On April 9, 2002 at the Molson Centre, the crowd gave Saku Koivu a nine-minute standing ovation as the captain returned to play after beating cancer. SUBSCRIBE: goha.bs/1qHH4pZ
I was at that game cheering him on. My dad had passed away a few years prior to this due to cancer so I was especially emotional. This might the most memorable game I have ever attended. I miss Saku...
i was there, in the reds, cheering saku as loud as i could. what a night : saku return and the habs won against ottawa to make the playoffs for the first time in years.
A man I was working with said "Montreal will not win another Stanley Cup while Saku Koivu is their captain!" That was in the fall of 95, I laughed, but he was right!!
His foundation raised millions for Montreal hospitals but yeah "he must not care about the fans." What do you expect him to do? Walk around high fiving people? His career is over, let the dude live his life without insinuating he's an asshole because he went back to his native country.
goosebumps still to this day…. What an amazing person let alone an amazing player. We miss you Saku ❤

And he predicted the future with Koivu getting captaincy at the start of his rookie season too? That's something.
@@KoRno21 obviously I was mistaken on the year, It had to be 99, but he was still correct.

Too bad we never see him now hanging around..he must not care about the fans anymore
How could he, he doesn't live here anymore.
@@arakafafian Hint: he's got millions of dollars. He can travel from time to time
@@ImNyts Yeah...that explain why we haven't seen him in 20 years
He isn't around much because he is home in Turku, where he is currently working as the franchise owner of the Finnish Liiga team, Turku TPS.
