- Getting the C10 ready for rear disc brakes, using GM D52 calipers and a set of swap CaptainFab 12bolt brackets. A look at some of the parts we're using, and starting teardown.
This setup uses OEM-type GM D52 (fullsize) calipers, 1.25" AstroVan front rotors, CaptainFab brackets, and will plumb into my existing Hydroboost power brake system on my truck. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Daaaayum bro that was 1 of the most step by step best videos I've watched
Great looking Truck! I'm loving all your mods bro!
Just found your channel and I am enjoying it. Keep up the good work
I’ve watched a dozen disc swaps for the front and your the first that mentioned anything about the master cylinder and brake lines.
Good swap here, thanks for showing how its done!
Too bad you couldnt finish part 2. You were doing so well and were very detailed and easy to understand. I just ordered the same kit and will be doing the same swap in about a week.
The install is finished and the video exists, but its a mostly unedited version which has some gaps in it from missing footage over the past summer. I'll put it up eventually, but I don't have much time to edit anymore and the truck is on other phases of the project. My IG has a few more recent updates from the summer which show a little bit more of the disc upgrade.
Got the Wilwood GM III calipers on the front of mine - saved SOOOO much weight for not much money.
Fantastic job on agly car
I would like to do this modification after seeing how hard it is to work on drum brakes
Do you have the brake line replacement video
0. Can you share what set up you have? Thanks!
Will this work on a 1990 model c1500?
You know if chevy Tahoe rear disk brakes would fit a 85 c10? Both have 8.5” 10 bolt rear axles. I’d assume the brakes should bolt no?
Tahoe probably has 6 lugs
For those who view this and see the "what about part 2" comments....its been out a while but some folks might not have found their way over there: czcams.com/video/FIV26fn7VMA/video.html I'm still alive, and believe it or not, there is actually new video being edited. Maybe I'll beat my 1-per-year recent upload habit. :)
Witch brand of wheels and what tire size ???
98 camaro rear complete disks brakes fit, just need a 3 bolt spacer plate.
Wrong bolt pattern
Exactly,, wrong bolt patern,,
why did you disassemble the brakes,4bolts and brake lines and is off all together
What happened to pt.2 of the rear disc swap?
My axles were held hostage at a failing machine shop, and after fighting for a couple months to get them back, they were basically destroyed by a hack machinist. I have everything sitting ready to go, but am waiting on my new set of custom Moser axles before I can finish the install.
@@REVJHD Wow! That really sucks. Sorry to hear it.
Hope to see you back soon.
Part 2???
Thanks for the great vid! Capt Fab does amazing work; knows everything about these trucks. Met him on 67-72chevytruck.com. I ended up welding big ford flanges and buying a kit from RIGHT STUFF. D52 is a great platform to build on
What all did u have to change from the 97 ASTRO? Did the power boost bolt right in or did u have to mod anything?
I modified the bracket that held the booster to the firewall. The astro booster is designed to sit at a slight angle on the van firewall, which would make it point down on the c10. There are brackets that are designed for the swap now, but I just modified the face of the old bracket to remove the angle and sit flat. If I did it again I would either make a bracket from scratch, or buy one (mine works fine just isn't a pretty as it should be). I'm using the booster and master from the Astro, with the Wilwood D52's in front, stock d52s out back, a manual prop valve, and custom NiCo lines.
Cool
Hey this is very interesting, I have a QUESTION, I have a 70, 3 door suburban that is a 4x4 and I am going to Switch the Axles so I have Disc Brakes, " Drum Brakes Now", It does not have a Booster, will I need to add a Booster and a Diff Pro Valve? I have switched Axles on trucks before But Not one such as this one with Drums on front and NO Booster? I just want it done the right way.. IF ANY ONE CAN HELP! Thanks!!
You can still run non-power brakes with front disc (my truck ran that way for a few years), just swap the prop valve so it doesn't lock the rear right away. With the correct non-power master cylinder, it will stop fine. If your using the master cylinder off a power-brakes truck, it will feel a bit low on stopping power (the piston/plunger on the power brake trucks has a different diameter).
@@REVJHD Ok Thanks SO Much, I also have a 2 wheel drive 69 3dr I am using for parts,, which has Disc on front, and it does have the Power Booster, But it looks like someone put it on there, and sure doesnt look like it is suppose to be there, so i did not want to use it, I will switch the Porp Valve once I get the axles switched! Thanks ALOT!!
I like cos you body's stick items manufactured
Does this swap compatible with civilian chevy caprice 92 sedan?
The brackets only fit 12 bolt truck housings.
What vehicle has D52 calipers from the factory? Are those Wilwood brake calipers in the front straight bolt on??
A huge number of GM cars and trucks, it was the primary default caliper for most of the full-frame car era in the early 70's into the 90's. C10s, Caddy Eldorado's and others. The wilwoods bolt on the existing D52 bracketry, and will fit 15" + wheels (close fit on some 15's).
Captainfab! Guys can use the old 76-78 Eldorado rear caliper if they want e-brake. Cheaper alternative is a brake line lock.
REV J where did u order ur parts from because I couldn't find a captainfab website to order brackets and other parts??
He doesn't have a website, he's just a dude who builds C10 swap parts in his free hours at the machine shop, from what I remember. I've known him for a while, but the best way to find his stuff is to head over to the 67-72chevytrucks forums, and search his username. He's got ~15 products
@@REVJHD look thanks can u see his products on the forms? Idk anything about forms.
Did the system work?
might not be seeing it but do you have part number for the bracket kit?
I was gonna say no, but I just discovered that CaptainFab actually has a website now (sort of). CustomFab-CDA he has the kit listed on the front page "D52 Rear Disc Brackets"
@@REVJHD thanks
How did you connect the E-brake?
E-brakes are for quitters.
@@REVJHD and your a fool not to have one! Better hope you don't have to have inspected, you would fail, then have to park it till you set up an E-brake. Willwood makes a kit to do just that, yes a few bucks but what is your life worth? Or there are GM rear calipers that have an E-brake that would bolt onto the brackets you are using.
E-brakes are for quitters? Yeah right! The E-brake was the ONLY way that I was able to stop my vehicle while doing 45 in traffic. I'm keeping my E-brakes.
I have the capt. Fab brackets and Gm calibers with e-brake , can’t get the 1.25 rotor to fit.Is there a 1 inch rotor with the big top hat that will work
wait what happen no update video yet?
Winter, job change, and waiting for axles to be redrilled for oversize studs. I'll have the completion video and other updates on the truck a little further into spring. :)
Where did you get the brackets?
CaptainFab. I don't have any current contact for him but I believe he still sells on the chevy truck forums and a few other places.
Is this a cheaper then buying a kit I see kits are about 400 to 800 depending on what u want and just the brackets I see are going from 100 to 200
It was def. cheaper for me in this case, since I already had the D52 calipers from the front of the truck. I only had to buy the bracket, rotors, and hoses.
Will this work on a 80s c10 with a 10 bolt rear end?
79-87 truck 10bolts iirc
Idea: add hubcentric rings or be more careful during whee installation- will receive vibration at high speed
