Half-Life: Alyx - Taking Down the Vault

- Alyx Vance disables the emergency backup keeping the Vault in the air, resulting in a spectacular crash-landing. She later awakes among the rubble caused by the crash, in one of the most breathtaking moments of the game.
This moment is much better when experiencing it in game, because the player has spent about 75% of the entire game trying to reach the Vault. Seeing it finally come down after fighting your way through a half dozen chapters is incredibly satisfying, but also very shocking because Valve cleverly led players into thinking that the Vault was going to gently dock at the bridge instead. And the aftermath, when Alyx wakes up, is also well designed - being able to walk through all the destruction that you caused is super cool (and amplified in VR). - Hry

In VR this felt so fucking sick. Same with the stuff that is in the vault.
I agree. When I accidentally triggered the beam to shut off, the resulting effects were so cool in VR.

*Wrecks high-speed train into a wall, causing a massive crash* Alyx: "Alright, let's find dad. I'm sure he's alright."
The funny thing is, that Alyx's assumption of the condition of the person she is trying to rescue is totally wrong in both situations. She assumes Eli is fine, but he's hanging above a huge pit and almost falls to his death. Then, she assumes she killed the prisoner in the vault, however, the vault's prison cell area is just fine.
Irony at its finest. Though to be fair that Vault does look very secure

I love how the music is a more panicked version of the music you hear in the City 17 residential areas, with the strings becoming more synth like and practically nagging at you.
Edit: and also those little arms that grab at the other levers and pull them up. Adds a purpose to those things that never really had a purpose or made sense in Half-Life 2 and could have also been some sort of ease of access tool for the combine in case they needed to pull all the levers for some reason and we had somehow accidentally activated it and are misusing it.

@@Sexy_Nutella I think The Combine has on eye hud's, so if you need to read a manual of the devices your working with, you just open it and start reading it.
Maybe the computer voice AI assigns functions differently each time and it just tells the soldier operating them what to do?

True. G-man and his employers are probably at too high of a level of understanding to be reasoned as good or evil as how we describe it
My crackpot theory is that Earth(which was always going to be a Combine target centuries from now) was set up as a trap for the Combine, and that "the right man in the wrong place" can change galactic history for the better. G-man and his Employers probably see Earth and Humanity as a key to destroy the Combine, but they will sacrifice a "few"(billion lives) to save the whole(as in the universe and what's left of Earth).
At the end of Alyx, Eli is alive and wants to save his daughter, Gordon is back and wants to save Alyx/friends/Earth and both will continue their work in defeating the Combine and get their loved one back and will do what is necessary to aim for those goals. Talk about great motivation.

Timur 56255 I guess that could take more time to create and valve would’ve had to delay. It sounds like a very valve thing to do but I think they just wanted to get one game out that doesn’t take 7 years of development (cough cough, tf2)

As they said, they couldn't understand the security systems inside, in all likelyhood the controls to dock the bridge might have been elsewhere and they didn't know where to look

HL: Alyx takes place in a different timeline than the base game's; I think G-man intentionally got captured, leading to the Combine creating the vault. This did not happen in HL2
