Renegade is still in my personal top 10. I’m very blessed to have this amazing ride at my home park! And I know it’s getting rough but I’ve rode it so many times that I pretty much don’t feel the roughness anymore😂
As a ride operator, retractable seatbelts are often used because they help speed up operations. Retractable seatbelts do not need to be fastened and checked for empty seats whereas traditional ones do
gotcha, makes sense!
Why not just have a lap bar and nothing else?
@@aspeyal8239cedar fair usually takes extra steps to add seatbelts on all of their rides
@@aspeyal8239 helps with avoiding obese people falling out, or another way to check it i guess
@@aspeyal8239agree, seatbelts are stupid
Looks like the most underrated GCI 🔥
This must be the first knew coaster review in a while (not counting re-reviews).
I’ve been on all the major GCIs in the U.S. and Europe, and for me Renegade is the best.
Spot on review, loved the bit where you showed the map with the distance from your place to Valleyfair🤣 definitely worth it. I agree it's one of GCI's finest works today, the bumpiness is real but not terrible, at least when I rode it in 2016, heard it's gotten rougher since then
yeah this past year in 2021. it wasn’t too rough and very tolerable, but it was definitely noticeable.
The gade. Love the pop over the road. Don't forget about Renegade Mike. Legend.
I love this ride so much. I'm obsessed with it.
Renegade shocked me. When I rode renegade I heard from a lot of people that it was a hidden gem GCI, and I totally agree. in my opinion, I think renegade is the best GCI, better than mystic timbers. I wonder why not that many people ride this ride, I really loved it!
I've noticed that Maverick and Renegade both opened the same year and that their logos are very similar. They both have the same font and have the letters going big to small to big. Maybe Renegade is supposed to be Blackjack in the Cedar Fair lore since Blackjack is Maverick's brother but I could just be overthinking it.
Couldn’t agree more. The roughness really only adds to the intensity which I love. Great review Taylor!
I live 10 minutes from valleyfair and got to ride on renegade when it first started operating. I immediately loved it. At first a bit skeptical because Excalibur in my eyes was a painful Rollercoaster and usually left me with headaches and a neck that probably could've used 3 weeks straight of chiropractic work. Anything that didn't look like Wild Thing or Corkscrew, I was hesitant. Renegade became my all time favorite at Valleyfair. Sadly I haven't been there for a few years, so I can't say if it rides differently from what I remember. I just knew it was a smooth experience that had so much chaos to it, I never wanted it to end
Rode Renegade at the Halloween Haunt back in October. Fantastic ride.
Python in Bamboo Forest in China is another GCI with the s-bend drop :) great review as always taylor!
DAMN A 17 HR DRIVE FROM VIRGINIA TO MINNESOTA~~
I just rode Renegade today and was blown away by it. Excellent GCI caught me off guard a bit actually. Love it.
Love Renegade. It was butter when it was new, and fittingly the lines for it extended past the entrance and into the food court back then.
Also next time you're in MN definitely visit the aquarium in MOA. Has a walkthrough tunnel to see the sharks, and also a stingray petting pond.
Very entertaining and fun to watch. Thanks for posting this.
Rode this at valleyscare this year. Still has it and then some. 2007 I rode and several years after with a decade pause. Wow and riding at night is amazing.
I remember when it first open it was my favorite woodie at the time. Especially for how smooth it was.
I'd personally give it an 8/10, but it's a great ride nonetheless. I might actually be moving to the area next year, so Valley Fair might become my local park. I love it. VF is one of my all time favorite small parks.
Fun fact: Renegade is Cedar Fair's first GCI ever built.
Yeah Valleyfair used to be the test park. First to get Morgan hyper, intamin impulse, xtreme swing, Larson loop. Also one of the tallest power towers (even has cedar points by 10 ft)
This is my home park. My friends and I unironically call Valleyfair "Renegade Park". That's my review of Valleyfair, and this coaster.
It must have been running a bit slow, that "weak" hill I remember giving some pretty good air in the back.
As it stands Renegade is the best wooden coaster I've been on and the 3rd best overall behind Mind Bender at SFoG (#1) and Goliath at SFoG (#2).
I really hope you get to make it to Playland Vancouver and try out Coaster, but they're also planning a huge expansion if you havent checked it out with like 3 new coasters planned.
I always get good floater over the road. It’s my favorite part of the ride.
I love this Ride it’s one of my favorites at Valley fair even tho I’ve never been on it but I will be going on it soon because I believe I should go on it
Rode it 4 times yesterday, it was flying! The airtime hill over the road that you didn't get air on gave me great floater in the front row! It was unquestionably a front row coaster for me. We got it front row at night and it was EPIC.
that first drop in the front is the best
I think it looks really cool!
The hill going over the hill is usually a little slower than the rest of the ride. But it offers a nice breather before you go flying again
My favorite coaster at Valleyfair BUT, if you do do a night ride in the summer, make sure to keep your mouth closed. Unless your hungry, then you get to feast on a Minnesota fav. Mosquitos!!! :)
Love it
I’ve had the privilege of riding 2 GCIs, InvadR and Gwazi. Between the two I prefer Gwazi because of the sheer size of it, but InvadR because the ride doesn’t jackhammer you like Gwazi did. Out of all the woodies I’ve been on my favorite woodie (and current favorite of all operational coasters) is Swamp Fox in Myrtle beach. Also known as the phoenix of the south. It’s a hot take because I’ve been on Twisted Timbers and I prefer Swamp Fox over TT.
love those padded seats especially on prowler get tossed around alot on these
4:08 Cedar Fair likes putting retractable seatbelts on many of their roller coasters, it's not just a Valleyfair thing. All the B&M hypers and gigas in the chain have them too. The only woodies in the chain that I know don't have them are Thunderhawk and Mystic Timbers.
