From someone that has made hundreds- if not thousands- of margaritas, let me help you here:
First off, that’s not a margarita you made; it’s a tequila Daisy. A margarita requires triple sec. The true Margarita calls for tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. A Tommy’s Margarita has the addition of agave nectar.
Now, the best Margarita you will ever have goes like this- Cut yourself a nice lime wheel. Squeeze and drop it into the glass you’re going to use. Swirl it around a bit so the oils from the lime coat the inside of the glass. Now, into the shaker, measure out 2 oz Tequila Blanco (don’t use reposado or añejo, because that is a total waste of money, and certainly don’t use that garbage tequila made by The Rock…), 1 oz lime juice, .5oz Triple Sec (for a richer flavor, create your own 1:1 blend of Cointreau and Triple Sec), and .5 oz sweetener (agave is fine, but a 1:1 simple syrup works just as well). Adding a pinch of salt is good, but making your own 20% saline solution is better (80g water/20g sea salt). Just add 3-4 drops and you’re good (much easier to control and get consistency). Shake this all up with a good hard shake for 10-15 seconds, then *STRAIN* into your glass (for the love of god, don’t dirty-dump your drink straight from the shaker). Top it off with enough ice to fill the glass…and there you have the best damned margarita you’ll ever have.

They basically made a Tommy’s margarita, which is still a margarita, just a variation. Also a tequila daisy is literally a margarita. Margarita is daisy in Spanish. Though traditional daisy cocktails were sours that used liqueurs as sweeteners, no syrups/sugars. As time went on we started adding sugar to modern tastes.

@@DzigaJerkov But it’s not a margarita without orange liqueur. I guess, technically, this is a tequila daiquiri (which is a Daisy variation).

@@eyespy3001 it’s literally called a Tommy’s MARGARITA by the IBA, it’s a variation. It doesn’t include orange liqueur at all. And no, a daiquiri is not a daisy variation, but yes the specs are technically just a sour (daisy came afterwards, switching out the sugar for liqueurs)

I think this video is good. Even my channel has a couple of margarita videos that I think are good too.

To each, their own. Sometimes I'll just put a very small pinch of salt in the shaker before shaking. Very small pinch.
