    For those interested in these, Taschen does include them in their 50% off sales a couple of times a year (there’s one on as I type this, Labour Day weekend, 2024), and they retail for $100. In some cases that’s cheaper than the OOP omnibus editions. 😉

    Patsy Walker would be great.! I'd buy this one.😃 It's awesome to see this stories in this format. Hope they publish, at least, the first 100 stories of these classics.

      I think it will be a long wait for all 100 issues but it would be great to see, assuming that we have Cap America etc to follow. I think a Patsy Walker (Date With Patsy, Patsy And Hedy etc) volume is probably even less likely to happen, sadly, as I would buy that volume. Unless they suddenly release a film with her character !

      Thank you, I don't think I will get the next one. Captain America, apparently, good as they were, I don't really want that one. I didn't realise the FF one was out. It is a lovely volume. Does mean I will be trimming back the FF epic 1. I really wish Marvel would release their SA / GA in this style, though perhaps not oversized, it is a bit excessive (the floor will give way at some point and I will be meeting the Mole Man and Tyrannus)

      I haven't got the omni for that one (but have the epic) so I was happy to buy that volume. The Avengers, the same. The Spidey one I have the omni and the Taschen. Very expensive but quality books. The format is great and they are better probably (and I have no idea) than having a 9.8 (or whatever) FF 1 - 19 anyday, and certainly a lot cheaper

      That is the trouble. I love the volume but there is part of me that wishes they had gone for a slightly smaller (and cheaper) size, it is so heavy to lug around. Omnis are probably getting to the limit as well, Artist editions definitely. I waited for the price to come down a little, the initial £150 was too much but I have seen a little lower, and perhaps it will get to £100 etc as the Spidey one. Taschen books are wonderful but they are very expensive. I have lots of smaller volumes, I hope some of these will start to come out in that format as well

      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  Před rokem

      Not so fussed about an extra issue, though that would be nice, I would have loved those pages being used for more examples of original art pages or unusual sketches (in the epic collection there is a sketch of the early versions of the logo for the Fantastic Four, didn't see that and that page would have been ideal for that front section). Or perhaps cover it with variant covers from around the world that all featured the FF 1 - 19 / annual, surely that would have been a more stunning intro into the book that the red pages (they are a bit of a waste).

    I wish taschen would pay more attention to it's manufacturing process as all the pages in it were stuck together and I had to laboriously go thru each page and separate it from the next as was stuck in one corner

    Thats the best one of the 3 they have done so far, I always thought that the early FF was like the merging of the Atlas monster comics and the Marvel superhero comics, I have not been tempted by the Spider - man or Avengers ones but I am about to order this one, yeah its expensive but a book to marvel at ( excuse the pun ), the box alone is a work of art, I hope they go on to bring the X - men out, that would be another must have for me. thanks for the review and the damage to my bank account lol.

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  Před rokem +1

      Sorry about the damage to the bank account, that is the problem with comic / book collecting. I would have loved the X-Men volume instead of the Captain America one. It would seem a more obvious choice for 2023 (60 years after the first issue). The early X-Men tales are odd though, also they never had an annual so I wonder if they will go for X-Men 1-20 ?
      The FF early issues were definitely a follow on or merging of the Atlas monsters, even to the Thing (and many of those early monsters looked very similar). The first issue always looked like an Atlas comic with the chapters, you could nearly have imagined it like the Amazing Fantasy 15 with the 8 page origin and then the Mole Man tale in the next issue. Even Mole Man / Kurrgo / Puppet Master / Miracle Man etc (Dr Doom even) could easily be Atlas characters but you have those wonderful tales of meeting the FF etc and that would never have happened in those Atlas comics (Meet Roooo, Master of Planet X and how he explains the customs of planet X and how he loves walking down Yancy St or receiving post from his hypnotised slaves / fans etc).
      I loved the image of the masks for the FF, I guess we would have got used to it but I think having no masks was best part. I would have really disliked the costume for the Thing, that would have been plain daft but probably easier to draw for Kirby but glad they dropped that.
      The letters pages are great, still would love to see an omni of all those in one big collection (as well as the checklists)
      I wonder if they will ever get to a volume 2 of the FF Taschen book.

    • @captain_uk
      @captain_uk Před rokem +1

      @@AndrewBuckleBookReviews YES an omnibus of letters pages and checklists would be a must buy, I think there is a good chance of Taschen doing follow up volumes as longs has sales support them, I think like you mentioned in the video there could well be a strong market for a more reduced in size editions at a reduced cost although I think they would have to keep the glossy cover and pulp interior aspect to each issue I think that this is one of the things that makes these editions unique , I wouldent be concerned about losing those red end pages for me they dont serve much of a purpose and losing them would not be a detraction, The early version of the Thing has always been my favourite version of the character , mine is on the way and I must admit I am just as excited by the box.

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  Před rokem +1

      @@captain_uk I agree, a smaller version would need the same paper etc (and red pages could go, I don't see the point of them). I have no idea how many Taschen need to sell to make it a success, I wonder how many of their £1500+ Hockney ones sold ? Must admit I find all the early versions of the character very interesting, Reed etc have all changed since issue 1. I loved the different powers they used to show as well. • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  Před rokem +2

      Not really, they are to be read and looked at and spread across the floor and enjoyed. No intention on selling them or anything. Got loads of books that virtually falling to pieces, that they get a little warped is not too much of an issue. I'm always moving them around and perhaps if I clean up a few of the others, will have a little more space for the ones behind me. That they collapse on me and crush me during a recording, that would be a concern

      Hope you love the book. I think it is excellent, always loved the early FF from first reading them in MWOM, it is great to get all the 'original' comics now in this oversized volume, even if it weighs a ton. The essays were very good but I wish they had included more original art examples, noticed in my Epic collection that there were a number of pages that are not included in the Taschen and as they have a few duff red pages at the front of the book, it pity those pages were not used for original art instead.

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  Před 10 měsíci +1

      No dust jacket unless you count the sturdy box that I have for it. Glad you liked the review. I don't think it would be an easy one for a dust jacket, if it is too large so easy to squish the wrapper even just removing from the book.
      As to the omnibus. I love those but I think the originals are far superior to the omnis and this has the feel of the originals though personally I wish they had gone for the a smaller size and gone for more stories instead of a mega size, it just makes it a pain to pick up. I think there are pros and cons. I think there are many different formats, I am still happy with the essentials in b&w as well as my original UK comics in B&W as well or the Artist editions / artisans in B&W

    • @jonathanpearman1052
      @jonathanpearman1052 Před 10 měsíci

      Quite agree with you regarding the dust jacket issue. I think the Frazetta Taschen had a dust jacket and quite honestly I could have done without it. Thanks for your views on the Omnis v Taschens and I might have to get the Silver Surfer Taschen when it comes out as it will probably trump the Marvel omni. Having said that I'll probably want to get all of them as they look fantastic lined up showing their spine colors! B/W Artist Editions are often a must have as well. Wish they would have a sale...

      I love the reproduction in the Penguin Classics, they are the same as the epic / omni sources but as they are on matt paper, they just look really nice quality. Penguin have done an amazing job with them and I have reviewed them in previous videos
