    2:36 the explanation of the logic behind an exercise is the best part of this video. This allows people to properly understand the form and therefore how to tailor the exercise to their physical abilities! Thank you for the video!

  • @terrylantz2831
    @terrylantz2831 Před 4 lety +10

    Actually you're wrong coach, leg raises, flutter kicks, and scissors should not be done with your head and shoulders on the ground. Simple fix to taking out the arch in the back is to do the exercise properly by keeping your head and shoulders off the ground which then engages your ab muscles and pushes your back flat against the ground.

    Thank you! I've been doing them wrong and my back was starting to kill me. It just felt wrong and I simply couldn't keep my back flat and lower my legs at the same time and I didn't know why. This really has helped. Great Video

    • @CoachPJNestler
      @CoachPJNestler  Před 6 lety +24

      Many people have the same problem! You must have incredible abdominal strength, endurance, and control to keep your back flat in this exercise. Try bending your knees or keeping your legs higher up so your back stays flat. That will reduce the load slightly and help keep your hips and spine in a better position

      Coach PJ Nestler Thank You. It is a little easier to do them now. I raise the legs to low didn't keep them high enough. Couldn't do at lease 2 two now I could do like twelve thank You very much.

    Great video, crazy how a simple position change of the legs can make that big of a difference on an exercise like this. It makes sense though but some people always think more is better. Or with this exercise, the lower the legs the better when that's not the case at all. Everybody is different, so we're all going to have different leg heights where we can maintain a flat back during this exercise. Good stuff Coach.

    Ugh....the army uses (or used, I've been out for about 10 years) flutter kicks, like a lot... in addition to regular physical training, it's also used as corrective training. At first you just see what everyone else is doing which was what you describe as the wrong way of doing it (and they tell you to tuck your hands behind your lower back to help support your back, so if you have back pains its because you arent supporting it properly with your hands) and quickly realize this is brutal on your back. I however after very quickly realizing the lower back pain corrected myself to the way you suggest, thinking I was actually "cheating" because it allowed me to do so many more reps after others would have to stop and rest bc of back pain. Ugh, no wonder they have soo many injuries....doing these (incorrectly) everyday for any amount of time can take a toll (especially 20+ years). Having qualified people like you to come and teach people proper form for all exercises would save soo much time and money spent on unnecessary injuries. Shameful.

    • @edgetransit3320
      @edgetransit3320 Před 5 lety +7

      Most people i know from army or navy, they don't really learn the proper form. It's a shame but ya. And they end up injured eventually. It's silly pushing people to exercise improperly.

    • @nevinkinzel
      @nevinkinzel Před 2 lety +1

      If you do the Army version properly, you will be in more of a "hollow body" position, not flat and not arched in the lower back. With your hands under your buttocks, not your back, and your shoulder blades off the floor- kind of feels like an ab crunch, there should be no stress on your back. This provides a workout for your abs and hip flexors. When Soldiers get tired they put their shoulders down to relax their abs which arches and hurts their back.

    • @mike30680
      @mike30680 Před 2 lety +1

      Shoulders should be off the floor and it eliminates the gap. Pulse you need a hose flowing at you. At least that’s what they said was right…. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @jennifiercools9866
      @jennifiercools9866 Před 2 lety +1
