Embracing his sexuality is how he convinces himself he's powerful and takes his power back.
It's sexuality on his terms, being desired, and he mostly is, it's one of the few benefits he got out of this deal, fame and prestige and being desired.
But it's a desperation tactic to feel some kind of strength, simply put, it's fake, why husk doesn't go far it, that's why angel was so set off.
As it's making him feel powerless as he always does, by not succumbing to the power of his seuxality, except this time hes not with valentino in the only time hes meant to feel like hes got some kinda power, that's why he keeps desperately trying it on with husk, as he's the only man there as it puts him back in the power and control position.

Husk's contract is a lot more scary because at least with Val we know what to expect, Alastor is an enigma who could choose to do anything with Husk just for a cheap thrill.

Indeed; I mean, the dude was a serial killer and (I think) a bit of a cannibal? I honestly wouldn’t put it past him to literally eat Husk alive (and not in a horny way) if the fancy took him, since he’d still respawn later.

This episode really affected me with Angels story. I was SOBBING. The way he said he is doing it so he can completely fuck himself up and break himself so he won't be Vals favourite anymore. Goddamn. Also, Poison is a straight bop, but boy is it HEAVY. Husk and Angel Dust are so cute together. I am definitely onboard with their ship.
I really want Charlie to fully fuck up Val. We keep seeing hints at her demon form, and I think had Angel not gotten involved, she would've gone full rage mode on Val.
I've seen other abuse survivors saying similar, so it tracks. Episode hits like a truck.

The worst thing about it for Angel is that his self-destruction is all in vain. Valentino's never going to let Angel go, no matter how much he destroys himself or how broken he gets. If he can't be Valentino's toy, he'll just be made do something even worse than what he's doing now.

@@theirishviking9278 From what we knew from the pilot. It is an exorcist spear. I just said blessed because that's what they called the weapons used in Helluva boss by Striker. But I love all the theories and can't wait for more. Well worth the wait.
Husk's voice actor did a spectacular job as an antagonist of Disney's Princess and the Frog - Dr. Faciler/Shadowman.
Faciler heavily influenced and inspired the character of Alastor, so Husk being in Alastor's debt while being voiced by Keith David is basically a "tourch-passing".
Oh shit, I completely forgot about that...you know...I'm not sure I knew that was Keith David at the time 😫
Facilier actually didn't inspire Alastor's character because Vivziepop actually created Alastor's character back in high school long before The Princess and the Frog came out. That's a common misunderstanding though, so I understand why you thought that.

Both are tall, charismatic dealmakers from New Orleans, around 1920's time period, possessing the powers of voodoo and hoodoo and manipulating people with their charm.
Alastor also had a living shadow in the pilot, that I haven't yet seen in the show
This episode is so incredibly heavy. Seeing Angel get abused by Val does not get any easier to watch on repeat viewings.
I am glad the episode ended on Charlie turning into a wet noodle when Angel forgave her. It really needed that levity at the end.
That's what I love about the stories Vivienne created, it's all comedy but still manages to have a deep meaning, like in helluva boss, it feels like a story about many broken families coming together in their own dysfunctional functional way to create a new one, and in hazbin hotel it feels to me its literally about overcoming your own inner "demons" and trying to be better.
That's because people like Val exist in the real world. You don't need the powers of Hell to make a person's life hell.
@@jordannagel2683exactly! Essentially they’re treated like real people. Funny charismatic people with biting wit and like any friend you make then learn about the darker sides of their life it doesn’t feel cheap or fake.
I fucking hope Val overstep at some point, and Charlie fucks him up. She's been going "demon Charlie" more and more, at some point someone will gets a freaking reckoning... It's played to much for laugh to not mean Charlie is really, really dangerous when she's angry. If that person can be Val... That would be the cherry on top.
At 14:38 I love the detail on how Angel and Husk are wrapped by their "owners".
Angels' chain is chaotic and random , signifying the fact that Valentino is acting more on emotions.
While Husk's are neat and elegant (chaos and order) , signifying that Alastor is more planed and calculated in his actions.
I also noticed that also you know Vox lowkey enables Valentino like we see in ep 2 you can see the power dynamic there, however Alastor yikesss no one can control that man nor know wtf he’s planning
I thought Angel was bound luke that cause it looks a little like bondage, linking him to his work and Val.
Angel's are also more loose, ad falls off him faster. Husk's is tight and takes a while to come undone. Could be interesting foreshadowing!!

