SW Galaxies was something special once, a long time ago.
Can you imagine if WoW did that with Demon Hunters or Death Knights to actually make them heroic? The players would lose their fucking minds on the forums and reddit. It's shame we'll never see something like a Jedi in MMOs ever again. Well, at least not in ones that will actually succeed.

The Jedi story was so incredible fun to hear! Like, the idea and the way it sounds doesnt even resemble a game online, more like a plot of a series or something. Kinda jealous that sounded way 2 fun

Absolutely loved the Jedi story. It makes me miss Star Wars Galaxies so much. I had so many memorable moments in that game. Starting life on Talus and making the planet my home. Always making sure to come back to Dearic City to hang out after long adventures on the other planets. Was no other game like it, and there probably will never be a game like it again. It was far from a perfect game, but it's uniqueness went a long way.
Yellow sabers are canonically super rare. Only used by Jedi Guards and assassins.
The new canon has ruined lightsabers for me
No longer based on the color of the crystal but influenced by the user
Only cool thing is the way red crystals happen
@@maggimaster I like the idea that the user's personality is reflected in the colour of their lightsaber. But it's also pretty cool with different coloured crystals.

I had a friend who loved dancing in SWG. He was part of some group and had days that he and his friends would put on shows. I didn’t care for it but he was enamored. He was decimated when SWG went away.
When I read a comment saying the Jedi story was the best thing they ever heard I thought they were over exaggerating. Never havre I been more jealous of an in game experience in my life.
That Star Wars story was probably my favourite story i have heard from this show in a long time

I was an avid SWG player back in the day.
I had a Jedi, but it was after they added The Village way of getting one unlocked, and they had removed permadeath by then.
We were still pretty rare, and we still could destroy most everything when fully trained up in skills.
There was a BH Bounty glitch where multiple BHs could get your bounty to kill you if you got too much visibility (it was supposed to be 1v1).
I once had 5 Master BH show up and take me on. All 5 lasted about 12 seconds.
That was so amazing LOL

SWG was one of the best games ever. The Combat Revamp and everyone jedis killed it. One of the most immersive games I have ever played, and been playing mmo's since 99.
And I never did see a Jedi, till the revamp

Jedi were super shady in swg, it was set after Revenge of the Sith and before a New hope, highly dangerous religious zealots and enemies of the Empire
Seeing the chat get hype over the dancer and musician class in SWG made me smile real wide. Man that game was great, such a shame what became of it.

I'm struggling like many with not being in a raiding guild as 9.1 drops. The addiction is nagging me that I am missing out, which I am. But some of these stories remind me just how awful guilds can be. Pugging is its own pain, but you can at the least never worry about seeing those players ever again if the raid is bad.
Do you guys remember times when games had very rare and unique things which you could achieve if you were lucky enough?
... well, I'm going back to do those dailies and farm herbs while later doing a 300-ish run of M+...
Maybe that weapon drop Titanforges or smt idk.

God I miss Swg ..... My dad wouldnt let me play my char unless I would grind jedi exp on his char .... He eventually was a jedi master and my family and friends never figured out how he got through the massive grind.... And since this was after perma death was taken out the server would put together raid groups to attack him..... Ps as for me I became force sensitive the day before they allowed everyone to be a Lvl 1 jedi fml
That Jedi story was like "Leroy Jenkins" / "Arcanite Reaper, Ho!" for SWG; if only someone had captured that on video/etc.

SWGEmu is a good private server that features an older version of the game where the Jedi are still few but not rare. You can become force sensitive and train at the Sisterhood camps on Dathormir doing dailies but the fighting and showing you are Jedi in public spaces gets you flagged and you can even end p on the Bounty Hunter boards. Good BH's can take you down. Other private servers like Legends or Bloodfin feature new combat system upgrade which was what killed the game. Implemented by none other...then J. Allen Barrack. He is notorious amongst us SWG players and still fans as the SWG Killer.

@preach Gaming if you ever do play SWG i am Shure I'm not the only one here would would play with you i was some one who played when the servers were live before Sony got there dam hands on it and have really been on the fence about going back i normally don't play any game on private servers but as its the only way to play it ive really been debating it
Look like the devs of SWG should do a relaunch with old jedi system (NO CHANGES) and maby a grafix tune up ,cash in big time . ah well ....who knows .

I do not have a problem, might be a problem on your end.
Check your Volume Mixer, sometimes it messes up if you have programs that modify your volume, like Discord.

I absolutely go into a raid with no research and am still top 3 dps. In my defense I don’t want to raid and always get drug into doing it. Just stay out of the stuff and kill the things, simple.

