Since you made Seth‘s video about warp entities that aren’t aligned with chaos. I’d like to propose a video idea of my own. About what remains of and references to ‘our’ era and earlier things from earth in the time of 40K. That’s something I’ve been interested in for a long time.

I thought Horus was chosen over the Lion because commanding your fellow primarchs takes more than authority and strategic acumen, but also great people skills. And people skills were not exactly the Lion's forte.

This is a misconception. The Lion actually held up just fine dealing with the politics on Terra. The biggest hint that the Emperor sacrificing Horus by naming him Warmaster is the correct theory is because G-Man and Sanguinius would have also been better choices than Horus.

The fact that Horus sent the Dark Angels across the Galaxy to get them out of the way, had a giant warp storm plus a entire traitor legion to slow down the Dark Angels (Not beat them) and the dark angels still managed to absolutely fuckover the Traitors, destroy the strongholds and then almost get through the warp to go kill horus is just frightening.

This what i said many times to so many people. Dark Angels are fucking beats. There is a reason their original name to be Angels of Death.
Don't forget that during THE ENTIRE WAR, Lion El left a large portion of his best Marines at home while hunting down Konrad. Horus was smart, he wanted Guilliman busy cause he didn't want to fight the Ultramarines, he kept the Dark Angels busy because he did not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES wanna face The Lion.
I think the Emperor rewarded legions based on percieved personal loyalty of the Primarks. Makes sense he'd give the spiciest toys to the one basically incapable of betraying him.

Let's also remember that the Dark Angels had the 6 Wings. Imagine how they'd be now with the Dreadwing knocking around the Galaxy
Star Phantoms are a suspected successor chapter of the Dark Angels and share their chapter symbol with that of the Dreadwing... However, they are listed as a 23rd founding chapter in 38M, but also have a conflict for being reported at the battle for the Sakkara System alongside the Fleshtearers, shortly after the Heresy.
The leader of the 6 hosts and chapter commander Merier Astelan detested the Deathwing who he described as covered in heathen Xenos symbols (bones and feathers) and witnessed their butchery of the surrendering loyalists during the compliance of Byzanthis under Belath’s order. This was the catalyst of the entire fall

@@thedyingmeme6 The “Hosts of Legion of Death” were the specialised formations or "hosts" within the Dark Angels Legion that were utilised during the Terran Wars of Unification and the early years of the Great Crusade before their reunification with their Primarch Lion El'Jonson. These organizations preceded Princepa Belicosa formations The members of each host maintained a particular tactical specialty and could come together to offer their skill and expertise when required. They existed within and parallel to the Legion's standard hierarchy, organisation and order of battle.
Upon his assumption of command of the Legion as its new Grandmaster, the Lion would utilise these hosts as the foundation from which to form the Six Wings of the Dark Angels' infamous Hexagrammaton. Which are death wing, raven wing fire and green wing etc but that’s all Calibinic nonsense and has nothing to do with the legions time on Terra and under the emperor
I find the lion to be the most interesting to read. He's the only loyal primarch actually portrayed with flaws. All the others are near perfect or their flaws are just aspects of the parts of them that are awesome. Space Wolves really guilty of that.
The Lion just straight up is bad with people, he's a peerless general and strategist, but really bad at talking to, reading or trusting others. It just makes him more interesting.
I disagree on Russ - I mean I have yet to read a story about them where the Wolves are merely more than rabbit dogs. The burning of Prospero shows Russ 'outsmarting' the 1000 Sons by actually falling into a trap - basically dialing the wrong number and whining into a telephone about how smart and powerful he is (not realising the the agent was Horus's and not working for Magnus). Even in his own primarch book Russ is just arrogant and out of control, while he admits that he actually got his ass kicked by the Lion.
But I agree on your take of the Lion, who I think is one of the most underrated Primarchs by the community.

As a person with casual interest in Warhammer, I can safely assume the Dark angels are like that one dude at a party you don't screw with unless your Lord Cipher or members of the Alpha legion

In addition to being sent away, we get some more details in the 9th Forgeworld Black book, the entire Legion was spread across the galaxy, supplies were "delayed" to ensure the 1st would be poorly supplied, and the Lion only had at most, a 3rd of his Legion with him at the start of the Heresy, which he then split to send Corswain after Typhon.

