      I had to reply under a comment because the standalone comment option is missing😳! Anyway, mines is leaking on the right side of the tank and I live in an apartment. It has been fixed about 3 times-looks like they put in the new bolts-but lately it’ll start back after a few weeks/months so I’m wondering if it is the porcelain itself that’s leaking. If it is the porcelain then what’s the next step? Thanks 😊

    I love your videos! You do a good job and take pride in your work. As for my toilet, I don't have a leak yet but I'm anticipating one. The toilet that I have is set on ceramic tile I believe and whoever cut the tile didn't do it properly so essentially I have probably 2/3 of a piece of tile sitting under the toilet right now with a corner that's exposed with no tile on it in the back with a triangular piece of tile floating around that I used to support the toilet it's crazy! Yeah it wobbles a little bit. Anticipating the only way to take care of it is to remove the toilet and have the tile cut but the bathroom is set to be refurbished so I'm trying to hold off on the toilet until next year. Been 2 years that I've lived here and managed to not rock the toilet to the point of leakage but I have to admit I say a little prayer every time I flush! So as I wait for a new year and new project, if anybody has a temporary fix suggestion on what to put in the floor area in the back of the toilet where the void is to make the toilet more level that would be great.

    Hello,
    I was wondering if you can help. It’s 9pm and I have a drip on my kitchen wall cabinets above my sink. The cabinets are right below our second floor bathroom where the toilet and sink sits. I don’t see any water in the second floor bathroom or on the toilet. Would you have any advice in the meantime before I call a plumber tomorrow morning?
    I am a first time homeowner with my sister. Any suggestions would be wonderful. Thank you.

    • @FixThisHouse
      @FixThisHouse  Před rokem +2

      Hi Mary, thank you for reaching out! The leak might be coming from the pipe that is below the flooring on the second floor. What you can do is try to trace the water spot marks on your first floor above your kitchen cabinets. Usually your be able to find where you need to open up the drywall and trace that leaking pipe or fitting.

    2 problems I have had the most often...
    1. the rubber hose from the fill valve to the overflow tube will come out and or whareout, causing water to be sprayed onto the cover leaking around the top tank edge. This is often caused on older toilets that use a metal hook that holds the hose in place rusting through. I have had it happen with the type that has a plastic ring molded to the drain tube where the ring broke. Two other causes I have had with the hose is too high water pressure that would cause the hose to lift out and the hose cracking.
    2. On the inlet valves with the big float ball on the end of a long brass rod, the top valve seal will leak spraying water onto the top cover again leaking from the top.
    I fix the 1st problem by replacing the hose with a longer hose that fits further into the overflow tube not requiring any other device to keep it in place.
    The 2nd problem has 2 fixes...
    Either replace the valve...
    Or the faster cheaper way is to cap it with a small plastic container like an old spray paint cap that you cut a gap in the side for the float arm to move. I have had this problem enough times that I just cap it when I install a new valve.

    I woke up in the middle of the night to hear my upstairs toilet leaking. Water was coming through the walls all the way down to the basement! So I shut off the water to the upstairs and I'm nervous to troubleshoot this.... But,,, Gonna try. Wonder what might cause a toilet to suddenly spring a leak overnight like that! Toilet isn't used much, so I'm guessing a dried out gasket or water line. Sheesh.

To start with I am on lake water and have sediment filters both in the lake and before the tank. The flush tank has some dirt on the styrofoam sides but there is nothing to flush down that would cause the issue?

    Thanks for the video. It was very informative. HOWEVER, I have a leak problem that has me mystified. There was a drip coming from the right side underneath the tank, so I started taking water out of the tank and then shut off the water supply so it wouldn't keep filling. When the water got down to a certain level in the tank, the leak stopped. BUT, there is still an inch or so of water in the tank. If the leak was caused by a faulty gasket wouldn't it still be leaking? But it's not. Could there be a crack in the tank above where the water line is now? Doesn't make sense.

    Replaced my fill valve and discovered after installation that it just sprayed water out of the connection to the tank. On closer examination discovered a rubber washer or seal had fallen out of the mouth of the hose and had become stuck in the bottom of the old fill valve. I was able to take it out and inserted into the water fill hose. Then everything worked fine, without leakage. Might be a good idea to warn your viewers.

    Problem 5: 6:17 *I replaced that whole part there. And theres a tiny drip, like one drip every 2 minutes. Im thiniing that part that screws and touches the bottom, i think maybe i tightened it cockeyes maybe. But i dont know if im tripping. But whats the way to fix that? Should I tighten it more? But im afraid if i tighten to much it break. But then i want to wait like an hour and maybe im assuming that rubber inside needs to swell. But maybe that fix. I just hate that i heard no one say if its a issue if u tighten rhat part cockeyed if that could be the problem. But i dont know if im just being paranoid. But is tightening more cool. Or should i drain everything and then loosin and try to retighten to be not cockeyed.

I have a plumber coming to check an issue out but every time I flush the toilet, there is water dripping from the concrete slab below near the vertical sewer pipe protruding as we live on the first elevator floor as parking garage is underneath our floor. • @FixThisHouse
      @FixThisHouse  Před rokem +2

      That might be the case. Sometimes there is a small gap space from the wax ring to where your floor starts and when your flush the gasket will leak and flow to the sides straight to the subfloor. I definitely think it could be the wax ring 🙏🏽

    Problem #11 is the large plastic nut on the supply line that connects to the fill valve. I have seen them crack over time due to chlorine in the water. I have been looking for similar braided steel flex line with a METAL nut that connects to the fill valve. No luck.

      From what I have read, stainless steel metal eventually rusts, maybe around the 5 to 8 year time frame. Many say they have no doubt it will eventually rust and then possibly fail, while plastic lasts closer to a lifetime, at least twenty years or more.

    My toilet is much different. There is a tube from the tank to the bowl with a rubber seal that is split
    it spews water on the floor when you flush
    Really struggling to find an at home fix but I may have to call the plumber again, its the second time this has happened in a year. The first time it was old and worn, but I think this time its a faulty rubber seal... or a faulty plumber 🙄

    Does anyone know about how much a new toilet installed would cost? A guy from rotor rooter came and was saying it is $400.00 to unscrew the toilet and look to see what the problem is and then put it back. Sorry but that just sounds like bull to me.
