  • In this video, I show you the steps I take to clean out the coolant reservoir on my 2003 Ford F-150, but these steps will work on any vehicle. The coolant reservoir holds excess coolant and acts as an expansion tank for your cooling system. When they are clean, it is easy to see the condition and level of your coolant. Clean the coolant reservoir any time you flush and refill your system.

I just did this without pebbles, will recommend. The major fix I found is that it takes the stain away off the inside of the tank so you can actually see the coolant. If it doesn’t come off from this, I’m sure it won’t come off from usage.

Sulfamic acid is what you use. That will turn it white and back to brand new

At first I was going to say that a replacement one would be a lot less effort than cleaning as I have just replaced sooo many used vehicle expansion tanks for this exact reason. I sell used cars and people see a stained expansion tank and assume the car is on its last legs with a blown head gasket even though the coolant inside is sparkling clean and the car runs great.

I just bought a 2003 Chevrolet Impala LS and it was getting hot after I fille the coolant reservoir and I figured ok it’s leaking coolant etc because I did have to bypass the heater core however after draining and refilling the radiator and placing green coolant that turned fk brown but I notice the reservoir coolant level wasn’t dripping so I took it off and realized the hose that goes from the tank to the radiator was plugged like a mfkrr with the brown bullshit substance
