- Austrått fort is a WWII disused coastal artillery fortification constructed by the occupying German forces. It contains a gigantic triple 28 cm turret with supporting systems 5 storeys underground. The fort had an important strategic location at the mouth of the Trondheim fjord.
The fort is today a museum. A guided trip, lasting about an hour, takes you underground to view the ammunition storage rooms, hospital, machine rooms, and barracks built to house several hundred soldiers.
As a part of the tour you will be able to view an exhibit showing items from the wartime occupation in the local area.
The German triple-turret, originally from the battleship Gneisenau was placed into the mountain top by the occupying force between 1942 and 1944. About 70 Yugoslav prisoners of war died during the construction of the fort. About the same number died during escape attempts at the Austrått prison camp. This is the only remaining triple-turret of its kind.
The fort consists of close quarter defense, electrical generator, emergency generator, cooling system, heating system, barracks, mess hall, latrine, ammunition storage rooms, other storage rooms as well as corridors. The entrance is protected through a loophole in the steel hatch. The canon is in a good condition. All machine parts are functional, but has been welded due to its current status as a museum.
The fort has regular opening hours during the summer season. It is also possible to schedule a tour at other times of the year by contacting Ørland Kultursenter.

Day
ha just noticed my comment is similiar to Tea in Valhalla comment haha that wasn't on purpose 😂
That was really interesting to watch, so many gauges and valves. thanks for sharing & Great job on providing the historical context. Very well done indeed.
Impressive canon 👍
The plane take off in inclement weather was scarey enough. Great music. We must of course, never forget the violence of WW2 as a deterrent, but unfortunately those who do not pay heed to history are destined to repeat it.
Awesome coastal artillery, It looks ready to fire , thanks for sharing 👍
wow, wow.. how amazing that is still operational. It really maintained well.
Interesting history !!
Super video.
Pozdrawiam.
PERFECT VIDEO HAPPY NEW DAY
That's really cool

Interesting to see a piece of history and good to see the inside workings. You really get a sense of what it must have been like to operate the guns. Cheers. Eddie.

Interesting site, like an echo from WWII 👍
Interressant og flott film 😊
Takk 😊
Very impressive that it's still in operation. Wish things were made that well now. 😁✌
Mega interessant. In Dänemark steht auch noch so eine Kanone.
Very interesting and thanks for sharing. It never ceases to amaze me the lengths that humans will go to kill each other 😒😒
very cool, the 280mm guns!
This turret is from Gneisenau battleship. Museum is opened in summer time only.
Yes. This was a private tour in January.
In US there are four Iowa -class battleships, two South Dakotas and uss North Carolina, all with WW2 triple turrets. Each one of those ships has three triple turrets, so at least 21 of those 16inch triples are left. At least uss Missouri and Wisconsin were in active service during the operation desert storm at beginning of nineties. So, the cesar-turret from Gneisenau is not that unique, still interesting place and well worth a visit.
Are the ammunition still active?
Stay safe my friend.
Thanks for sharing this historical event.
Not active. Think they also welded it stuck
love the night time flight! Or was that sunrise? Awesome fort!!
Afternoon/Evening flight . Start from Ålesund to Oslo then Oslo to Trondheim
That looks great 👍 a lot of technology for 1940s
Interessant das ist. 😢 Vergangenheit. 👍👋
So facinating to visit historic places like this, lovely tour :)
Schade das die Beschreibung nicht auch in Deutsch ist. Die Aufnahmen sind aber gut gemacht. Daumen Hoch für Dich. Gruß Rainer
Too bad that the description is not also in German. But the shots are well done. Thumbs up for you. Greeting Rainer
Hi friends great nice videos friends super like videos friends 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
KMS Scharnhorst gave one last fire, even if it was from beyond the grave, by that time most if not all the Royal Navy battleships and heavy cruisers had been scrapped,
Complicated kit to work. Doubt it will fire again unless people trained to use it. Hope there is never a need to fire it again.
Very cool place to visit. Those cannons are huge! Thanks for sharing. All the best 😊👍
Nifty. Still ready to protect the Northland!
WOW 🤩 i love seeing things from the past just makes you wonder what life would have been like back then, this is amazing though to see the engineering that went into one and that it actually still is operational 👌🏾
I live in norway and i have Been there no cap
Nice
Here visiting your house.
Thumbs up for your video. 28
Watched until the end.
Come to my house.
Great video my friend 👍
Subscribe your channel 👌
Many thanks for sharing my friend. I see it all as a great memorial never to do anything like this again. It's always frightening to see what the Nazis were able to do, all of which was only possible under inhumane conditions and prisoners of war. Big like for reminder!👍#36
Very cool!
