  • On April 9, 2002 at the Molson Centre, the crowd gave Saku Koivu a nine-minute standing ovation as the captain returned to play after beating cancer.

    I was at that game cheering him on. My dad had passed away a few years prior to this due to cancer so I was especially emotional. This might the most memorable game I have ever attended. I miss Saku...

    I loved the Habs with Saku. You knew the guy was no Matt Sundin but it didn't matter the guy was all heart. Loved him

    i was there, in the reds, cheering saku as loud as i could.
    what a night : saku return and the habs won against ottawa to make the playoffs for the first time in years.

    A man I was working with said "Montreal will not win another Stanley Cup while Saku Koivu is their captain!" That was in the fall of 95, I laughed, but he was right!!

      He isn't around much because he is home in Turku, where he is currently working as the franchise owner of the Finnish Liiga team, Turku TPS.
