    Wow! Brandi, what I learned was just how large your training program is. I had no idea that you taught that many students. How in the world do you have the time to teach so many? I'm impressed! But tired just thinking about it. Bless your heart! When do you sleep! ☺

    Great video! Once I went to a summer camp where there were around 20 kids grooming horses at the same time, and the horses didn’t have individual grooming kits so we could never find the right brushes! Individual grooming kits are SO convenient and I love the colour coding idea :)

    Brandi, I knew of a horse that choked on a Chicago screw because it came off the bridle and it almost killed the horse. I throw all the Chicago and add holes in the leather and use leather strings to tie it. That was the way almost all Western bridles were when I was young. I loved the video, I wish I had a tack room, my tack is crammed into my feed room which is not good!

    Wow you have a lot of tack , having all of the camps and doing lessons means you need it all. I have enough tack for all of my horses but cinch stays o my saddle and goes onto every horse I ride. You have a small fortune invested in tack , I figured out one day that I had $30,000 worth of tack and with lots of robberies going on I put a lock on the tack room and I keep the door shut if someone drives in the yard.

    • @VersatileHorsemanship
      @VersatileHorsemanship  Před 5 lety

      AndersonCattleCo. I do the same with my personal saddle. Just one cinch and it never comes off. The lesson saddles are a different story because of the variety of sizes of horses. My personal tack is kept separate and so is my boarders. It really does add up a little piece at a time.

    I do the same with the buckets for each horse I have in for foaling or rehabilitation. It is so easy to disinfect everything in the bucket when that horse returns to its owner. As for the saddles and pads, again they are labeled for each horse, as I only, usually have 3 or 4 in at any given time. Bridles and cinches, the same as you, as each horse usually needs a different cinch, and I put my halters, all western halters, over where the bridle is. Halter above, bridle below. I'm known as the Label Queen at the barn. If it has a label, no one uses that but me, as these are not my own horses. They are there and in my care, I say mine, but in reality they belong to someone else. Mares and foals get a ton of attention after the bonding time of 4 days minimum has passed. Just my personal preference, because again, I'm entrusted with their care, and I don't want a maiden mare to get anxious and then reject the foal. If I have a very troubled horse that had been abused, again, only the barn owner and myself will work with that horse until it is safe. I carry a personal liability insurance of 1,000,000 dollars CDN, on the off chance someone doesn't follow the rules and gets hurt. I love how you have the extra helmets. Will have to incorporate that into the main barn for the owner, who lets me do what I do on his property. I think that is a great idea!! Best Regards from Ontario, Canada, Jenn.

      Jennifer Lehman nice. can’t say I’ve heard the term “western halter” before.

    • @jenniferlehman2464
      @jenniferlehman2464 Před 5 lety

      @@VersatileHorsemanship LOL That's how I refer to non web halters. The halters that a horse can brace itself against. The thinner "western" style halters, made of rope or whatever, a horse can't brace back against as easily and they tend to give to a very light pressure easier. I just love them!! I recently had a very bad behaved stud in for rehab over the summer. I put one of these halters on him and put a catch rope on it that had no clip. As he would turn his butt when you would go to the door. I prefer 2 eyes as opposed to 2 heels when I get to a stall door to feed. By the time he went back, he was a gentleman. And the owner showed his appreciation for all I did in my last cheque!! Was great!! Best Regards from Ontario, Jenn

    • @VersatileHorsemanship
      @VersatileHorsemanship  Před 5 lety +1

      Jennifer Lehman gotcha. Rope halters are all I use. I find nylon halters to be completely useless. I own a few leather halters but they are only used for photos and for halter and showmanship classes at local shows.

Where the bridles are there are a ton of totes tucked under the platform. I’m not even sure what’s in some of them 😳 so.... much.... stuff....
      I also need to figure out a way to label the saddle racks so kids remember where they go 🤔

    • @missys
      @missys Před 5 lety

      @@VersatileHorsemanship that's the stuff we struggle with at the barn where my daughter and I ride. When I'm helping with a group lesson or party the main part of the help is showing the kids where to put things back to. There's always room to improve! Good luck! Can't wait to see the outcome! PS mystery bins are always a nightmare 😱 I have some of those in my own house lol 😜😂 and I know you love to label things with tape....but maybe a small investment in a label maker might be worth it! Their brighter and easier to read. Especially for those young ones. 😄

    • @VersatileHorsemanship
      @VersatileHorsemanship  Před 5 lety +1

      Missy S I have a label maker and I don’t like it. The labels fall off in the barn. I found that masking tape sticks to almost any surface and peels off clean when I decide to change everything around. Plus I can make the writing much bigger so it’s more visible. Fun colors are a must! I think I’m going to name all the saddles after famous horsemen and women and put tape on the wall with their names. The name tags will only be visible when the saddle is gone. It will be a good way for riders to remember some very influential names and there will be a story behind each one.

Can you ride Western style on English material and vice-versa saddle etc ? Which is best for both rider and horse : ride Western on Western equipment an English on English equipment ? In France they mostly ride English style. Do you ride bitless as well as with bridle and bit ?

      Mold and mildew is a big issue in our area as the humidity is very high. Mix that with sweaty horses and it gets pretty yucky. Just like a piece of sterling silver jewelry, My secret to keeping tack looking good is to use it often. We saddle blankets are left in the sun to dry before putting back in the tack room and anything that gets cleaned is not put away until its dry. Someday I'd like to put some fans in the tack room, but for now it works out pretty good.
