I thought it would be nice to give something to all my N&W 611 'J' class fans. Footage: SteamTrainVideo, Greg Scholl, Norfolk & Western, and Norfolk Southern. Song: The Ballad of 611
I heard both N&W 611 and 475 are sitting in the Sawenhalve Scrap Yard and they will sell to Romania or Ukraine. Is that true? I should restore them and run it on the Holy Horseshoe Curve! This beautifull locomotives are Pride Of America ,N&W, the Holy Horseshoe Curve ,and the whole world!!! Run them on the main lines and the Holy Horseshoe Curve and pull express trains!!!
She's the pride of the N&W and she rolls again today! The mightiest steam train ever built, the 611 class J!! I saw her in active and even blew her whistle!!!!!

And impossible to get in trainz (and by that I mean getting it for free in the content thing. Also it’s even harder to get it if you don’t have stable internet connection, or if you have low battery.)
I've always thought 611s whistle almost sounds like a cry, almost as if she's still morning her 13 lost sisters. its sad that she's all that's left of N&Ws streamliners, and almost all that's left of American Streamliners in general
The N&W was the king of steam locomotives, their whistles on their steam locomotives were the best. The N&W designed & built the vast majority of their own steam locomotives. The J class 4-8-4 number 611 of the Norfolk & Western, the GS4 4-8-4 number 4449 the Southern Pacific Daylight locomotive and the cab forward AC12 number 4294 of the Southern Pacific which is a -2-8-8-4 are my 3 most favorite steam locomotives.
I think you meant to say 4-8-8-2 that’s the wheel arrangement of a cab forward locomotive a 2-8-8-4 would be a Yellowstone class although the Southern Pacific had their own class of Yellowstone classified as AC-9 locomotives and they were built by the lima locomotive works and featured skyline streamlining much like the GS Class 4-8-4s
1:28 mark shows it pulling out of the old Steam Shop at Norris Yard in Irondale, Alabama. That's where the Southern Railway used to refurbish steam engines for their steam program. I used to ride out there with my father in Saturdays to walk around and talk to the crew. Carhan was one of the names. I remember. The C&O 2716 was out there too, though always mothballed with firebox problems. This was the early 1980s. Great stuff!
Being from VA,even more close to where it was built,I'm proud of the trash town today. Roanoke is creme riddled today. The 611 makes me proud as a Virginian
Why couldn't I been alive in the 50s I would have loved to see this train when it was running as a full-time passenger train that would have been beautiful to see
Fun fact: 611 was involved in two separate accidents, one of which resulted in the engine on its side down the embankment, and the fireman sadly passed away in the incident.
I’m a fan of American and British steam. So I’ll say this, she’s not the finest, but I’ll definitely put her up there with the British A4 class steam locomotives.
I love the classic diesels when they're were so many different railroads now it's just all gevos, sd40s and gp38s but streamline steam will always be superior
"She's the pride of the N&W and she rolls again today, Oh she's the finest steam train never built, The 611 class J!"

The 611 class J is a great steam locomotive and hard to build in Minecraft
This is another amazing locomotive.

Nice! I hope that #611 operates in 2019.
i can proove to you that she does
2 years later the 611 is running lol
I have rode behind that locomotive at Strasburg in September 5th 2021. Norfolk & Western 475 was also in operation on the same day.
@@nc_railfilms2533 the locomotive was restored over 20 years ago pal, so she's been running even longer than that ;p

I reckon she could still top out her top speed. What do you think?
only 2 others left i think, southern pacific 4449 and c&o 490, sp 4460 might count but that one is only half streamlined
@@lian3101 4460 has the same streamlining as 4449, soooooo

I hold a lot of nostalgia for this engine alone, even if I never saw the real one in person.

One of my favorites!
I have always loved N&W 611 especially the bullet nosed streamlining.
Yeah the bullet nose streamlining looks cool especially the sliding nose streamlining like. NYC "Mercury" Or NYC "Commodore Vanderbilt"
Reminds me of a bullet bill from Mario games somewhat
No train could ever pull that hill like the 611 class J!

Interesting fact she received a full rebuild after that roll over. If it wasn't for that she might have ended up scrapped like her sisters.
Hail to the queen of steam

That’s awesome and I like the song too
Long live the Queen of Roanoke
