Great question, YKOP 13. To become an Army Sapper, you must graduate from the Sapper Leader Course, which is open to:
👉 Soldiers (grades E-4 and above)
👉 Cadets
👉 Officers (rank O-3 and below)

Sapper slots exist, but are rare for 12N. 12B is the way to go if you want to be a Sapper.
