Retired boat mechanic here. For gas or small diesel engines, I used the manual suck pump to get fluids out. Cleanest way to get oil out of a boat engine.
All Mercruiser and Volvo gas engines are GM blocks, and they do come with oil pan plugs. There's just no way to get to those plugs so we stick the skinny straw down the dip stick tube to get the oil.
Bigger more expensive boats have powered oil extractors for oil and transmissions. Those engines can hold a lot of oil, measuring in gallons.
    Have fun 👍

I was all with you until you mentioned the manual harbor freight pump because that thing is absolute garbage and now I understand that this is simply just an advertisement for it.. I've bought two of them and couldn't even get an oil change out of them but you can't return them because they got oil in them

You do realize most cars only need 5 quarts of oil for an oil change right? So even the cheapest one, you might be able to get two oil changes out of it. Your math is really off boss man

All from the top. You only need to go under to change the filter unless it’s accessible from the top. It’s a great time saver. No more damaged drain plugs, pita undertrays or jacks to mess around with