You didnt have a chance to become a jedi in swg there was 2 ways pre cu and cu u had a holo cron grind and a aurilla village u have to unlock in cu u had achievements you had to unlock to get the feel of the force and the pre cu holo cron grind you had to get so many combat jobs to max and so many non combat jobs to max to unlock the force tree. there wsa no chance to unlocking jedi it was just really hard in pre cu cause you didnt know what jobs you had to cap

The Jedi explanation is incorrect Preach. In its first inception everyone could become a Jedi however each characters path to unlocking it was unique it was done by mastering professions , you did not know what your unlock was which led to you trying to master every profession in the game. It was the grind of grinds. Also there was no Jedi Tag or such ,we were in hiding , as the game was set after order 66 and before Ep IV we looked like normal characters. You would have to train in secret and private, for every time you used a Jedi skill or sabre your visibility on the bounty terminals went up. If you were not a knight you could be taken down by a BH party. If you were on the route to master you could decimate entire groups hunting you. It was a fun time.
I think this story is set after the patch that allowed everyone to follow a Jedi path, force village thingy.
Two things spoiled the game giving in and letting everyone progress a Jedi so it became nothing more than a Deathknight in WotLk.
When WOW launched and Sony saw the numbers they revamped SWG into a level system. Gone were the amazing diversifying skill trees. I logged in to my Jedi after this patch confused by this new level thing , logged out and sold my account on ebay (back then it was possible before the IP copyright police) .
I mean, the story is partially right, if it was implimented, but the perma death system and the pure bartle system wasn't implimented because of development time constraints.

Also it wasn't purely Sony's fault Lucas Arts wanted the game more star warsy, I believe John Smedley finally apologized on reddit for not pushing back. Everything was fine till the NGE 2 weeks after Trials of Obi-Wan in 2005, the game was fine after patch 14 and the CU, though the village did contribute to development of NGE, so maybe you can claim that. The NGE killed it.
@@kenzoilstrikesback1164 You remember it differently than I. Things were certainly not fine after the CU. It started falling apart in 2004 as they scrambled against WOW;s launch and it got progressively worse. Anyhow "never let the truth get in the way of a good story"

Patch 10 made the game experience its first drop off, the jedi grind was too annoying and they made jedis too powerful with the introduction of lightsaber damage that no one could build armor against. The CU brought player back, they nerfed jedi to be more balanced, but let old broken crystal/pearls (Anti-decay kit veteran reward made it so these broken items never got deleted) remain allowing only certain jedi to be super OP, but that was fine the numbers of player were increasing and everything was fine.
People liked Rage of the Wookiees a lot and Trial of Obi-wan wasn't that far from release.
Trials of Obi-wan had so much promise. People were coming back from WoW in droves, they added more instanced dungeons that people were excited for and running constantly, lava skiffs, lava crystals, new awesome NPC, questlines and the sorts those two weeks before NGE was glorious.
But good things couldn't last, every developer and their mother wanted to reach the 1mil barrier of subscribers that WoW achieved. SWG population was good for a MMO second place to the inconceivable WoW population, but still good.
The NGE dropped like a bad hammer. The players on the test servers cried out! In the little time they got to test it, they knew NGE was bad and was going to kill the game, but SOE didn't listen, Smedley didn't listen. They drop the NGE and now SWG was more then a rotation reactionary combat system, it was the new and improved MMOFPSRPG that no one asked for, everyone dipped from the game.
The game would limp for years after.
It went from 400k players by patch 9, to 150k players by patch 14, to 240k players in the CU to around 10k-30k players in the NGE.
Also a side note, the CU, the answer to WoW, didn't make SWG a level system, they gave the professions level weights and arbitrarily assigned you a level depending on your profession layout, capping at lvl 80. One of the best players was a melee stacked Master Pikeman which was assigned lvl 78 instead of the cap of 80 because the profession lvl weights were wonky.

It was doable though I achieved it even with a full time job. Yes there is lesson to be learnt in having an alpha class that most of the player base will never access. Yes I know about the CU, as I eluded in my original comment. I was all of a sudden a level 80 Jedi which meant nothing to be at that current level of the MMo genre. Coming from UO and AO before , levelling systems were not the norm. I don't know why we are now in wiki mode but I'll leave you to it.

And of course you could grind it with a full time job, you just afk macro your way. The profession grind was less annoying to people that didn't want to play the game. "Hey I want to do combat stuff," nope, got to grind dancer afk for the next week or 2 first while I do other things.
Until patch 10, jedi were alpha but beatable. Lightsaber damage basically made Jedi a requirement instead of a neat side thing. LS damage allowed jedis to take farming spots, yolo situations they weren't able to before and made the force bar an inconvenience, afk in a locked house, instead of a resource to manage in combat engagements.
Sound more like you logged in saw a number and was like "yup, its a leveling game" and also, "damn, no more LS damage" then pawned your account without actually experiencing CU.
You seem to be parroting everything from "How Jedi Killed Star Wars Galaxies" a laughable retelling of Raph Koster's blog, and you're parroting most things wrong in that video.
But whatever " never let the truth get in the way of a good story" right?

Holy shit the first bit of that Jedi story was so embarrasing. Especially the "its a trap, you cant make enough money" combined with "I dont go to the busy planets because they do too much business."
Its like a classic player saying "I dont get it I farm for Black Lotus and Enchanted Arcanite Bars all the time and cant make any money from them?" "Well, the auction house is too chaotic so i just vendor them."
I mean the rest of the story has mental handicap stamped all over it too, so maybe im just too hung up on one thing.