Video idea: space marine legion tier list, you could even do pre and post heresy. It would be a pretty easy one you could make when you don't feel like doing a ton of work that day

The Lion wasn't chosen as a warmaster because he wasn't people's person. Horus had freaking Dorn developing a strong emotional bond with him. Lion managed to screw up his relationship with Guilliman and Sanguinius, literally the most chill primarchs.

Guilliman and Lions relationship wasn't screwed up. Check more of the lore between the two. Guilliman trusted the Lion with his forces at one point in time despite their personal views.
But why and how with Sunguinius?

Yet the Dark Angels couldn't catch Lord Cypher wherever he appears in any part of the galaxy.
There are like two cyphers i don't even know if is the same as before or a new one,is just like alpha legion but one guy
Cypher is basically a codename for "#1 get this bastard" not a single person through entire time
I mean he's literally a dark angel version of alpharious
In all fairness, cypher is a dark angel too, so it kinda balances out.

A cool concept for GW to do, in my head, to reintroduce not 1 but 2 primarchs back into the setting combines a theory that you talked about before whilst also somewhat imitating something perviously done:
The setting could open up with the alpha legion and dark angels fighting each other in the rock. Then during this fighting have cypher sneak in during the fight and make his way to the Lion resting place with the watches of the dark letting him through returning the sword to his hand. The next scene could be that the fighting slowly ceases with the lion entering the main hall with cypher following behind in his shadow. He then commands all the astartes to kneel whilst turning his head around to look at cypher and whilst stepping away from the spotlight to let cypher take centre stage lowing his hood in the light. (Following a particular theory) Cypher turns out to be Omegon and together the stop the conflict whilst walking together to address there individual legions.
I thought this would be a cool idea as it brings back the Lion who was at conflict with Guilliman and a loyalist but branded traitor primarch Omegon which could lead to the first legion to be both loyalist and traitor at the same time whereby you could take loyalist alpha legion, so you could have the primarch but no chaos or Daemon units or chaos alpha legion whereby you can have chaos and Daemon units but no primarch. Plus on a lore side it leaves a massive cliffhanger with the Imperium seeing the alpha legion as traitor but then backed by a loyalist legion and primarch would lead to conflict within the Imperium as whether to accept the alpha legion back or brand the dark angels traitors possibly even acting against the will of the Emperor out of fear.
This is just something I thought was cool idea.
The legions really were so cool compared to their chapters, not just the Dark Angels. Pretty much all of the legions were cooler, just as another example, the Fists are now just Ultramarines that are yellow and prefer defence, a far fall from the defenders of Terra against all of the forces of chaos.
Maybe it's because the Fists were actually exterminated in the war of the Beast, and refounded. So maybe everything that was cool with the Fists legion now lives on in their successors, like the Black Templars and Crimson Fists. And this is not meant as a cheap dig. Think about it, if everybody who knew your chapter's living history and traditions is dead and all you have to go for to start anew is what's in books, you're never going to be the same again.
All the fists except Sigismund we're never great. Dorn is an unrepentant hypocrite.
GW has been writing Dorn and his sons down for a long time now, I mean seriously they nerfed the feth out of the Black Templars in lote and rules. Of course the biggest reason was GW arse screwed themselves by doing the Council of Nikea claptrap (in their usual silly anti Catholic BS... before there was an Ecclisiarchy) where GW pretty much declared by the Emperor's statement that the Black Templars were the only true loyalist Astartes left because they have no Librarians. So, no more drop assault and heavy armor specialists in favor of the TemplOrks screaming, "Blood for the Blood... Emperor!"
Also, whining about how Empy took away their witches and they don't know why, since they are no longer one of the most "atheist" Chapters concerning the Emperor (making Helsreach and its sequel no longer canon), but Empy worshipping whiners with an odd and inefficient troops choice.

