Rear exhaust hanger, look at the part that fastens to the pipe. It has a slight curve to it. Looks like you need to install them with the rubber part towards the rear, sideways, 90 degrees from what you had. Hope this helps...
Great work! Love the build!
Thanks for the tips!
The car is looking great.
I've really enjoyed watching your approach to this work in progress.
Doing all of it on the floor without a hoist makes it even more impressive.
Thanks friend, I used to have a shop with car lifts, paint booth and 4 times the space, things happened and now I am here in a 2 car garage proving you can still get fantastic results in a limited space without crazy tools. Best part is having fun while doing it.
She sounds gooder!!!
lol. Thanks buddy!
Great work. You are really making some headway on the pumpkin. Cant wait to see more.
You and me both! hoping the weather holds out so I can keep working this winter
I think its warmer down where I'm at but it has still been chilly and I'm not getting much done lol. Oh well....still waiting on my bird so I guess thats ok
I really want to see the bird back in your shop, hopefully soon it makes an appearance
@@VinylVillageGarage Hopefully
Nice work Jon! Great video work and Inspiring to watch this sweet ‘68 come back to life.
Making decent progress, we didn’t get near the snow you did.
You must be charmed. I've never been able to have an exhaust fit together as well as you did, and/or have it begin to disassemble and fall to the floor on it's own. But seriously, nice job, sounds great
I am equally surprised on how nice this kit went together, blown away actually on how nice it fit to the body and no modifications to the pipes at all, only mods was the hangers which i purchased separately, I would definitely recommend this kit to anyone needing a factory exhaust with easy install.
Great job brother you are the man that bird is going to be better then factory
I think so too. Should make for a very clean car.
Nice fit sounds nice
Thanks! Super happy with it
I used antisieze on the pipe joints and clamps. Gets messy while getting it all together. But it does make replacing a section much easier down the road.
Yea that is a good tip that would definitely not hurt a thing to do.
Looking nice and clean under there!
It was a nice view. Most people will never see under this car so figure why not share it. Thanks again!
Another gd one! Getting better and better boss. Didn’t see the Dew in this episode. I’ll let you slide this time!
Thanks! It was fun playing and figuring out the factory plumbing. Unfortunately I am low on the Dew supply,
Need to go on a hunt for more.
👍 All the best in the New Year!
Happy new years indeed. Hopefully a good year for your Camaro project as well.
Turn the exhaust bracket 90 degrees bolt it back on the exhaust hangs from metal L tabs on the other side .....it looks like they allow you to bolt it on either direction.
Awesome thanks!! Much appreciated
Shes sure lookng and sounding pretty. I still have the factory single exhaust on my 68 installed
Thanks. This was a first for me a factory exhaust system, i actually kind of like it too. Especially if it was a convertible.
@@VinylVillageGarage yeah, I got lucky when I found the convertible back in 91. I'm kinda torn between factory dual exhaust or going with the Longbranch cast iron headers and Dual exhaust. Will see.
That is a tough choice for sure. If I was going for more power those are the manifolds i would use.
Sounds good man! I’m in Kentucky picking up a 68 firebird as we speak. Can’t wait to get it home tomorrow and get started on it. Thanks for all the great content, it will be a big help.
Way too cool. Safe journeys for you and the new bird!
Got the bird home safe. I do need both front fenders and a radiation support. Do you have any recommendations on a good aftermarket brand or leads on any used ones in decent shape?
@@justindennis1186 I have been looking for good used fenders and no luck in my area. Camaro fenders are not the same, they can be modified to work. Keep that in mind when shopping. At one time you could find decent used fender cheep all day long. Best bet at least for me is Facebook market place and keep checking
Thanks for the reply. I figure I’ll end up with some aftermarket fenders. Like you said, the used ones are hard to find and expensive if you do.
If you do go aftermarket let me know how the fitment is. 1969 aftermarket fenders are not good at all from what I have been told. I almost want to buy a set just to see how bad they are. I wonder if the 68 fenders are any better. Haven’t heard complaints, just curious.
I just removed the factory exhaust on my 67 Firebird shell and the rear hanger on the frame rail doesn't look like that at all. It doesn't sit vertical but instead sits horizontal. My exhaust only had one exit though so it's likely a different system than yours. The car was a 326 HO car.
I have since figured it out, yes like yours you turn the
Hangers 90 degrees and they work great!
Those rails you kept are 50 bucks at a swap meet all day long.
Seriously, i could sell them. Thats better then scrap weight. They aren’t junk but for me it was quicker to buy new ones for this build.
looks great Jon! Sounds good too. Where did you order the kit and how affordable is it?
I am happy with the kit. the owner wanted a quiet exhaust so figured I would go stock. I purchased it from Ames performance, the kit was like $350 plus $150 for shipping. It’s a bit costly but compared to what was available that could be installed in factory locations and no modification it was the lowest price i could find.
Jon, is there any reason you didn’t paint the car first prior to assembly? I just personally find that it’s less work to bag the undercarriage each time you prime/paint and you don’t end up with overspray that eventually finds its way in somehow. The car looks amazing though!
Why you ask? It’s just personal preference I suppose. I like to assemble the car with all the weight on it to set body gaps then take it back apart to paint. So in my mind why not do final assembly on stuff I don’t need to take apart to paint the body. Yea it requires masking but I have also learned especially with garage paint jobs masking is vital to keep dust down. Even if the underbody wasn’t assembled I would mask it anyways. Let’s just call it the VVG way I suppose. Great question!
We installed the same factory exhaust on our 69 bird and I have pics of the tailpipe hanger bracket - how do I send them to you? If you have 69 frame rails you may need the 69 hanger...as usual enjoyed watching the videos learn a lot Thanks Kelly
Thanks Kelly, it seems I have learned I needed to turn the hangers 90 degrees to get them to fit and they did. Of course I do like seeing any progress pictures of any restoration and can be sent to my Email found in the video link. Vinylvillagegarage@gmail.com
Just looked at my exhaust hanger near the tank and it's sideways. I'll send a pic in email.
Got them, thanks!
Never have the saddle of your clamps horizonal. You want them at an angel so water and shit can run off. It will help keep rust down. Even on a trailer queen.
Good point! I have typically done welded exhaust systems, don’t mess with many clamps.
@@VinylVillageGarage And if they are at an ANGLE its even better! Damn text prediction.
Will this one be sold?
It actually belongs to someone I know. I don’t feel he will sell it anytime soon.
