, but I'd find a professional service to care for me during that time. Would he take good care of me himself? Yes, most likely. But I dealt with plenty alone before he came along and emotionally I know if he took care of me, I'd feel too guilty.

@@leofelix4063 According to statistics (pubmed) 20.8% men leaves their sick wife vs 2.9% woman so men are less loyal and see woman as appliance who exists to serve them, once wife appliance breaks down he searches for new one. Who knows how many cheats during wife's sickness, men are monkey branchers and if they can't find anybody to jump in wife's spot to serve them they might stay but will cheat or try to cheat. Don't need to be terminally ill, they even cheat or leaves their pregnant wife and wife with young children.

I had breast cancer and my husband almost left me. I told him we been married over 25 years. I told him if we get divorced. I will get everything. Because I have breast cancer and we been married over 20 years. If you don’t believe me go ask a lawyer. You won’t want time to get most of your money. LOL Judges don’t like it when the wife is sick and possibly dying. When you get a divorce. Better buckle up and be there for them or lose everything again.
