- A clip from episode 19 of The Super Dimension Fortress Macross "Burst Point" basically Hikaru gets promoted to skull leader and takes Roy's VF-1S and yea Kakizaki's death......honestly i think he got a better death in the series than he did in the movie. also the Dub was done by ADV in case you wanted to know

R.I.P. Chris Ayres, the English voice actor of Lynn Kaifun and Kai!Frieza. You'll forever be missed. SPREAD THE WORD! Also, R.I.P. Hirotaka Suzuoki, the Japanese voice actor of Lynn Kaifun, Bright Noa from Gundam, and Tienshinnhan (original Japanese name for the character) from Dragon Ball, even if you're dead in 2006.
Another one lost way too soon. And, lets not forget, we lost Hikaru's original VA, at the all too young age of 31, back in 1996.
A fact made only more sad by the fact it was to suicide.

To the Robotech / Macross purest
Back in the 80's this series in its entirety was introduced to the US as Robotech with subchapters and Macross was a subchapter .
It wasn't until sometime later that the distinction was made .
So when someone says Robotech for everything in these series don't have a hissy fit and try to act like your Superior
It just means you're dealing with somebody a lot older than you are
That was NO CHLD show dudes..That was a real Saga...I loved it and still rings today as it did 35+ year ago for me....

I misremembered this scene and thought Kakizaki died when Hayase accidentally blew up Hikaru. Things get so dark real quick in Macross. Thanks for sharing.

That's why shows like this were always preferable to me over the standard Saturday morning fare of the 1980s. In GI Joe everybody got a parachute and there were no stakes. The Japanese animation I watched as a kid straight up murdered people.

I have to agree that even though I really disliked the other changes, I really liked the orignal dub team.

This is my first time watching an English dub of Macross and it's fine. I think the voice acting in Robotech is better and this seems to have faster pacing but that could just be my recollection of it. very cool.

umm no its hikaru ichijo from macross this is the ADV Re-Dub if this was robotech they would call him ben instead of kakizaki....its a little confusing but nothing to argue over

What makes Kakizaki's the odd one out for him to die? =D
Well, from 7:36 to 7:45 you will notice two things:
1 - He was standing closest to the direction of the explosion
2 - He was the last to transform, running on foot in battroid mode for several seconds after Hikaru and Max had already gone airborne.
Those few seconds meant he was significantly behind the other two in distance.

I liked Robotech dialog better. It was more adult, and The rank structures were more accurate to real life.

Here, in this redub of "Macross," his name is 'Global' as it was originally....and he's Italian.

You know, Hikaru's is the only voice I don't like. Everyone else sounds decent enough.
I like hikaru voice it matches his child like face the Japanese is good but he just sounds like freeza lol

The English dub of "Clash of the Bionoids" is WAY WORSE than the ADV dub of Macross. I LIKE the ADV dub of Macross. This dub doesn't suck. The dub of "Clash of the Bionoids" does suck. "Clash of the Bionoids" makes the ADV dub look like a masterpiece by comparison. ADV dub is BETTER than "Clash of the Bionoids". Please don't bash me. Please be respectful.

But i do lean on the macross version a little more cause they made him sound like what he is a kid the Japanese version he sounds more like a bad guy like frezza lol but dont get me wrong Tony did a amazing job as well and he sound young too and I appreciate that but like said I lean towars this guy a little more lol

The Dub is ok, but the Japanese Dub is far superior then this...

Too bad Vic Mignogna and Monica Rial are enemies. She's such a liar and a FAKE victim playing the victim card whenever she gets even the slightest bit of criticism. But I like her as a voice actress. I'm trying to separate the art from the artist.
Tony Oliver was a way better Hikaru. Even if it was technically "Rick" in his version.

I don't get why they decided to make Hikaru like such a little shit. He's 16 at the beginning of the series. Hase Arihiro portrayed him as having a young-sounding but still somewhat husky voice. Tony Oliver just went for cocky-young-guy, not weedy-sounding. HIkaru in ADV dub sounds like he hasn't hit puberty.
To be honest, I actually LIKE this dub. I agree with those that say Robotech is TRASH compared to Macross, including voice acting.

holy crap my dub has a dif voice cast- and its better than this one! lisa sounds older in mine and its more attractive- kinda like the way ryoko's voice works. its funny that guy died 'cause he was irritating- i was more pissed when roy focker died- why the fuck diddn't call the meds? he probably might have lived.
I think he was shot through the chest pretty badly... Roy had already KNEW that his injuries were gonna be fatal, and that if he didn't rush back home ASAP to see Gloria; he prolly wouldn't even get a chance to see her at all!

Actually makes me appreciate be more careful voice acting choices in the Harmony Gold version.
this english cast doesnt know how to pronounce japanese names. one of the main things that annoy me in dubs.

I'm sorry, but these dubs are worse than the Robotech voice overs. These...sound really goofy. And the pronunciation of some of the words? I think I'd rather watch Robotech as opposed to this....or the original Japanese dub.