I love that beating Conrad is not even the biggest flex. The Lion also bested Kairos Fate Weaver, a being who see literally everything past and future all the time, in the present with his uncanny swordsmanship.
Stabs poor 'ol Fateweaver right in the face and quips, "Did you see that coming?". Pretty sure the Lion is the only being in Warhammer to straight up kill a daemon. Like, not "kill" like normal where their physical manifestation is destroyed and they're banished back to the warp, but kill as in straight up delete it from existence.
@@seandlax9 emps (and now girlyman) has a sword that permabans demons. Emps also permakilled a few during the war in the web way. There are probably other examples- I wasn't aware that Rus did that, for example.
@@ohmygoditisspider7953 Permabanished by Big E's sword is different. Like they can't manifest in reality anymore, but they still exist in the warp. The Lion did to a daemon what Big E did to Horus in completely and utterly destroying it somehow, and it baffled those who witnessed it. It's theorized it's a latent primarch psychic ability specific to him (like Dorn's anti warp field) that he subconsciously channels through his sword.

Even then, permabanning a demon seems more form over function to me- even if the problem demon comes back in a few thousand years you still did immaterial damage to the big daddy choasboy. Can we also talk about how the 1st generation of Dark Angels are also a step above all other Astartes until the Primaris? As an example, Astelan has this mind barrier he isn't even conscious of, so that when the Dark Angel psyker Zahariel touched his mind it felt like he was touching a star
The line in the novel Primarchs about when all the brothers are together and The Lion is slowly walking around the table of them all and reference that even when with his brothers he is hunting...literal chills.
I think the other factor to consider was how the Dark Angels were organized, the legion had the Hexagrammaton and the Orders Militant overlapping the Principia Bellacosa. The 6 Wings of the Hexagrammaton gave the Dark Angels dedicated specialists that could even take control of an operation as needed, granting the legion a degree of flexibility that specialized legions lacked while maintaining elite formations that generalist legions also lacked. The Orders Militant gave the Dark Angels an even greater and more diverse bevy of esoteric specialists that made the Legion incredibly unpredictable as no one really know how many Orders Militant there were nor their full numbers or dispositions. All of this and they maintained their legion in the standard formation of the Principia Bellacosa allowing them to function as a regular Legion as need be. I would argue their comprehensive and unique method of organization and doctrine contributed more to their strength than the archeotech the Emperor entrusted to them. The thing is, the Dark Angels were the only Legion this needlessly complex, because having essentially three different armies and their systems of ranking fused into one would be insane and difficult to coordinate, but the Dark Angels pulled it off. Why? I was their trust, chivalric brotherhood, and knightly sense of purpose. The Dark Angels *unity* is what made them fight so well, what made them the stick every other Legion was measured, it is arguably why the modern Ultramarines are the golden boys. The Dark Angels complex system of organization and secrets worked because each Dark Angel trusted their peers to act in the interests of the Legion, that the secrets and misdirection were not conspiracies but genuinely supposed to protect the Legion from outsiders. The officers of the Principia turned over command to the Hexagrammaton so seamlessly because they trusted in their ability, and vice versa. The Orders Militant would offer their services literally whenever they thought they could be useful, and the strategists of the First Legion adapted their battle plans accordingly because they trusted in the skills of the Orders Militant to carry the day. The rest of the space marine Legions could not work like this because bonds of unity this hardened are hard to come by even for space marines. It is why the Betrayal at Caliban broke them, their trust and unity was shattered by a seemingly unthinkable act of betrayal; Luther, the foster father and right-hand man of Lion El'Jonson, turned against the Legion. After that, paranoia overcame the Legion, combined with the pride that almost destroyed the First Legion before the Lion tempered it rearing its ugly head again. The Dark Angels have retained aspects of their strength, their penchant for ancient weaponry and a remnant of the Hexagrammaton remains, but it was that sense of purpose and brotherhood that truly made them the dreaded Angels of Death. The modern Dark Angels see enemies and conspiracies all around them, but the actual problem is within themselves, not the traitors or the fallen, but the inability of the loyal sons of the Lion to realize how much their mistrust and obsession with the Fallen has hamstrung themselves. In a way, the Betrayal at Caliban affected the Dark Angels more than the Horus Heresy! Which speaks so much to the power of the Dark Angels legion, and the tragic state of the current chapters of the Unforgiven.

