I remember the first time I listened this song, (one year and a half ago if I'm not wrong)
I was taking a morning walk at the beach near my home. While I walked, I listened to a playlist in Spotify and then this song began playing. And man, I didn't know I would feel overwhelmed that day.
You see, that year I broke up (kinda in good terms) from my first relationship, which lasted 8 months and was quite meaningful. I would still think about him and believe that we would get back toguether in time, but He moved on and went into another relationship 3 months after we broke up. And I still loved him, even though I had many conflicted emotions during that time that ended up making me confused. I would define the "me" of that time as a needy person, which really added to the fact that this song would resonate in me in a overwhelming way.
Eventually I came back home, and after some stuff that happened because I cried at the entrance of my home before actually going inside, I sent him this song without context, he asked me if I was okay, and after a small conversation we reconnected as friends.
Nowadays we still hang out from time to time, and yes, I was able to move on. And listening to this song reminds me of that day

i had a guy i liked in higshchool, before I could actually confess my feelings for him he ended up liking my classmate instead, it hurt me a quite bit but i eventually recovered and forgot about it thus we still became friends. Fast forward to a few months later him and her have already broken up, so we spent more time together... it was later that he told me he had a crush on me, me being the most oblivious person ever told him that i'll give "us" a shot. it went well for the first few months but as time went by i noticed something. he still couldn't forget her, i was only there in her place, i was nothing but the rebound. okay please help me! so I didn’t watch anime yet but is it a good idea to start with banana fish? Or is it too emotional? If not, then with which one do I need to start?
@@evelyn-wu5xf it's emotional and also explores marutre content as selling drugs, human trafficking and rape. But this anime is a masterpiece. It's super fun to watch and makes you super anxious at times because you can't guess what will come next. And the relationship between the two protagonists is so strong, such a love story he have here.... If you would like to watch something like that, I highly recommend it, but prepare tissues for the end.

So my friend told me about this song being so related to Banana Fish, more specifically to Ash and Eiji-
Banana Fish is like my most favorite anime next to KnY, and seeing a artist watch the anime and make a song quite related to it, just warms my heart so much, Banana Fish is so underrated and such a beautiful masterpiece. Legit, when I first heard this song, it was so sus, coz it reminded me so much of Ash and Eiji, like this is amazing, thank you for bringing this gorgeous song to us :')
i like that the partner is in costume, you can’t tell the gender of the partner. all of ricky montgomery’s music has a very androgynous quality to it and this song specifically feels like it’s intentionally obscuring the gender of the partner with a play on words. it’s kept from being totally straight (as music often is) by the same play on words. does he miss his lover man, or does he miss his lover, man? we don’t know.
It’s really good. This is my first experience with his music, but you can tell this was clearly done to appeal to a larger audience. No matter who you are, no matter what gender, religion, sexuality, race, anything; you can project yourself onto the song and feel the feelings he’s describing. It’s really actually quite well done, and even though I don’t know him, I can tell he’s really great at what he does.

There is no need to worry about me Eiji, I am finally at peace where no one can hurt me. I see Shorter and Skip everyday and we get to do whatever we want without worry!
And yes, you grew up with no need to use a gun and I needed a gun. But, I am happy that you didn't. I'm happy that despite our differences we could get along. You reminded me that I am young and that it's okay to rely on someone every once in a while. I can't thank you enough Eiji.
Thank you Eiji, I am also glad that I got to meet someone who cares for me without wanting anything in return. I never thought I would be so lucky. This year, despite all the sadness, was the best one I've ever had because I met you.
I only asked you repeatedly because I was scared I got you might leave me or hurt me like the others, but you never did. You always said the right things and after ... that day ... you hugged me and understood me without any words. You made me feel safe in your arms, like everything terrible that ever happened to me never existed.
You did protect me! You protected my heart and soul, you helped me go back to true self before and after the Arthur fiasco. I know I lost it, I just wanted to protect my gang of monkeys, as well as you. So thank you for looking out for me and for accepting me even after you saw what I did to Arthur and his men. I wish I got to go to Japan with you, I wish I got to see your hometown, I wish I got to leave my fate and destiny behind, but I always knew all the bad would eventually catch up to me. I'm just glad the last thing I read and thought about was you Eiji, not the pain of my past.
I now know that I was never alone, you were always with me, even before we met. I could've jumped off the tallest building in New York, but never did. Yes, maybe my stubbornness had a part in it, but maybe I lived to meet you too. Maybe fate and destiny lead us to meet when we did. I just wished fate wasn't so cruel and we could've met before, then maybe, I could've went with you to Japan and brought Skip and Shorter with me. Life without a gun sounds like a dream...
Thank you Eiji, thank you for understanding me, thank you for staying my my side, thank you for caring for me, and thank you for treating me with kindness and love. If I meet one of the thousands of Japanese Gods you told me about, and if they granted wishes, I would wish for more time with you. But for now, I am will just be happy that you are safe.
