I get my hands on yet another BMW M legend, the BMW M3 GTS V8. I didn't fully understand this car when it was launched back in 2010, but ten years on after having the opportunity to spend some time behind the wheel, it all starts to make sense.

Sold my 997.1 GT3 RS for the GTS (was based and working in Singapore where there were four rhd) . Over 70 track days in the RS and a similar amount in the GTS. Still own the GTS to this day (mine is number 66), next week it is being shipped back to Australia where I have returned to retire. The best track car I have ever driven. The perfect balance of old and new. For info there were only 135 ever made. And two were white. Of the135 made, 25 were rhd.
This and the LFA will always be my dream cars

As an e92 M3 owner for almost 150k miles in 7 yrs and counting I adore this platform. The GTS and CRT are the Crown Jewels from factory. So happy to see some current lime light is given to the GTS for fans.
I love the traditional orange color on everything bmw, they used that because its it less tiring for your eyes at night.
I want one so badly, what a beautiful car.

How can you not like the classic BMW orange interior illumination? I love the E9x interiors especially without SatNav, it’s a brilliant layout.
Ive only heard people compliment how nice they still look in 2020. He had to find something to complain about but their interior is classic. No big nav systems, last gen of minimal computing tech. I drive an 07 323i and ppl think im driving around in a $25 000 new car.. was $5000 lol 201k km, 170k bought.

I found the slower dct shift speeds on my E92 useful on track in the rain to prevent it spinning the rear wheels on an upshift. And preventing me shitting myself.
Revitt had that same feeling too, until I got the Dinan DCT software upgrade and made a massive difference.

I had an M3 E92 comp pack great cars
I have been daily driving one for 6 years now. Just passed 100.000 km. Still love it to bits. Only time I hate it, is when I am the petrol station!

If I won the lottery, one of the first cars I'd buy (or try to buy) would be the E90 M3 CRT which is basically this GTS in saloon form.
Great video. I had no idea how rare these are, 1 of 9 is quite incredible. So you've gone from the 6 cyl of the E46 M3 CLS to this V8 , the natural progression would be to have a nice and a bit nostalgic drive of a V10 (m5 or m6) an engine we'll most probably never see or hear again in new cars.

Joe thanks for this vid, it took me down memory lane! The e92 for me is arguably the best looking M3 ever (yeah I know the e46 guys will come for me). It still hasn't dated despite being many years old. I've had the opportunity to own the South African equivalent, the M3 Frozen Edition which had AC Schnitzer bits (BMW SA did not get a GTS allocation so they partnered with AC Schnitzer to make 25 examples of the Frozen as a response). That car scarred me for life (in a good way), I have not been the same man since. There was a certain magic about that car that words can never explain. It is the reason i have never been able to bond with the F8x generation. That screaming high revving v8 is truly something else, you feel it in your chest, you sang it in your mind long after you've parked the car. Neighbours, dogs, and other cars' alarms hate the cold starts. Joggers take cover with a single loud downshift 😭. I had to reluctantly sell at some point, but have been looking for one since. I just cannot seem to move on.
Hope you find one, I'm in Pretoria and looking to find a low milage e90 M3 sedan lci soon as I sort my finances...

Jack njones yeah 20k wont get all that . But upgraded 4.4l yes . There is 1 in our group upgraded 4.6L supercharged
what about buy M3 E92 for 20k and spend 155k on mods, better monster than GT3 RS

What the fucking hell are you talking about. The GTS DCT has a slightly bigger pan for increased fluid capacity, and an extra cooler, along with a tune. Nothing strengthened about it.
You don’t need a supercharged car to chase GT3s, a properly tuned stroker 4.6 with schrick cams puts down over 500wph.
You’ll be chasing 991.2 RS with that power.
What a stunning car!! You need to do more of these modern classic videos, that is if you can get your hands on them.

I think only the M3 E46 CSL edge's it for "Want one" factor.
The vast difference in your emotions between this and the CSL kinda prove the point about road cars. Too much power is pointless, fully usable power is sublime. Well done..and nice editing.
Brakes are the Brembo GT kit, interesting to hear your thoughts on them. I've seem a few m3 GTS at the ring, they look right at home.

Oh. My. God. Dream car. That and the CRT. I would take this any day of the week and twice on Sunday’s over an M4 GTS.
There’s a couple cool hidden functions in the car- you can be in 7th gear cruising and you hold the downshift pedal and put your foot to the floor and it’ll instantly change into the lowest gear possible.
Also there’s a hidden sixth setting (you mentioned the standard 5 levels of shift speed) fastest gear shift change mode
Best car ever. If your buying one, get on that’s had the throttle actuators dome or budget for them to go cause they always go.

The issue I have with this car and somehow this doesn't apply to the e46 csl mainly due to your aforementioned price increase over the original e92. It just feels like the car is for the track, which means you are far better off with a regular e92 and spending some money on properly sorted suspension, brakes, safety equip, even tune up the engine if that's what you want. You are left with probably a faster car than the GTS with money in your pocket for trackdays and nurburgring excursions.

The E92 M3 is my favorite version. In my opinion BMW reached the peak with Bangle. In fact, I sold my 2016 M2 to buy the M2 CS... but in the end I went for a 2012 1M with just 2400 miles... and paid as new. Anyway thanks for your video 👍

But it’s really funny that some one coming from a 2 Series Say’s the Interieur quality of the E9x series is bad 😂. I mean the 2 series including the M2 and even the next gen 3series (f30) uses much more cheap materials and do not deal near as solid as the E9x series !
There was/is someone who owns one of these GTS in Frome (Froome), Somerset. It is on an 11 plate. Can't miss it in bright orange with the black wing. Cheddar Close off Brunel Way. Not lived there since 2014 but I very much bet they still have it.

great video just one point. if you can afford one of these cars you would not care if it did 10 mpg I have a stage 1 335d and that is in the low 20 mpg when you are on it.and I love it.

Most underrated car BMW has ever produced. I remember people on pistonheads laughing at the price and I challenged them to build their own cheaper, you couldn't. Very special car when you examine the engineering, not the numbers on paper.
Edit: I just looked at the number it was built for and it just beat the 997.1 gt3 rs, in the hands of the same driver, around the Nordschleife so it was a rival for the Porsche.
I recall (Harris possibly and a few other TV Journos) comparing it with the GT3 (perhaps RS) of the time and if memory serves right the Porsche was a lot better on track and cost the same or less...somet like that

Cool video, and I've been on some of those roads, nice roads :D. Btw, you've got the figure wrong for the M3s weight. If the GTS is 70 kg lighter than the regular M3, that makes it 1530 kg DIN kerb weight, not ~1600.

Joe demonstrates, once more, he is a great car reviewer. It is a perfect video to watch, listen, and enjoy.
Compared to the e46 M3 CSL's video, I felt less enthusiasm from Joe in this one. It was a bit more "clinical" which I think makes sense. If I were to pick one, I'd go for the CSL even if the GTS is a better car everywhere it matters.

Strangely here in Brazil this colour (or very very similar) is a factory colour option I believe. Doesn't need to be a GTS version. I have seen many standard M3's with this colour.

Even in the normal E92 M3, this is one of the great modern engines. I had a few days in one last year, and the sound when you downshifted and then gave it some wellie was glorious! Don’t make ‘em like that anymore ...

@Jon E E92 fanboys always make me laugh when they say "E92 is the best M3 ever" while BMW has always been known for their inline 6s.

Just looks like a pure drive, hydraulic steering, n/a engine, drive to the rear. Simplistic but beautiful driving, I’d take this over an f80 CS all day long.
