Spurs Point Guard Options For Victor Wembanyama

  • San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama had himself a historically great rookie season. Spurs' future is incredibly bright with Wembanyama as the building block for a potential dynasty down the road. It's very clear, however, that the Spurs must get a point guard for Victor Wembanyama. Wemby had too many times this season where their was obvious lack of a playmaker, and Spurs luckily have several options from the NBA Draft, free agency, or Spurs Trade.

    My preference is draft a point at 8, because to me the pressing need is at SF😢/Wing/3 position. The Spurs are not winning if Julian Champagne is the starting SF, but you need to keep Keldon as the 6 man.
    Meanwhile at point Tre Jones is serviceable and Blake Wesley...if he could put together his speed can be a difference maker. That said there are a number of PG prospects that should be available at 8 , maybe not the best one but maybe you take a flier on Topic and if he's out for a year or a couple of months to strengthen his knees and legs it might not be the worst thing considering the talent talked about in the '25 draft

    Go Draft route. Spurs do not need give up future picks for Trae Young who doesn't play D, or bring back Murray.
    If Spurs don't trade down, Risacher and Dilly are the two they could get at #4 and 8. Castle could turn out to be the better pick, though.

    Pistons want to move up,

      Sadly, CP3 is ring-chasing so I doubt he would go to the Spurs. But if there’s any chance that he’s interested, I hope the Spurs pursue him. Wemby could use a great floor general and CP3 could mentor the future PG for the Spurs just like what he did for SGA.

    I don't get how people might think that Murray is anything close to the level of Trae Young. He's a better defender, sure, but that's about it: Young is better at everything else. Also, Murray said some really unsavoury things about the Spurs, which should be a red flag. And given the steep price the Hawks had to pay to get him, I don't see under which circumstances they might be inclined to ask less for him going back to the Spurs - and such a price would be way too high.

      I think of the ask is half the price to bring him back (say cancel 2026 pick swap, give 27 pick back, and welsey/branham) take the deal in a heartbeat.

      @maniravsadhur8409 he's only worth what teams are willing to pay not what they ask for. And not all picks are created equal. Like especially to the hawks what's more valuable their own pick back while their a lottery team or a future laker pick?

    • @maniravsadhur8409
      @maniravsadhur8409 Před 20 dny

      @brandonkorte6446 Sure, he's only worth what teams are willing to pay for him, but since the Hawks don't need to trade him away I still don't see why they would if the return wasn't good enough. That's only wishful thinking. If the Hawks don't get a good return for him, they'll keep him.

    I agree if we can get it forages fair value, otherwise use the drafted pg. all the rest of the trade option are either: crazy salary,poor trade value, too small, poor defense, or won’t fit the team with we by.

    We have 3 options for point guard. I don't want an old guy. It has to be Dillingham, Topic or Sheppard. The question is will 1 of them still be there at pick 8? If not we might have to use pick 4 on our guard and pick a forward at 8 instead

      You do everything possible to draft Dylan Harper son of NBA champ Ron Harper so he already has an NBA pedigree from his father. Draft Harper as your PG in next years draft. A taller Brunson possibly with better defense. Draft wings that can shoot this draft

      Strike Dillingham, who plays zero defense.
      Topic may need to be drafted and stashed for a year, so he can get physically healthy and work on his shooting.
      Sheppard is not a true point guard, so pass on him.
      Draft Risacher and Salaun. Build on the French Connection! Trade for a point guard.

      You played for the Spurs they didn’t have a problem with them. It wasn’t until he got traded to Atlanta. The front office said they’re interested in having them back so they must not have a problem with him. Spurs would probably be six or seven in the west that would be considerably better than where they are right now. When he was here, he averaged close to a triple double and played defense. That’s what we need.

    • @MrSteviethegreat
      @MrSteviethegreat Před 24 dny

      @@brianrand1129 he wouldn’t sign to extend because he wanted more money. Considering he was averaging an almost triple double per game that was understandable. I’m okay with drafting and going that way but they are talking about wanting to be a contender in the next few years. If that’s what they want Murray is a great option. They traded him because they knew they needed to blow up the team and get a superstar. while I do think he was a great player he wasn’t like Wemby or Tim Duncan or Kawhi Leonard. But he was an exceptional point guard for us. He played both sides, defense and offense very well unfortunately for him he just didn’t fit with Atlanta.Because he needs to be the point guard and they already had Trae Young two point guards doesn’t really work in my opinion
