I am a solo traveler and enjoy being on my own time not having to compromise my agenda and time
I fully understand that , once you get off the plane and finally get your first condo rental, you’re pretty much on your own. Even in bigger cities like Cebu, etc. My plan is to develop a routine, go to the gym , take a walk, learn the immediate neighborhood, go to the same stores so people can get used to seeing me, l can start by taking to the employees, then start taking to people who smile at me, everyone is apprehensive in a new area/ country, but a routine can help with that
Wow, you and I have the same approach cause that exactly what I try to do
Gio, foreigners need to learn and mix with the Philippine culture, and truly create friendships amongst them!
Good advice for sure. If you are an introvert, you are probably well served by using a tour guide, or maybe going on a party boat tour, like the ones in El Nido. Usually what works best is starting out by saying hello…
I just finished circling the globe (including Philippines) in 7 months while solo traveling. One of the best experiences of my life.
It can be fun
That is awesome! But it certainly has its challenges even for an extrovert such as: unknown customs, cultural diff., zero routine. (A good memory can be confused w/having a routine)
@@leanbike4As a slow traveler I mostly keep the same routine but in different locations
By curiosity how much budget for that. Because I love to travel. I went to many places but not like you yet 😂
So basically the same as everywhere else: whether your approaching someone is charming or creepy depends entirely on how attractive you are. Great. Just great.
I am an introvert by nature. I was very quiet and shy as a kid and young man. After 29 years in education and coaching, I can talk to anyone. I talk to people standing in long lines anywhere. I am not shy about talking to people now. I am a solo traveler and have been to the Philippines twice. The great thing about the Philippines is that the people are very friendly and easy to talk to!
I never get lonely when I travel, I have the male equivalent of resting B face. So hoping from airport to airport alone is relaxing for me, because no one is question me on why I'm in a bad mood, upset or what's wrong lol. But being in Manila was tough, not that I couldn't socialize, but I felt like everyone I met wasn't there, no matter who I talked to, I got the same greeting, the same response the same look, the same smile, the say everything. I found the hardest challenge was figuring out not how to come out of my shell but who I can look for to come out of my shell around.
Great video Gio. Thanks for sharing. 🙏
My being more of an introvert is mainly from all my years in the military. I was a unit supply sergeant so that meant a constant barrage of people in my face all day everyday. When I got out I just wanted people to leave me alone. Now, I have no problem meeting people but left to my own devices I would rather be alone and in my own space.
Great still shot for your thumbnail!
You are absolutely right. It took me a while to learn that everyone is just like me, waiting for someone to say hello. Once I realized that, conversations on the street or in a coffee shop flowed naturally. The most enjoyable place is crowded eating places (like those countertop places at the market where you are forced to sit next to people or sometimes share a table to eat). I also picked up chess games and billiards.
Great video, excellent advice and thank you. Nice to see your wife joining it with good perspective as a Philipino.
Glad you enjoyed it
I'm in Baguio. I took a hospital chaplain training program which jump started connections with good hearted Filipinos studying here from all over the country. Facebook groups for expats. I haven't had any luck finding dates. I'm hoping that will evolve as a side effect of making connections and being part of the community.
Great interview with better information.
A good chum lives in duma. He is a happily married European. He just messaged me. He said he has nothing to do with expats. Absolutely 😢
I believe you, but I'm not sure why a guy would choose Duma. If he doesn't like expats. Why not go to one of the nicer areas if you don't want an expat community?
What a nice couple
Good information
Good video. I've been here 2 1/2 years. Traveled a lot and eat out 3-4 times a week. I've still yet to find a Filipina interested in meeting for coffee, going out to dinner or just hanging out for conversation. It's not as easy as these CZcamsrs say. You can definitely end up being a lone wolf out here.
For sure
Very good content 👌
Thank you 🙌
Hi Gio & Maya,
Gio, dude, you’re definitely an introvert. I’m surprised being in the Army, in Germany, didn’t break you out of your shell. But hey, we’re all glad you broke out. Otherwise, who would be our “go to guy”, with all the great vloggs you put out, lol???
I appreciate that
Gio, you have a good woman there. Hold onto her, she is really special
ABSOLUTELY
Finally a vlog that explains how life as lone wolf in the Philippines is
Nice video guys! Good tips for a solo adventurer! Are most Filipinos usually accepting to a foreigner joining in on casual sports like basketball, pickleball, volleyball, etc.?