I can see why Vaggie reminded Charlie about her being the princess and having more authority. Like if she lets stuff like that slide, she won’t be taken serious by ANYONE in hell.
I think that ship sailed a long time ago. Probably everyone knows she is a cinnamon roll and wouldn't hurt a fly... (Unless she was different before and the Hotel is for herself too, but I somehow doubt that) Based on previous Helluva boss episodes kind powerful demons like Charlie or Asmodeus are seen as weak because they don't show their real powers.
Everyone already knows she's too sweet for someone to have been born in Hell, especially for being the daughter of the King of Hell, they already deem her dream for the Hotel to be laughable (even Alastor, the Hotel's Chief Investor, doesn't think redemption is possible in Hell, he's just using it as a form of long-term entertainment).
I think it's too late for that. Remember how Killjoy treated Charlie in the Pilot? She knew she was the daughter of Lucifer, she knew she was talking shit to one of the most powerful beings in Hell, she just didn't care. Because she KNEW Charlie wasn't going to do anything and just let her get away with it. So at this point, everyone in Hell thinks they can do or say whatever they want to the Princess because she's just a figure head.
She’s… honestly already not taken seriously. Katie Killjoy for example repeatedly insulted her and fought her on live tv. Charlie “fought back”, but she held back. Katie knew Charlie wouldn’t do anything. So did all the audience that booed her and laughed in her face when she pitched the hotel. She is just naturally kind and wants to keep up a nice, welcoming reputation so that she can be approachable for demons wanting to go to the hotel. I do think at some point though, Charlie will get fed up and they’ll see she’s not playing around anymore, but we’ll see
i think charlie can over pass the power of a overlord like valentino vox and roissi just like husk she is a monster when fighting look at the last episode she stabed adam right in the shoulder

Its so hard because so often people want to help in these kinds of situations, but they often dont realize that offering a hand, or even just alluding to the knowledge that the victim is being abused, often makes the situation worse for the victim. The abuser takes it out on the victim, reinforces their control, tears down any thought of autonomy or confidence the victim might have, and makes the thought of leaving seemingly unobtainable. Thats why its so important to offer help in the right way, delicately and with a great degree of tact, and i think Charlie got a big eye opener to that here. Being nice is wonderful, and having a huge heart is beautiful, and seeing the good in everyone is so good, but there's some people, narcissistic and psychotic people, that you just cant reach. It IS possible to help, and it IS possible for the victim to get out, but this was just not the way to handle it. My stomach dropped when Charlie said she'd go talk to Val, cuz i just... knew. I'm glad Husk was able to connect with Angel though. Very hard-hitting episode, and loved your reactions and empathy for the characters

And the long-term effects are so difficult and complicated. Relearning to just exist again without fear and resentment, trying to find where the ideas the abuser instilled stop and where you actually begin. Herculean stuff

I get the sense that we are going to see Charlie unleash her power eventually when someone pushes her too far and it's probably not going to end well for anyone involved, herself included given the type of person she is.

Oh Charlie...I can relate to her so much. Always wanting to please everyone around and make everyone happy. One day she will learn, like I did. Not everyone is nice nor will be just because you show them kindness. Some people are fucked up monsters, and you have to protect yourself and those you love.
She is really so sweet and I hope she will always be that way ...but I will adore the day she isn't afraid to show a little aggression lol

This episode definitely made me appreciate Husk as a character, plus Keith David owns that song!
People seem to forget that Charlie is the third strongest in all of Hell, because she doesn't act like it. She cares for her people and wants them to be happy. She's an angel and a demon, after all. That's why I fully believe that she would've wrecked Valentino in her anger.
Valentino didn't seemed worried at all so I don't think that's the case.

@@DioxJXD No, Valentino is a calculating asshole. He knew exactly that Angel would step in and she'd listen to Angel. For him it was the easiest and fastest way to get rid of her. Charlie has the power to wreck him but she is too soft to use it and he knew that. He tested right when she arrived with the arm licking how far he could go with her. He is a skilled manipulator and it's clear as day. I'm sure we'll get a rematch eventually.
Husk really is the wise bartender that seen it all.
In ep 3 he complimented Sirpentious for "taking it like a champ" and here at the begining he layed down everyones secrets.

