- Is the Sony a6400 still a good camera to buy in 2020? Definitely. If you're looking to get a Sony mirrorless camera, the a6400 is one of the best options right now.
The flip-screen, updated processor, size, auto-focus with touch focus on the screen and picture profiles makes the a6400 a stellar camera for less than $1000. If you need in-body image stabilization (IBIS) you'll want to upgrade to the a6600 or even the a6500 but in most ways the a6400 is a nice upgrade over the a6300 and worth getting.

You have the best videos! I have them saved to refer back to especially the ones where you talk about camera settings. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Latoya!
thank you ray, really appreciated ur review
This is the best comparison video I've seen so far, BY FAR!
Thanks, Kristie!
Welcome back Ray :) .. Keep your content coming .. Your studio has changed too ( as in work place ) :D
Thanks, always evolving;)
Great video, saving up to get this mostly for video but also photos for sports and lifestyle!
Thanks. Enjoy the cam!
AWESOME video. Thank you. Really torn between this and the M50 and M6 Mk II. This helps. Much appreciated.
Thanks. I've been much happier with the results out of Sony mirrorless than Canon. Not that Canon is bad, I like their cams, but the Sony seems to get more out of the image for me.
@@RayOrtega I grabbed the a6400! Anxiously awaiting it's arrival. Kit lens was included, and also got a Sony 35mm F1.8 OSS, so a good place to begin. Thanks for the inspiration...
@@RockWILK Stellar. Enjoy!
Great video such a fair and informative review
Thanks, Loja
like the review, have a 6400 on the way, should be here tomorrow, itching to test it out
This is the camera I've been using lately for all my CZcams videos and I definitely, super niceeeee, I include the a73 for my CZcams but I don't saw a huge difference, so I return it and I keep using the same one. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Nice, glad you're enjoying the cam!
Hey Ray, Great video as always! I was wondering which microphone you used for your videos? Thanks!
def not a downgrade.. that autofocus is sick
I think the a6400 is an all-around better choice than the similarly priced zv-1 .... if you can't match the price, just pay the difference.
CONGRATULATIONS! DO YOU! think of getting a 16mm lens! keep making these videos you are killing it. im working on getting my audio right. you tube. how you've changed my priorities!
Thanks, Sean, 16mm is great if you have a stabilized sensor or don't need stabilization and audio is key!
Does the rolling shutter affect too much in 4k?
I just tested my a6400 for overheating and battery out of curiosity. Sony battery, 81F room, not in direct sunlight. Shooting a CZcams video with faces. 4k 30FPS, 1hr 26 minutes until battery died, no overheating. The lack of IBIS keeps me with OSS Sony lenses but they're good. I thought about the a6600 for a bigger battery and IBIS, but it IS a larger body, weighs 25% more and costs $400 more. It was a tough choice. Agree with everything you said in this video. - WW
Hello Ray! this camera has the eye auto focus for video too. I was on line with Adorama and that was a question that I asked.
Interesting, I haven't seen it work but that would only make it better!
Greetings I am debating between the a6400 or the a6600. Is the image quality any different? Like that sharpness and color?? I don’t mind the lesser battery and non ibis.
Damn that audio quality
Thank you so much for this information ! What frame rate are we shooting in on this video? 24 or 30? Also what lens are you using ?
Thanks, if it was slow motion then it was 120fps 1080p, everything else was shot at 24fps. All the gear used on each video is always linked in each description and on this video I used a couple different lenses including Sony 18-135mm OSS: podhelp.me/sony18-135f3_5-5_6ossBH and the Sigma 16mm F1.4: podhelp.me/SigmaE16mmBH (affiliate links). Thanks for watching!
Ray Ortega thank you so much I’m looking at the a6400 and was trying to figure out if I need the Deluxe kit from that website. This video is perfect because I’m looking for that same crisp quality as this video ! Any thoughts ?
I have a Rode NTG-2 mic and it needs phantom power. Would the A6400 power that mic or would I need to get a different mic? I would love to use the gear I already have.
What about stabilization? I recorded a video walking around my car with the a6400 and the 16-50 kit lens, in 4K it shakes a lot... in HD it shakes less. Then I did the same with the RX100V and the image is very stable. Then tried with gopro 7 n hiper smooth, and it was the best result of them all... is there anyway to improve it?? Just bought the a6400 and it is a little disappointing...thank you !
For stabilization when moving you really want to use a Gimbal for APSC or larger sensors. You will never get the stabilization of an action cam for these larger sensor Cameras without a Gimbal or post processing. Alternatively, you can buy a camcorder with advanced stabilization if you just want video. Or as you said, use an action cam like the GoPro, DJI Action or even the Osmo Pocket. Maybe the best larger sensor stabilization out right now is the Panasonic GH5 and even that is just "OK", and that's a smaller sensor than APSC. Here's a video showing the GH5 vs a 6300 on a Gimbal: czcams.com/video/ptLggJ-Z65M/video.html

Hello,
I have a question about battery and overheating. Recently I got a new "Sony alpha 6400" (kit with small lenses). I noticed that even when I'm not filming or taking photos camera battery is (literally) draining on the eyes (and also in video mode camera stay hot constantly even when not filming). By just browsing menu for some time I lost 30% of battery. it is normal behavior or my camera has some problems? I'll test half of the battery for how much photos it can take (RAW + fine JPEG).
Thanks.
Sounds like a problem. Maybe try warranty claim if you haven’t already?
Hey, a new subscriber here.
What i can't find out about this camera is video stabilization when you film the road out of the car.
I am talking with optical stabilization lense 16-50
Wanna test it for me?
It will be first test of this kind on CZcams
I can't let go with Canon. They've been behind the times with mirror less and 4k but they're catching up, hopefully...
Canon still great, I love the image out of the cam, auto-focus is good too and lots of lenses.
@@RayOrtega I agree. As a colour-blind person, I think the Sony looks a little yellow
Hlw bro my dslr camera lost... i am very sed.. plese help me, 😥😥😥😭
Does a gimble stop the jello thing
No because jello-cam is happening at the sensor so if you pan too fast, because the way the image is processed internally, you will still see the image gets wavy (for the lack of a better term).
Too much speaking. More presenting captured video is much better, I think.
bro i have no money bro give me for gift for camera iam from indao
