Then, fate resulted in the loss of that person. There is then sadness for the loss, but also gratefulness for the time spent together.

But somewhere in the background there is the thought that things can no longer get better, but at most maybe at some point and - probably somehow almost inevitably - can get worse. As a rather introverted person, this makes Diana - despite her gratitude for the great love (and possibly the greatest love of her life) - a bit thoughtful, insecure, anxious, sad, melancholic. No, not melancholic, the better word is "wistful" as you use it. That's how I perceive her singing, that's how I interpret it together with the lyrics. Diana conveys that to me with the way she sings the song. And yes: I am aware that Diana herself did not write these lyrics. But I'm assuming Brandon wrote them personally tailored for Diana. The 2 lines don't match properly: 0:29 "Maybe I've been waiting for you all my life" 0:34 "Maybe I was saving my heart for you" (Times refer to the original video) I understand it even better in the German translation. Basically, I don't believe that the whole song is really biographical, but merely describes a fictitious life situation as it could be - just psychological "stuff". And Diana also tends towards such deeper, more thoughtful psychological themes in her own writing. But of course, Diana can also draw her emotions from her connection to her mother to dive into this song. A lot will fit then. Immediately after the song was pre-released without lyrics (in the middle of the deep night here in Germany), I listened to the song on a loop for almost 2 hours. But I couldn't find any proper access to the song. It was only after reading the lyrics and some comments and seeing some reactions to it that the song became clear to me. In a way, the song blossomed. The song grows more and more for me the more I listen to it - and I listen to the song a lot. Well, my remarks got a bit long-winded, I'm sorry.
