    My history professor, in Houston, Texas, her uncle was one of the men executed. Camp Logan was a Buffalo Soldier base, and if you’re ever in Houston please go to the Buffalo Soldier Museum. Sadly, the City Of Houston has yet to reconcile or even significantly deal with these events as it is nasty history they do not want to visit. Also, Kamp Logan is now Memorial Park located off of Woodway 610. You can take a guided tour into the woods where the foundations for the barracks still exist.

    You did a great job compiling this story. I have been doing research on the Houston riots of 1917 for a college research essay I'm going to turn in and you found about everything I have. I was wondering where you got your pictures from? I'd like to use three of them but without references, I can't. Do you remember the sources for them? Thanks.

    • @somewhatinformed1208
      @somewhatinformed1208 Před 3 lety +3

      You could Source them to "One Mike history" with the belief they or he used them because they weren't copyrighted. Sounds like colleges only want material they can copyright or that's already been copyrighted. Curious how that was worded and if it was in writing.

    • @Tony-tn2dj
      @Tony-tn2dj Před 3 lety +6

      Your point is valid. While researching this epic story, I found that most materials were used by a lot of other authors. When doing essays and research papers we cannot use informational material, either quoted or inferred without, citing it to someone. To do so will be a flunk. I didn't use any of your material for reference, though now I see I could have by citing "On Mike History" as you said. But I did appreciate the work you put into this video. It was very good. By the way, I received an A on my paper for this story and this fall it is eligible for two honors presentations.

    My Father once explained to me that Blacks were beat up in the South during WW11 whenever they wore their military uniforms! My Dad escaped such beatings due to the fact he passed for White. So sad. I did 25 yrs in the Navy from 1975-2000! My Son is presently on active duty as a U.S. Navy Service Member. It stuns me just to think how minorities were treated in our Nations history. This is extremely troubling for those defending the Nation too!!

      From what I understand having compared the film with the actual events, I think the film ‘scaled things down’ probably due to budgetary reasons. Houston which is a city of over 2 million people today seemed more a small town with a few dozen deputies in the film. In reality it looks like Houston police had several hundred officers and militia to call on, while the mutineers numbered less then 150. I think they were still planning match on the police station holding officer Sparks when they realised they’d killed a National Guard captain, and that was what broke their resolve.

    Great video. They were moved to Ft Sam Houston cemetery. Not far from the original site. Two were turned over to the families. I read each soldier had a soda bottle with just his last name. They had only been at Camp Logan for a little over a month when this happened. The abuse must have been bad. Mexican Americans weren’t treated much better during this period. Maybe some time I’ll post my Dad’s story from when he was in the Air Corps in the early 1950s.