I travel everywhere alone. I sent my Filipina friend away for a couple days so I could have time to myself last time I was in Cebu.
Ok Bro. What's your go to songs for karaoke, lol. Is there animal shelters there for me to get involved with? I'm naturally shy so it's going to be a challenge at first for me.
For solo travelers.......Pea did a show on the "Sigma Male".....i highly recommend watching it. Very good research and presentation on her part.
I joined a Christian Bible study group. They meet two days per week. Usually about 50 people each day. Mostly Foreigner/Filipina couples. Some singles.
Its both in my opinion. Over 90% of my travel is solo
Amazing content. You both look great. I like the way you discuss it, great advice for introverts 😊
Thanks so much! 😊
You did good Gio. 😉
I think so too
Hi I’m very seriously considering going to either Dumengetti or Valencia I’ve been to Bohol twice I married a woman from there but sadly we are separated 8-9 years now. Your wife is very nice to look at ( does she have a sister for me? Hahaha) I would rather get to know a few people there like 6-8 that they are already friends and I can become part of their group so I can do normal things like go to birthday party’s sing and have cake talk to you again Nick (I m from Michigan)
Go for it!
😎👍🇺🇲
I'm an introvert but I like adventure.
I have no problem being alone for long periods of time. I also enjoy having company in my travels.
I'm an motorcycle enthusiast too a fault 😁
I'd love to be able to bring that with me. I wouldn't be able to bring my bikes but I'd like to get a few while I was there. That would be an avenue to meeting people. MC gatherings and events.
That's if I choose the Phils for permanent retirement.
I've been searching Amazon for a motorcycle shaped backpack so I can bring my KTM as a carry-on.
No luck so far. 😏
Cheers from Fluffy.
Man approaching is the same as in the USA also
Still love you both 😊❤️
❤
I am very introverted, rarely feel lonely, I am completely self-sufficient and busy with my self-employed work. In particular, I *LOATHE AND HATE* small talk and gossip.
Am I boned if I come over to the Philippines?
Traveling alone so easy. I backpacked 80 countries. Just stay at hostels and guesthouses to meet others. Use Tinder, Bumble other online apps to meet other travelers and locals. No excuse in this era to not be able to meet people
I've never seen you go for a swim do you swim at all ???
Often
So, in other words, if a western guy isn't handsome & tall (at least 5'6"), he should just stay home or maybe try another country like Thailand.
Personal appearance matters even more in Thailand
5'6 is very short for a guy. Being considered 'tall' sort of starts at 6'1.
@@jacked6I stand at best 5'11. A lot of the Gen z and younger Filipino dudes are as tall or taller than I am.
How to not come across as predatory? Be young and hot.
The younger you are the easier no doubt haha. I am an introvert so I never talk to random strangers
What did Maya do for work before she met you?
She sold Kimchi and stocked 3 different groceries in the Dumaguete area with her product.
Whats the big deal. I have traveled alone. to Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, and Krabi in Thailand. Also Singapore and Bali. and in the Philipiines : Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu and Lapu lapu, Iloilo, Manila (BGC, Pasay and Makati) and Zamboanga, but have traveled to Tagaytay, Tarlac, Boracay and Bohol with my filipina GF.
If you’re going anywhere in Asia practice singing Karaoke bc you will be asked to sing! When I was in the U.S. Army in South Korea two doctors and three lawyers once a month toke me out for dinner and drinks so they could practice their English conversation skills. I have NO musical abilities at all! In a karaoke bar after much cajoling and drinking I sang! That was the last time they asked me to sing.
GIO we have a problem, I.m an introvert, plus I do not like traveling alone, but it is not going to set me back, I have 4 months to get ready, I want to be in the Philippines by Nov. 2024,. I also went to find a mate, you just cant do that here in the states, women here look at me like I have the plague or something. I believe I will fit into the Philippines, because of who I am, Im nice polite and I believe a good person. I was on your live yesterday but my computer would not let me text, it kept asking me to sign in, when I was already signed it, Weard!!!
You need to toughen up mentally. It's not easy but well worth it
Just be friendly and you will do just fine.
I have a neice 21 yrs Old looking for foreigner she lives in Leyte Philippines with my Mom.
Welcome
Why do many of them see you that way. What's your approach usually? There are many many Filipinas in the states too. Lots live in their own clusters and bubbles. Try to introduce yourself to a few of them
