The Twilight of the Thunder God is about Thor's final fight with Jörmungandr (also known as the Midgard serpent) at Ragnarök which is the end of the world where near all the gods die in Norse Mythology. The giant serpent is one of Loki's children and was said to encircle all of Midgard (aka earth). It joins in with the forces that come to destroy Asgard (the home of the Norse gods known as the Æsir), but Thor meets it in battle where he actually manages to best the massive serpent, beating it with his hammer, but ending up bitten in the process, Thor then walks 9 steps before collapsing, falling over dead to the poison which has then spread throughout his body.
Honestly a pretty fucking metal tale and makes for a great song, as you may have guessed pretty much all of Amon Amarth's songs relate to either what the Vikings did or what happened in their mythology and "stories". And it makes for some great music and interesting lyrics worth looking into to learn new things.
I just lost count of how many tattoos, merch, necklaces etc... i have related to nordic mithology thanks to Amon Amarth.

In Denmark we have vikings festivals. Where there are food, battle..at our rinc castles...

Greetings from Sweden :). Im so glad you reacted to Amon AMarth ive followed them almost from the beginning :). They rarely made any bad songs but there are alot of favourites and so glad you picked one of them for your first try. A big tip is to react to the song "ASATOR" the live version with vikings battling it out on stage u find it on utube :)

Baldrs draumar, a Frisian folk/death metal band.
The name means; The dream of baldr(its worth to do some research about this if you like nordic/germanic history/mythologie).They sing about the old Magna Frisia (Friesland) and our germanic mythologie(pretty much the same as nordic).

Nightwish is my favourite band ever, but man, Amon Amarth grows on you the same way! I love them with a passion. :D Amazing to listen to in your car. And yessss melodeath is my favourite subgenre, although I don't limit myself to it obviously. ;)

If you want more Swedish Melodic Death metal i suggest you reacts to Arch Enemy. They are also very famous and have an female singer/growler.
Songs like Nemesis, Bloodstained Cross, Ravenous and Yesterday is Dead and Gone are some of their better ones.
