TAKE ME HOME - A Song of the Confederacy-1864-Performed by Tom Roush

This song was probably written from the perspective of a Confederate prisoner of war after realizing that the South was losing the conflict or of a freed slave who had nowhere to go. This is a beautiful song. I remembered it was played at a family members funeral. He was 98 years young. I was about 17 years.

my great grandfather walked from vicksburg, mississippi to near cocodrie, louisiana, after defeat. he and pals slept in cemetares hiding. had to eat their mule to live.
