    SEO ranking can really dictate how much site traffic goes in and out of a website so I'm sure that this will be helpful for folks trying to transition into a new and better domain name for their sites. Thanks for this!

    I recently did a manual redirect by page and by url since it was a small site. Do I need to keep the old site live in wordpress?

    • @wpbeginner
      @wpbeginner  Před rokem

      If you already have all of your redirects set up then you shouldn't need the old site!

    when I try to upload the file to the new site it's saying page doesn't exsist. The new site happens to be a bluehost add-on site. Could that be my problem?

    • @wpbeginner
      @wpbeginner  Před rokem

      If you're able to log into your new site then it being an addon site wouldn't be the root of the issue, for a starting point we would recommend taking a look at our article below:

    How do you undo this process? I got halfway and didn't get goods and greens. There was a problem. Anyway I would like to remove the files from file manager and remove the database.

    • @wpbeginner
      @wpbeginner  Před rokem

      To be clear, you would need to finish the process to keep your rankings but to remove the site, you would remove the redirect if you have set it up and it would depend on your specific hosting for how to remove the installed files for the site on the new domain.

    Hello! I have some questions:
    1. Should the old domain remain on the web host? Can you delete all files then except .htaccess?
    2. must old and new have the same ip address?
    3. if I change the subpages. which .htaccess should I write in? Old or new?
    Thanks :)

    • @wpbeginner
      @wpbeginner  Před 11 měsíci

      1. It would depend on if you want to redirect the old domain or not but most hosts have tools to help redirect the old domain.
      2. No, that is dependent on your host.
      3. It would depend on if you redirect the old domain or not but for redirects we would recommend taking a look at our guide below:

    I am having a issue unfortunately. At the 6min mark when you go into the URL. I cannot access the installer.

    • @wpbeginner
      @wpbeginner  Před rokem

      The most common reason would be if your domain is not pointing to your new host as it can take time to redirect a domain to the new host.

    So I'm wondering why you need to bother with downloading a copy of the site and uploading it. Why not just point the new domain to the existing WordPress install? Seems like extra work to create an entirely new version of the site.

    • @wpbeginner
      @wpbeginner  Před rokem

      It would depend on the specific host as some would make that process easy if you contact them while others need the files to be moved to be properly connected to the new domain.

    Please help me this error , while migrating data.
    Empty file ID. Try again.

    • @wpbeginner
      @wpbeginner  Před rokem

      We have not seen that specific error message, you would want to ensure if you are transferring plugin data that you have the plugin active on your new site and you would then want to try running the import again to see if that works for you.

    There is no need for a sitemap to update?
    I created a new website and I want to migrate SEO without losing traffic with more than 50 pages. How will I do it?
    How do I redirect manually?

    • @wpbeginner
      @wpbeginner  Před rokem

      You can update your sitemap and eventually should, the redirects should tell Google where the new content is. If you would prefer a written guide we have it on our page below!

    Q: do you need to keep the old domain and renew it for years in order to keep the SEO?

    • @wpbeginner
      @wpbeginner  Před rokem

      It would be best to keep the old domain to redirect it for some time but it would depend on how many people are still visiting the old site. You would want to check your analytics for how many visits are coming from the old domain to determine if it is still worth it to keep renewing the old domain.
