I would love to see reto experience this game fully with his experience of platformer roguelikes. Although I don't believe he liked RoR 2 very much, hopefully he enjoys this one enough to at least make a mini series.
They’re very different, the main constant is the need for fast progression, which means full clearing is not ideal in most situations since the enemies will outscale you quickly. Would love to have a series on this from reto
So, the reason why the 'auto-aim' feels bad is because the aiming system in this game is direction-based, meaning you shoot in the direction you're moving. Huntress is different from other survivors in the game in the way that she also has a sort of proximity-based targeting, which can let you run in one direction while shooting the enemies behind you. the big thing is the enemies need to be on the same level as your character

And yeah, RoR 1 is really about understanding how to approach different enemy patterns with what you've got. And some enemies you just need to dodge (overloading magma worms for example are terrifying).
Drone repair kit also gives you a drone. Worth using once and then dropping if you don't want to keep it.

soldier shooting his skill backwards is because theres another enemy on the other side, so hes kinda covers both sides, thats pretty much what i can tell

The 2D Art goes so damn hard, these maps look gorgeous.
A Series of this would be really cool ! The Game is so much fun after you learn a character and the movement later on.

I love this game, played this one for like 10 hours straight trying to win once, eventually got it. really hope this becomes at least a mini series.
That first death was caused by the three or so elite sand crabs that spawned with the boss lmao, that’s why you never want to stand still in this game at any point
I played ror1 a lot with friends before ror2 came out, and we had this thing where, if we see a crowbar, we take it. by the end of runs where we loop we'd be having upwards of 100+ crowbars (thanks 56 leaf clover) and instakilling everything.
He did pretty good for a first run, not having played the previous games. Couple pro tips:
-You can zoom out in the options so the teleporters are easier to find. (People complained the first game everything was too small)
-don't stand on top of enemies, you will die very fast. If you've got a feather you can just jump when you see them charge an attack.
-ideal strategy is to spend about 5-7 minutes on the early levels. Find teleporter first then collect items after. Other strats are very possible, but this is the one most people find easiest.
-acrid and huntress are the two most new player friendly survivors in the game and are good to practise with.
Also try not to waste money on experience
I'm so conficted over Risk of Rain Returns and Roboquest 1.0 coming out at the same time, I want to give my full time to both.
Great video! I'd love a series on this game, as I do love this game. Also you can change the zoom scale if you feel like your character is to tiny.
How did this not become a series
Quick tips for you that might prove useful, although keep in mind I only played the original and RoR2.
SPEED: Be fast. I generally aim to be out of the first level no later than 4 minutes, 3 minutes is good. IE, find the portal ASAP, don't hoard.
ELITES: They give you more cash. Focus killing them
BIG CHESTS: Spend your money where you can get better items: Markets(pick one of three items) and big chests especially.
Defeating the boss gives you a free green item, so killing them off fast often times is better than getting yet another bustling fungus.
This game rules. Would be nice to see a few more episodes

Btw it wasn’t the imp overlord that killed you. Right as he teleported to you the crabs (which were kind of obscured by his sprite) hit you, and the crabs deal insane damage.

Ahh, Risk of Rain 1. My first true love when it comes to roguelites.
Back when that first came out, I even made a video series of beating the game on monsoon with each character and got a couple of views.
It's weird how nostalgic this game is for me despite me being an adult already when I played it.
I think you did get that item from the Colossus boss. Looked like it was just another time stopper at low health, though. Nothing amazing.
you can move slightly to the side while shooting, it's a huge difference that wasn't there in risk of rain 2013
number 1 rule for risk of rain is to just keep jumping (small exclusions for acrid acid drop) but mostly jumping avoids a lot of the big dmg , also hunter can run and gun at the same time so shes really beginner friendly whilst learning the game
I’ve been so hyped for this game. I put so many hours into the original. And now I can actually play online with friends.
Same here. My only complain about the og would be the awful netcode, made it hard to play even just with the hubby.
Acrid can be a life saver with the poison pool and such.
He's best with the regen power ips for sure because of the lack of a dodge. But his poison abilities are amazing
Personally i usually go for teleporter a little sooner and spend the remaining time after boss to buy stuff on map.
They are gonna tweak the dodge while firing and directional aiming so u can move in one direction and shoot in another. I recommend playing again after that patch if that bothers u like it does me!!

Hey retro, would love to see more RoRR content. Also, drones are much better in this game than in RoR2, though they're still not great for melee characters.
I would looove a series/mini series on this - maybe getting and playing through the survivors or sth like that?
But an army of drones can be so nice. I def do it in both RoR games
the skins, alternative habilities and some items are retroimported from RoR 2, the topaz broch was a ror 2 item per example

I game on a Steam Deck and my concern is something you brought up, the size of everything is just so....small! Although I do dock to a TV or Monitor regularly so that may just be the way to go with this game. Looks like it would be fun, I think I would enjoy it more than RoR2 just based on the pacing.

This is quite appealing to me.
You'll need to really get used to Huntress' auto-aim. It's proximity-based, so it aims at the nearest enemy YOU CAN HIT. It can be frustrating with bouncing and flying enemies cause when they land or go near the floor, it becomes possible to aim at them. 🤷🏽♂️
For commando's special, it's similar to huntress auto aim. If 2 enemies on opposite sides is possible to hit, then you will shoot at both sides.
Finally, yes, height affects the auto aim. So if you're a step higher or lower, it won't work. Just tons of things you'll need to get used to. Along with the game being very difficult.

I love the original ROR , Bought the second one and hated it. I hated it being 3d it just wasn't the same game anymore.
The 4d version is going to be the best. Jokes aside yeah the 2nd one didn't quite have the same charm but I thought it was decent.
