It really did look painful. Even my dad who is a doctor (I’ve been showing him that ballet very much IS a kind of sport, or can be) said that could have fractured a rib or two, depending on the flooring and the exact angle of how she landed. She didn’t have much time for reaction to slow her momentum before her torso smacked the ground. Having it distributed is better than at one point, but still. She must have been winded at the very least. She held on to her mask like a champ though.

Accidents are just part of live theatre, I've come to realise. I just finished out a production of Romeo and Juliet as Benvolio and during the first fight scene between Tybalt and myself, my sword cracked clean in half (they were wooden and painted since some of the performers were very new to stage fighting). So we threw them down and started fighting with our fists instead, just whispering to each other before the next move came. I was in a colorguard in high school. I was the rifle captain and standing at the front of a v formation in the show. It had been a rough year for me. I had lost my dad suddenly to cancer and was exhausted.
We had slight variations of our show based on if it was being done inside, outside or in a parade formation. Well at one point I zoned out and started doing the entire wrong version of the show. Without missing a beat, the rest of the rifle line switched to the version I was doing until the next break in the music when our formation moved again and I realized what I did. No one in the audience even notice. The only time we were out of sync was when I did a double toss the others didn’t. And since I was at the front the audience just thought it was a spotlight moment. Your team members always have your back.

I just watched another Bolshoi Nutcracker and looks like you're right! The ballerina left the stage right in the moment when the choreography had the two dancers doing parts that do not require partnering so Tsiskaridze continued on with his own part. The ballerina was quick to return right when the choreography required partnering again! But it must have been a very anxious moment for the two dancer as Tsiskaridze realized he had to carry out his part on his own :)

I think it probably really helps to be able to put yourself in the mindset of an actor, because at the heart you're just playing a character in a story, so when you make a mistake you can view it as breaking character and recover better than if you viewed it as *oh god everyone just saw me mess up* because you're just the body of a character for the story you're telling, it adds a sort of security blanket

Although I know nothing about ballet. I still think it’s a precious dancing style.
Ballet gives me such nostalgia, especially the music they use. Unsure how it does but besides that, ballet is absolutely amazing. It’s fantastic how they do it and I bet it can be hard as a ballet dancer.
    Probs to that! Really!

1:53 I felt that in my soul. It rattled my bones. PTSD flashbacks to the one and only time I fell like that and I’m just thankful it was in a rehearsal. 😂
That being said, I fell on stage a few years ago during an incredibly fast and high energy tap dance but not during the difficult steps. No. The music slowed down for a minute and we had two slow, sexy walks and I rolled my ankle and fell on my face. Walking.

This reminds me of something I learned that gave me insight into the brilliance of Nijinsky's choreography for the "Rite of Spring" (which you can see reconstructed in a few videos on CZcams). Throughout the ballet he has dancers throw themselves to the ground, and in the sacrificial dance he has the Chosen One hobble about as if with a broken leg, touching on a ballet dancer's worst nightmares. And of course, the Chosen One gets chosen for death because she stumbles in a dance. (I was horrified the first time I saw the reconstructed ballet and learned that she is chose by the other girls!!)

Hi Olivia, same!!! I love Tsiskaridze's dancing so much, it's so musical. And he has such a funny sarcastic personality from what I can tell from his Vaganova teaching videos, he must be one hell of an wonderful teacher.
I've made this correction somewhere in the comments but the clip of him, I realized later, wasn't a mistake as he just kept on going and improvising as his partner went backstage to fix her shoe but I bet the whole waiting for her to come back experience must have been nerve-wracking for him as he realized he had to keep going! Such a professional dancer!

Angela Chen I know how that feels! I am in a play right now and while I was on stage my Dad (in the play) just ran off. He left me and my brother on stage alone for a bit. He told us afterwards that he forgot his phone (which rings later in the scene)
But I have never been left to improve in a ballet performance