Same goes for TT, it has the retractable seat belts, there’s just not a box on the outside because it was designed with it.
I rode this for the first time when it opened at night. Very dark, scary, fast and fun. Could barely see where we were going. It USED to be smooth but now it's a bit rough. Still love the ride though. It used to have the regular belts instead of the retractable ones and those airtime hills used to and still sometimes are insane.

Renegade 🎶
Looks like a good ride
Renegade is very much the best coaster at Valleyfair
Easily the best roller coaster in all of Minnesota, and definitely one of the best wooden coasters in North America.
I might put SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS ROCK BOTTOM PLUNGE (I know stupid Nickelodeon names) as the best because I prefer inverted coasters and VF only has 1! But yeah Renegade is great. I tell people it's a non-stop action coaster.
Thanks for highlighting this great park, Great content as always. If you get the chance for a night ride on Renegade, it’s a whole new ride. One of the best night rides I’ve done. Having this as my home park, in your opinion what would the best fit for a new Coaster be at ValleyFair?
even better at night during valley scare
This is in my Top 5-10 US bucket list coasters. I am a huge fan of GoldStriker and this one looks like it could challenge GoldStriker as my favorite GCI or at least come in third behind Mystic Timbers.
Valley Fair is the closest major park to where I live (the worst major city to live in as a Theme Park Fan...Winnipeg! (which is otherwise an awesome city)), so I have pseudo hometown bias for Renegade, but it's an awesome coaster, and so far the best GCI I've ridden and in the top 5 for woodies in general.
Favorite coaster at Valleyfair. I lost my voice after going on it the second time!
Renegade sounds like a super underrated GCI roller coaster!
1:01 Slide to the right… slide to the left. CRISS CROSS!!
That last hill seemed pretty good when I was there, it’s not quite ejector but it is some ok floater but I do agree the other hills are better
Had you done a music video of this ride, I imagine you incorporating the Styx song of the same name!
Renegade was named after the Styx song, of the same name!
It’s on my short bucket list of wooden coasters left in the US!
this one and hades 360 in wisc dells
@@ryanennis3199 renegade ended up being good, but nothing insane. Hades tho is absolutely amazing! Top 20 coaster for me
You should do a re review on Cedar Point, since it’s changed so much since your first review!
The hill over the road is higher than it would otherwise be to clear the road and does mess up the pacing a bit. It is a great ride though. I was on this a lot when it first opened. It was smoother but I think it has more air now. Hard to be sure. I might have just been more negative on it then.
i wouldnt want it to be, but imagine what RMC could do to this kind of layout
Shockingly when Renegade first opened it was rougher than Excalibur and high roller put together
That airtime hill over the road is the result of limitations in its environment. Its limited on the entry by the lift hill, has to clear the road, and also the building that it banks right to avoid. They did the best they could with a bad hand.
Will u be doing a Wild Thing review at some point?
Probs not. Wild thing isn’t that great, the only thing going for it is the first hill and the last run. And they killed the last run of hills with mega trims. He wasn’t wowed so why would he
yes, coming out very soon
@@waffles6323 looks like U were proved wrong
@@coasterboss1654 guess so. Very happy about it since it’s my homepark and I love all of the coasters to bits.
It be nice if G.C.I went with old school buzz bars I don't care how great a new wood coaster is I take a buzz bar lap bar any day of the week
I went there in 2019 I believe. The last two years have been crazy and I wonder why🧐. I did not even research the coasters other than I know they had a Morgan. This blew me a way. Mystic Timbers is slightly better but I think it’s better than Gold Striker (Barely) and Thunderhead.
Bro if I’m driving 17 hours for a amusement park ima going to universal. 💀
A hidden gem-if this coaster was located in a more-visited-by -enthusiasts park it would sky rocket up many best coaster lists. My favorite GCI!
This was my 100th roller coaster and I asked my fiancé to marry me right after we got off!
Behemoth review soon?
I got to marathon this 40+ times...oddly, row 3 left seat is has best ejector...especially going into bank turns.
I normally like last row best, but this one is a little rough and not as good as row 3...
What’s your top 3 coasters at ValleyFair?
You should do a excalibur review
Renegade has always been a rough coaster. That's part of the ride! It makes it feel faster than it is and more extreme. Everyone I know like's Renegade the best because of how rough it is.
Renegade is a great ride. Currently, I rate it just behind Thunderhead, which has a stronger and more relentless layout but Renegade is more smooth. I find the drop too small for that S-curve, feeling awkward and indecisive. It is fun and full of floater air that creates a feeling of twisting and bounding from airtime hill to airtime hill, like some crazy moon walk. I'm always puzzled why people claim "ejector" air when GCI trains and tracks are not designed to such forces. It's floater, and it's hella fun.
Imagine getting a night ride on this thing.
I've done that, and boy is it amazing.
Are you also reviewing the other coasters here like Wild Thing and Excalibur?
Wild Thing will be getting a review, Excalibur will not
@@CoasterStudios excalibur was a disappointment. I remember when it opened in late 80s
second btw you have the best content!
when i hear that title i instantly think of the tiktok dance
That’s not a good thing.
@@quix9556 ik
This is how I got back pain☹️
Can’t you just unbuckle the seatbelt for better airtime?
You rode it at the wrong time. That airtime hill over the road is usually the second best hill after the first speed hill. I usually get a good 3 seconds of air
Every element feeling the same could be said about rmc
This or Goldstriker?
Gold Striker
Fun fact renegade has no straight drops all are curved or banked
Bro the subtitles on this video are broken 🤣
I actually think Wild Thing is better
All the coasters at Valleyfair used to have the standard adjustable seat belts, they were replaced with the retractable ones to speed up operations.
