    Dan , Love ya man , have been a D&DH subscriber for 15 years or more , but , when you shake up a gallon jug of what ever, shake it up and down to activate the settling on the bottom , not sideways . Better yet , turn the jug upside down , then shake vigorously .

    Minerals do play somewhat of a roll in rack growth but it mostly is in the genetics.

      genetics are important but like in my area that there are next to zero mineral sites plays a huge roll. cant know size potencel if they never get enough minerals. are chance to get older.

    Here's a tip for your mineral site: When making your site, after taking the leaves back, make a bowl shape hole in the middle of the site. That way your minerals leach into the soil deeper........

    Love y'all's videos, but qdma has done a study about minerals, and they don't make a bit of difference. The deer are mainly attracted to the salt in the minerals because of the high water content in their food during the spring and summer.

    You can do the same thing with two 50 lbs bags of general purpose mineral and one 50 lbs bag of salt, mix them together, and pour onto your chosen mineral site. It's cheaper too. I can buy 50 lbs bags of mineral and salt at my local co-op for $6 or $7 a bag.

      I do a similar mix with great results. 1 part dicalcium phosphate and 2 parts trace mineral salt. Works like a charm (and cheap) !

      Best thing i have found is a combination of trophy rock and 465 the crushed up version. They dominate it, they eat the dirt around it. Also if has so many minerals beyond salt that they seek it out more.

      Josh Woodley Yes, the deer don't know what brand of food you are using so I just use corn attractant from my feeder because when the feeder goes off it's like a dinner bell.

    My state outlaws salt licks or blocks entirely. I was looking at bags of minerals for cattle, little if any salt, I am thinking that MIGHT be a legal option. Don't ask, don't tell I say.

      I tried a trophy rock and put it out in march in several spots miles away from each other..the deer where i hunt didnt care for them. Not sure why. The deer where we hunt only perfer certain mineral blocks as well. Reasons not sure of.. I mix one gallon of corn , a half gallon of oats , and a half gallon or acorn rage or apple pellets.. The deer go nuts over this mixture.

      Brad Quall that’s pretty wild, the deer in my area love the trophy rock. I just put it on a big stump about 2ft in height and corn all around the area and they wore the rock out quick

    Just because they eat doesn't mean its doing anything. The 50 lb bags of trace mineral and salt from the co-op aren't the answer either if you want to see real world results. Learn to read a label and find a product built for deer. Mineral supplements do work, but you have to use the right stuff. None listed in this video will do anything but be an attractant.

    • @ashtanga2000
      @ashtanga2000 Před 8 lety +1

      So, what works? What's "built" for deer? Pay more for same minerals with a picture of a deer on it?

    • @nateclark3169
      @nateclark3169 Před 8 lety

      +AshtangaBoy I use RAKS Mineral. It's specifically designed for deer. Deer antlers are made up mostly of Protein, calcium, and phosphorus. The protein will be acquired by browse, food plots, supplemental feed, ect. But most parts of the country are lacking in phosphorus in the soil. If it's not in the soil then it's not making it into the plants and onto the deer. This is where quality minerals can really help. There's not a product out there that has the level of calcium/phosphorus that RAKS has, and in the optimum 2:1 ratio. Also, RAKS has the micro minerals to make sure that the big ones do their job. Not many products do this. Google RAKS Mineral and check out the website.