5:05 This actually gives me a theory on the lost primarchs. A threat large enough to kill the imperium at this time realistically wouldn't have been beat by a single legion. So what if the two lost were destroyed fighting it, and the the DA swooped in and finished the rangdan off? The emperor, not wanting word to spread that not one, but TWO legions and primarchs had been destroyed by aliens (the imperium was built on the belief humanity was greatest) expunged them from records.
This would also help explain why it was the DA specifically that he sent, as they were the best at keeping secrets along with having super weapons that no/very few other legions had.
The DAs took the brunt of the fighting. The Space Wolves were involved to. In the end apparently Big-E himself got involved with Custodes and might have unleashed the damn Void Dragon. The Rangdan Xenocides were batshit crazy. It took the Imperiums two best legions, Big-E's personal guard, Big-E himself, and presumably one of the most powerful entities in the known universe to beat them.
And they might not have been exterminated. The Slaughth are heavily theorized to be the Rangda.
I can always count on majorkill to rep the best astartes chapter/legion. Honor to the first and death to the fallen my brother in arms.

Hey MK, what's your opinion on the "Shared Warp" thing between Fantasy/AoS and 40k? I've heard the bits about the Skaven somehow contacting the Eldar, and about Kaldor Draigo showing up in one of the AoS novels, but what makes me ask is Skulltaker. In Fantasy he was a daemon prince who takes the form of a Bloodletter, but in 40k he's just straight up a Bloodletter.

The Lion fought with Curze several times. And in his First straight fight the Lion, the Lion lost bad. Lion won the second fight by taking Curze by suprise.
The lion was not losing bad during the first fight, he was winning for the majority of it but Konrad pulled a very unexpected move and started choking him out
The first fight per the Author himself was not a loss but a draw. The fight between those two was a back and forth. Do you really think a primarch is gonna get chocked out by another primarch? Roboute was in space without a helmet and was fine, let that sink in for a moment. The second fight was straight on and he put Curze in a coma. The third fight Curze ran for his life and hid in the bowels of the invincible reason. The 4th fight was Roboute and Lion taking on Curze and those two being lead into an ambush by Curze and the last fight between the Lion and Curze was brutal ending with the lion lifting Curze over his head and breaking his spine over his knee. Curze is an amazing combatant but the Lion is top 3 Primarchs when it comes to it.

I love the Dark Angels. My own fan made chapter are Dark Angels successors. The Sword Lords were founded because several members of the Dark Angels didn’t like how they dealt with the Fallen and focus mostly on melee sword combat because it is the coolest form of combat ever.

ooooo that Lion + DA bias leaking heavy here.... Critical things missed, skipped over:
1) Horus didnt shit himself cuz DA + Lion - He was primarily afraid of Guilliman and what he can muster
2) Horus was actually fucking amazing, thats what makes his fall more hardhitting, he was chosen because he was the best (most other Primarchs agreed).
3) Another reason Lion was not chosen is due to his autistic tendencies and inability to do anything without some sort of force and brutality. Every situation where things can and should be done delicately because that leads to best results and more efficient that way, were always dealt with a heavyhanded manner by the Lion.
4) The Dark Angels were actually a shit legion in the last 100 years before the Lion joined, as they had become uber traditionalists that had lost their initial pragmatism.
5) The Lion was also greedy, whether he admits it or not, otherwise why would he ask Perty for support for Warmaster when passing him the forbidden weapons.
Ultimately, amongst the primarchs, and probably even humanity, the Lion, is an asshole, that people respect and probably fear, but dont really like
I mean you gotta admit he was good at what he does. But he definitely wanted recognition and authority he was scheming to become the next war master as soon as the heresy started. He was intimidating to astartes but most of the primarchs either respected him or thought he was an asshole or respected him while thinking he was an asshole he would have made a shit war master trying to balance and appease his brothers.
Glad someone here remembered that it was the Ultramarine that was the most threatening in the HH hence why they were sent away.

Lion is, by far, the most interesting primarch to me. He was written like a demigod but with human emotions. He made many mistakes but it just made me like him more. He’s definitely my favorite primarch and it’s not close.

The major flaw of the lion and a reason he was likely not given war Master, was his people skills... I remember from the books that his demeanor was that of a lion or a wild beast, he didn't really command hearts as horus could, but tactical prowess held a lot of respect, he was basically portrayed as the beast in knights clothing, his killer instinct was amazing, but his way with words is what ultimately led to his own downfall.

My realization is that I find myself watching other channels a lot more when my majorkill well runs dry. I know it's a big step but have y'all considered starting a big dealio company type thing.