This episode, in my opinion, is the best so far. It’s been a high bar because this show is fantastic, but I love Angel and Husk’s friendship.
And for many people what Angel is going through is a reality for them. I love how it doesn’t glorify the sin.
See, I think this is what some people get confused about. They mistake “depicting it” with “glorifying it”
This was not glorified. Poison has some glam in it but it’s specifically at a point where he says he dissociates frequently. I have a dissociative disorder, that’s a bad sign. A very bad sign.
Angel feels like a vent Character and it brings a sense of realism to him without glorifying and “promoting” it.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I think Vivienne (the show’s creator) created Angel while dealing with an abusive relationship as a way to cope and I think that adds a lot of context bc I’ve seen a lot of people complain that Angels story is too much or that it wasn’t handled well but it’s coming from a very personal place from a surviver
I didn’t know that but I wouldn’t be surprised. His character has always had a lot of detail and love put in him, in the way a vent character you value is. They’re the small vulnerable part of you.
Also F*CK whoever made Vivienne feel like this. I know it sucks.
She's never stated ever being in an abusive relationship, but either way, you don't have to have been in abusive relationship to understand the suffering that victims go through at the hands of their abusers. There's plenty of stories from survivors about their experiences with abuse, many that will either give you chills, boil your blood or a mixture of both, they don't make for easy listening.

When Valentino was abusing angel in that scene, it felt so realistic because stuff like this happens a lot irl. Especially with abusive parents. Abusive Stepdads may be comparable to Val.

The scene where val and angel went to into the dressing room made my stomach physically sick. It’s such a sad situation :(
But all too real for many people. The worst abusers won't even care if there's someone in the next room, if they feel their victim has 'stepped out of line', they'll feel they need to exact 'discipline'.
Especially since that scene was made by someone with a SA fetish it's horrible

My feeling about Poison changes the moment I saw the show. Then watching Angel spiral afterwards. It killed me.
Best episode yet even with all the controversy. Definitely feels like the most solid and complete story in the show so far. And I love how it’s purely character focused. It helps it’s about my two favorites Angel and husk

But I think people forgets that everyone deals with what they went through in a different way and Angel himself says that this is what he has to do to be liked but at the same time hates it.

Yeah, I know. I admit, that's what got my teeth gnashing in this scene. Charlie outranks Valentino by a lightyear. Unless there's something in cannon later stating that contracts can't be destroyed, she could order him to tear up Angel Dust's contract, but she doesn't. Instead, she bumbles her way through the studio until she sets it on fire. Yeah, she bared her fangs when she saw how Valentino treats Angel, but it was too little too late. I understand how scary it can be for a nice person to act against type, but she has to learn that, sometimes, you have to be hard. Cruel, even; especially in Hell. If she doesn't learn that, she won't last five minutes on the throne.
Considering even Vaggie still hesitates at making even a seemingly very innocuous deal with Alastor, I think contracts/deals ARE unbreakable unless both parties agree to dissolve it. If Charlie had the authority to command an Overlord to tear up their contract with a Sinner, Vaggie wouldn't really have much reason to worry.
Now, Charlie could certainly summon up the full extent of her ENORMOUS power, and, ahh...... *politely warn* Valentino of what she might be motivated to do to him if he DOESN'T dissolve the contract, but I imagine such behavior would reflect poorly on Lucifer, and it would also fly in the face of everything Charlie wants to stand for.

Vox approaches Val and convinces him to bring in Angel, who Vox offers to *eventually* guarantee his freedom from Valentino if he agrees to spy on the Hotel for him, Alastor finds out but isn't motivated to intervene because he frankly doesn't give a shit, but Charlie finds out, loses her cool, and tells Vox "Fulfill your end of the bargain and free Angel now, or I will rip your world a-fucking-sunder."
Deals are clearly extremely important/powerful because Vox's purported motivation for spying on the Hotel in the first place is to make sure Alastor doesn't make a deal of any kind with the daughter of Lucifer. If deals were able to be broken by an outside force, it would stand to reason that if Charlie made an unfavorable deal, Lucifer would be able to simply void it. That Vox doesn't bring that up or even consider it suggests deals and contracts are unbreakable and possibly even metaphysically enforced/compelling.
@@perrycarters3113 You have a point about the whole deals thing, but I still think Charlie needs to grow a pair and do more than 'aggressively kindly' talk to Valentino. The fact is, she's kind *to a fault* . She needs to recognize that not everyone is deserving of kindness and courtesy, especially not a pimp who's beating the shit out of (and sexually assaulting) one of her guests. She should, as you said, politely warn Val to dissolve the contract. Because if she can't even do that, she'll never garner respect from her subjects. And a monarch with no respect is an ineffective one. And an ineffective monarch is sometimes more dangerous than a vicious or insane one.

Charlie doesn't have the power or authority people think she does. That's the whole point of the show. They're going to have to solve this other ways. This isn't a shonen anime or a superman comic.

I understand that this Internet "drama" is not as big as some. Nevertheless, since the release of the first episode, I have seen hateful or upset tirades on the story, animation, character writing, voices, "rewriting the Bible", or even songs etc.

