That was a kick ass video mav !!! I'm a pike spearing fisherman, I live in metro Detroit and have been spearing for 40years . I love being able to see fish come in and watch them . Never did any kind of camping though. You guys nailed it in every bit of this video!! Thanks man !! KEEP ON TRUCKIN TO 2 MILLON !!

Thank you, Mav for trying to be conscious of damage to a fish. When I was young, my dad and his old roommate and best friend took me, my brother, and his two daughters fishing on some old family property probably 15-18 years ago, and I still vividly remember them pulling the fish out, posing for photos, checking them, etc all while the fish bled from it's gills. When they tossed it back, it didn't move. They had suffocated it because they didn't pay attention. While I'm not personally fond of fish, I hate to see a life needlessly wasted.

Helmet Mav, helmet! They are so warm you won’t regret it. Also, you never know when you’re going to catch a branch in the melon. Just make sure you talk to someone who knows how to fit one properly. The best ones are not cheap but they are light, comfortable and warm. You’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.
Also, we lose the most heat from our heads. Keeping your dome warm is a sub perk you get with main perk being safety.

Thank you. I was wondering if anyone was going to say anything. I've lost 3 friends in my lifetime (the last just being a week ago) to snowmobiling accidents. Do not "pitty"me... Just be safe out there and wear the proper gear everyone. x

Hey Mac next time try some dry white beans down the hole they help a number of ways. #1 the flash of white will attract neighboring fish #2 it gives you a white bottom to see the fish better #3 after about 24 hrs the beans will hydrate and act as a chum. I was taught this from a old timer back when I was a young man in the 70’s
Just so ya know. It is illegal in most States now. ;) And…..beans can kill off fish.

@@AwesomeBlackDude not sure what he uses.but we use the camp chef Teton 2x camp stove and a random assortment of dishes. The main set it a Stanley camping set and then the cast iron is Lodge brand

Coming from a person from Miami.. your videos are VERY entertaining from truck camping to literally camping in the ice..I personally can't imagine lol..you're pretty dope dude. I love you're channel..it's like a mixture of things I wanna try to things I can never try 💪🏽💪🏽
Here is my thought process, bear with me. When I first started watching Mav, I fell in love with the channel because of the low tech, bare minimum camping and cooking. Nothing flashy, ya know? As his channel grows, he's making that CZcams money, and can afford to splurge on newer vehicles and tech. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE it, But it's kinda evolving the channel into something new. Which, again, I still LOVE, but that also means the old feels I got are not really there as much as they were before.
My suggestion: Every so often, Mav should do a "Roughin' It" video where he goes back to how it was when he first started. No frills. I would really enjoy that. Anyone else, or am I just an old man complaining about change?

Mav disappointed me in his choice of sleds. If you had a real sled, not just a trail, sissy sled, you’d make it anywhere you wanted. Get something with like a 2.25” track, not a 1”.

Haha yes my F-150 is the same year as Mav’s and it has been in the shop way too much. It seemed like a good idea to live out the back of it when I bought it but it has cost more in repairs so far than I would have guessed. Mav picked a good one it seems!

You should check out submersible fishing lights. Down here at the gulf coast we use them at night and it’s one of my favorite times to fish. It attracts all the bait fish and bigger fish plus it’s cool as heck to see. Dropping a green light in that big hole would be awesome to see and could possibly help your night time fishing.

As someone south of the Mason-Dixon, lakes basically never stably freeze unless you're in Appalachia, and the nearest "lake" to me is actually a reservoir that is more or less empty in winter, so it never ceases to amaze me just how both serene and isolating being out on a frozen lake is.

That Shin ramen is awesome. Try putting a dash of sesame oil in, and 1-2 tablespoons of peanut butter when it's done cooking. So bomb, takes it up another level.

My ex and i used an old camper we converted into an ice shack with a wood stove and a removable floor where the table wood be for the ice hole it had a futon in it so we could spend the night we also never bought ice fishing rods we used sticks and also tied some to the roof lol caught lots of fish here in canada 🇨🇦 ☺️
