  • Millions of seniors will now get a slight boost in their monthly social security checks but some believe the announcement made on Thursday by the Social Security Administration doesn't go far enough to help with inflation. FOX's Chelsea Torres has more on the story.

People are supposed to make arrangements to have another source of income in addition to social security so they have enough to live, but I guess the majority of people can't do that for some reason.

To get the average or above you would need to have worked a full 35 years full-time at a reasonable-paying job, although it could still be a job that paid below the median salary, so it doesn't need to be a particularly high-paying job. Of course, if you were working only minimum-wage jobs that might be a different story.

The information cited in the tweet was published by the Americans for Legal Immigration PAC. It relies on an Aug. 21 Tucker Carlson interview with retired Army Col. Douglas Macgregor. About half way through the segment discussing the Russia-Ukraine war, Macgregor said that “every alleged asylum seeker, illegal migrant pouring in through the border in Texas or wherever else” is given a monthly payment of $2,200.
But those who are in the U.S. illegally are not eligible for such benefits, with rare exceptions, immigration experts said. Certain groups, such as refugees and people granted asylum, do receive cash assistance from the federal government, though at much lower levels than those being claimed online.
“Generally, unauthorized immigrants have very little access to federally-funded public benefits,” Julia Gelatt, associate director of the U.S. immigration policy program at the Migration Policy Institute, told the AP in an email. “They can mostly only access emergency, in-kind things like shelter and food during a hurricane or other emergency, or emergency healthcare.”
Asked for further evidence of the group’s claim, ALIPAC President William Gheen acknowledged that “by law illegals are not supposed to receive payments from the federal government.”
don't make a fool out of yourself claiming that you know when you don't

With our two SS checks, and we are below average at about $1,400 each. We live a very good life, deprive ourselves of nothing, and put money away every month. The key is that I do all the repairs on the home. We also drive 23 year old cars that I repair. We shop on Amazon and get deliveries from Safeway which cuts way down on driving expenses. We go out to eat, but not for entertainment. We are very happy with our life.

We work sooo hard to retire after working and paying into it each paycheck for years and we get not enough to live on. When we get a few bucks more, they just cut off the food stamps we need to eat on

windfall provision allowed them to take 28% of my benefit because my last 3 years were outside the system because my state job stopped paying both retirement and ss. even by quarters, it was far higher. An excuse people in the office or working for the us government are not covered by it nor us military. Teachers and nurses, county and state are all covered if they have 2 pensions. They lose a huge part because they have 2 pensions, not because they own stock or a million-dollar house! just because they worked and earned two pensions. The raises never include total inflation from gasoline to healthcare. They give you a pension then try to limit what they pay you. It is a crime only against part of the workforce, not the military or us government employees, and is criminal!

The figures come from the Social Security Administration. Where did you think they would come from? I don't know what your situation is, but the people getting the average or above would be people who are receiving regular social security retirement benefits and worked steadily at least 35 years at a reasonably paying job, although not necessarily a job that's at the median salary.