I guess it's bound to happen with almost any big/loud enough project on the Internet nowadays.
Because of the things mentioned above, I very much appreciate a person who looks at the show so honestly and emotionally, not trying to find something wrong with the show or its "missed potential", but enjoying the ride.

Everybody saying Charlie could destroy Val, so Angel shouldn’t have stopped her. That is obvious, at least, from an outsider perspective. But keep in mind the position of absolute power that Val holds in Angel’s mind. To him, Val can’t be beaten, nobody can save him. It’s been beaten into his mind psychologically. So he probably thought he was saving her. Keep in mind Angel’s only request while they were in the dressing room, “Just don’t hurt her”

Some people have said he’s “bad representation” but I actually think the opposite, the way he handles everything and makes things worse for himself to almost get control of situations he previously didn’t have control over is VERY relatable and real, and trying to find the best in the abuse as well. I love how Hazbin handles growth. Charlie isn't the catalyst for everyone's growth. Some of them grow on their own with other hotel members. Just shows how a good community really can help

Something to mention is that during “loser baby” when you see the ropes binding Angel and husk you noticed that husks ropes are a LOT tighter.
Which is a good way of showing how he’s sold his entire soul to Alastor whilst as angels only sold part of his soul.
Also when you mentioned val being a moth and being attracted to light and such, a cool thing to pick up on is that whenever vox (the TV demon) is trying manipulate or distract Val he turns the brightness up on his screen.

I enjoy also the two times we got a hint of Charlie's power was one when Hell was threatened by Adam and then here where she saw Angel hurt. I am actually thinking more now that Charlie does seem to overdo it sometimes and I can't help but wonder if seven years ago when she likely was around 13 or so. She did something that Lilith knew would bring Heaven's wrath on her and has gone searching for, well, probably God. And Aliestor was helping only he would refuse the spiritual journey she has to go on, but he has his own plan to "save" Charlie and that likely is to build a team around her. And like last episode, he likely found a sacrificial lamb in Camilla or someone who would be his ally that Lilith once was.

I love how,under his hotness,horniness,flirting,sex jokes and whatnot,Angel is actually such a tragic character,which makes him one of my absolute favorites,and his situation with Valentino is something I already had quite the idea of thanks to Angel's first song "Addict",I encourage you to watch and listen to that music video,it's as good as Poison,if not better,and gives you a little bit more of a background of the character
It's scary to see the small details, what I mean is in 14:36 Angel is only tied up a bit, rope thrown randomly around him, while Husk is fully trapped in the rope, showing how much more evil and greedy Alastor could be in Season 2.
Theres something deeply enteraining in people reacting to the lyrics/visuals of Poison while also acknowledging how much of an absolute bop it is.

One sad and one cute mention:
The scene where angels dancing in the leather bodysuit in “poison” is actually him dissociating and the screen playing in the background is what’s really happening (it’s pretty fucked).
And then on a nicer note, husks pupils are usually very small however during “loser baby” and after that song whenever he looks at Angel you can see his pupils dilate which I think is quite cute

I’ve loved every episode, but this one is the best. Seeing more about Angel, Husk, and Val. This episode made me like Angel and Husk lot more… and do I even need to mention Val? Though it’s a little but rushed, it’s still a very enjoyable show!

With angel being my fav from back during the pilot. This is my fav episode by far. They really both shined and im excited to see what comes next.
Angel definitely deserved so much better than this. The fact that he is forced to do all this and blames himself for it is heartbreaking. Valentino is a very abusive person (physically and s3xu4lly). I hope he gets what’s coming to him in future episodes.
At this point, the only one who has a better chance to be the first resident to get to heaven is Sir. Pentious, because Angel and Husk already sold their souls, probably Nifty too. Alastor, he doesn't wanna redemption. Charlie is a princess of hell and probably prefers to live in hell and Vaggie won't leave Charlie alone.

Great reaction. I love the follow-up review. Especially about Charlie and how she approaches/handles situations. It is not perfect or always lead to the best choices; choices that are basically meant to serve as part of her character growth. Clearly Charlie is restraining herself and the destructive power we all know she must possess. I mean the child of Lilith and Lucifer, "choosing" not to erase a fool or two who deserve it? Something is definitely going on there and I can't wait to find out more about her.
Addict is more tragic cause you just know he died and is not a gangster. He probably was a normal sidekick and in hell. Val probably hooked him up in his agency cause he knows of being in a group but regrets he's in the industry but in hell so he gets used and is looking for help. He is innocent on the case that everyone must gain a group like your in prison in the eternal version of it.
